TDF Teams
Anyone know when the teams should be announced? Really interested to see how teams are balanced between roleurs, climing domestiques and sprint trains. Can't wait.

Re: TDF Teams
Not all are announced yet, but you can see the latest lists on www.cyclingstartlists.com.
About half are definitive, and a few more with lists of 10 to pick 9 and stuff.

Re: TDF Teams
Should be a fun race for once - Crazy Amets, Crazy Johnny and Tommy Voekler in (or out of) the same peloton.
A few updates needed to those lists - Garmin Cervelo have named Danielson in their team, and sadly Soler will not be there.
One interesting feature - 8 named for Saxo, with no Contador yet listed. Presumably he will be the missing one, but perhaps there's still stuff going on behind the scenes?

Don't raise your hopes-he'll start and rip the field to shreds.
We're into another Anquetil/Poulidor, Armstrong/Ullrich era.
Poor old Andy.

Shame Ricco isn't riding for you Azabache. He must be your absolute favourite rider of all time.

Re: TDF Teams
You missed crazy dave with his late escapes. Possibly the best weapon for UK cycling, get him up the road let everbody else chase him and then launch a Dowsett, Thomas, Blyth, Swift, Cavendish train. If we can get enough points for a full squad at the worlds I can see us at least providing some spectacle.
I digress though. Thanks for the link, will be keeping a daily eye on that.

Re: TDF Teams
Hill sprint finish = Cav might as well not turn up.
Unless he's willing to ride as a teammate.

DJ(WhoLovesYou?):
Thanks! Actually, my favourite rider is Richard Virenque but I'll let someone else start a new thread if they like.

OK dj, hadn't seen the profile. So a Kennaugh or Blythe end to the train?

Re: TDF Teams
It's a finish for the likes of Freire, Thor, Boonen perhaps, Sagan, Haussler, etc.
Our team looks nice on paper, but it's not even close to being strong compared to what other teams can put out.
Young lads like Kennaugh and Blythe would be very lucky to make it to the finish in the front group. WC RR is just too fast and too long.
Virenque figures. You like the guys who were in big doping scandals.

Re: TDF Teams
dj,
I don't think the profile looks that bad, it is short inclines repeated throughout the circuit. Our team isn't incredibly strong, but if it does come to a bunch sprint we do at least have good IP riders followed by a few 2nd tier sprinters. Surely if we can get others to do the chasing early on then that gives us half a chance, especially as we would not really be considered as a major threat.
On the other hand a rider like Thomas could get in a break and do OK from it.

Having looked at the lists I cant help but think that Rabobank may spring a few surprises this tour.

Re: TDF Teams
They have got a strong climbing team for Gesink. LLL will probably try to win some stages.
