Nice round these parts....
First topic message reminder :
Aye, seems like this is the best idea to replace BBC 606 - i'll certainly be encouraging fellow 606 Golfers to join.
How about if you have joined just post here to (re-)introduce youself so everyone can see who's moved over... i'll be probably swinging both ways until the lights are turned off over there...

Re: Nice round these parts....
This thread has about 750 views, I wonder how we could turn those views into users? The golf board would be buzzing, maybe even more so than 606. Can anyone think of a way to advertise this forum after 606 goes?

Re: Nice round these parts....
we have asked the BBC to consider making this a site they refer to (although I dont think they will).
I have another idea which I am just about to start a thread about - wait 5 minutes!

Re: Nice round these parts....
Not606 has been around for quite a while.
It has a load of members and more importantly a huge amount of WUMS. They are over run and havent got the moderation right at all.
The majority of football users have signed up.
Other things that they have done is allow avatars and signatures which is something we are against (due to discretion for people at work and also it helps with firewalls not to have them).
We are nearly at 200 members in 4 days now - we have grown very quickly but have also kept the 606 vibe about the place and are going to moderating in the right way.
The other thing I have noticed about not606 is that they have started to copy some of the things we are doing (like the swearing filter) - they are running scared already!
I am glad you are still on board here - we shall grow and stay true to what makes a great forum.

Agree with Hobo.
On not606 most of the people who left got a stiffy over being able to swear! I find the site very cluttered and messy.
Great to see everyone here!
Golf forum is booming! :bball:

Someone on the "old" 606 has just posted about a site called new-606. This could get a bit messy!

I saw that, but from what i gathered all they did was create a forum script that look like 606, nobody was running it.

Hi Folks,
Been lurking around the old 606 board trying to pick up snippets of golfing genius for a while now.
Taken the plunge and come out of the closet at last
Looking forward to participating.
Thanks to the 606v2 guys for making this possible.

I'm in as well - pretty seamless transition to this site & plenty of posts/comments already, what's the point of using the old one anymore?!

Ever played down in Barrow? I grew up about 400 yards from Furness Golf Club on Walney Island. Played there as a junior for a couple of years (many MANY years ago)

Re: Nice round these parts....
I love Silloth, apart from being a great course it may well be the best value golf you can buy. The weekday fee for a day ticket is only £52. Can I just say silloth is not all about the value, if you charged double the price it would still be an outstanding days golf.
stymie, do you ever play the best 9 hole course in the land (supposedly) Royal Worlington?

Not actually in Barrow itself or at Furness, have played Ulverston and Grange-over-Sands nearby.

Re: Nice round these parts....
Sorry I have a complaint
My email box is full of emails, from this site, I do not want to be emailed when some else comments on a topic I have commented on, could this be switched off, but if someone wants they can switch it on, instead of being on automatically.
Thanks

Re: Nice round these parts....
OPW - I think the admins were looking to see if this default action can be changed. They may even have changed it now since you registered - I don't know.
However you can fix it by clicking "profile" from the top of the page, then click the "preferences" tab. There are a few setting there to do with emails; whether you get notified of replies, private messages etc.
Select which ones you want to keep and which ones you want to switch off and save your changes. The most relevant one is likely to be "Always notify me of replies".
Also, to undo the notification requests you already have, you can either click the "stop watching this thread" at the bottom of every thread you are getting notifications for - or from your profile page you can go to the "topics being watched" tab and delete the notifications from there.
Give me a shout if you still have problems

Re: Nice round these parts....
thanks Davie - that is indeed correct.
Unfortunately, we are all new to this and are still trying to iron out the kinks. Still havent sorted it yet but we are still looking.
As long as you change your preferences and opt out from the ones that were pre opt oout, you shouldnt have any probs.
Have a dancing chewie to cheer you up.. :chewie:

Welcome, have you not noticed most of us just post the first drivel that enters our head. So just go for it, jump into any discussion. You would have to go some way to make the dumbest comment in these parts. Especially with LJ around.

Have tried to get Kwini and Gael to join the migration but both seem strangely reluctant to leave the Beeb. Goodness knows why. I'll keep trying - especially Kwini as I'd miss his weekly articles.

You can always copy them over and then he/she (?) will see that they receive more comments on here than the beeb - just a suggestion!
