How does Dylan Hartley qualify for England?
First topic message reminder :
I've heard loads of different versions. some say he came over at 14, some at 16 and some at 18. I've heard that he has an english grandparent and others have said he has an English parent.
Could someone please give a definitive answer with (and this is the key point) some form of reference as proof.
Either that or can we find out how many versions have been written in the papers.
Cheers

CAn you ask him if he wanted to be an All Black or play for England when he was 16, and when he changed his mind?Hobo wrote:Just had a tweet from Dylan Hartley himself to clarify! What a top guy!at 16 unofficial school exchange, stayed with relatives in crow. attended and played for beacon alongside crow rfc. mother is fully english
Hopefully that clears it up for you all.
Thanks to Dylan for taking the time.

He's openly said he wanted to be an All Black as a kid.Why wouldn't he? I imagine most people brought up in New Zealand and are into rugby would want to play for them.
He's come over here and is qualified. I'm more than happy to have him represent me if he wants to.

Probably the 24,000 mile round trip to make training I'd guess. Not so bad on match days but a bummer in the week. Oh, and growing up in England, having an English passport, having family roots in England, being surrounded by English mates and learning his rugby in England probably had something to do with it. Dunno. Pretty early on I'd guess, wouldn't you?

To be fair Id like to play for the All Blacks but Id have to move there for a few years and get really good at rugby.

Maybe you could ask him, maesteg. Then you could ask him to prove that his mother is English. Face to face. I'll hold your coat.maestegmafia wrote:CAn you ask him if he wanted to be an All Black or play for England when he was 16, and when he changed his mind?

Surely it is obvious to everyone that Hartley qualifies for England based on the confidence (some may almost say arrogance) quota that every english player is required to have................. I'll get my coat :run2:
