Back to T20 - Middx, Essex and Kent
First topic message reminder :
Stuart Meaker has replaced Jade Dernbach in the only change to the last T20 squad for the first 2 of these games, Middlesex tomorrow at home and Essex on Friday at Chelmsford. I am not sure how effective he will be in the format for us but it is excellent to hear he is fit again, how we could have done with him against Gloucestershire. I would imagine the team will be the same except Meaker for Dernbach, although I would be tempted to play Schofield instead of Wilson as he is a better batsman at the moment! I still think we need an extra batsmen though, surely Harinath would be better than Wilson at 6, I know it's not his ideal format but he might surprise people!
I think we need to win 2 out of these 3 matches to keep up our push for the quarter finals.

Absolutely unforgiveable to bowl a no-ball. Arafat makes it very hard to like him doesn't he?

If we just bowl full this should be easy we can afford to give away a boundry or two. But no we keep giving No balls and full tosses away.

18th over from Hyphen only costs 4 runs.
''You talk about a captain's innings. Well, that was a captain's over.'' - Churchy. Excellent over, excellent comment.

Hyphen for MotM? 4 brilliant overs and a very decent 30 odd. Maynard could be a shout for his 50 and excellent last over in our innings but I think RHB deserves it. Really came to the party today, excellent stuff!

Good win we needed those points
I agree with Carrot that we needed two wins from these three games and to win the first one is a good start.
I'm hoping for the other win to be at Beckenham on Sunday though can we dream of three wins??

Re: Back to T20 - Middx, Essex and Kent
Just got back after briefly popping out, good win for the "'rey".
Strange batting from the Middle, with only three wickets down you would have thought they would have gone for it.
Nevertheless, an adequate batting and bowling performance, without ever really looking convincing.
Wine Gums, RHB, Batty and Arafat [Nannes] can all be pleased with their days work.

Re: Back to T20 - Middx, Essex and Kent
Churchy gives his unofficial Man of the Match to Hyphen. I think that's a good call - his bowling in the 18th over was crucial and pulled things back after the rubbish from Arafat the over before.
If I was a Middlesex supporter, I wouldn't be happy. To lose by 20 runs but only lose 3 wickets seems odd - would have expected more of a do or die approach from the half way stage.
Anyway, well done boys! Off now for some more unpaid taxi driving - know the feeling, Corporal?

I quite fancy our top 3 at Chelmsford, it is a small ground but we will need more than 160 I would have thought so someone will need to go on a bit longer. Still waiting for our team to 'fire' with the bat!

Sorry I just realised I wrote Arafat, instead of Nannes of those who can be proud of their performance.

Re: Back to T20 - Middx, Essex and Kent
Well done the lads - or most of them! The Hyphen's bowling figures put a new light on team selection for the competition.
I guess bowlers' figures will be all over the place in this competition - sometimes they get hammered, other times not.....
I went AWOL earlier on - was convinced we were going to lose, so went on patrol....
Fairly unusual for a side to fall short of this kind of total having only lost 3 wickets...was there something odd about the pitch?

[quote="depressedsurreyfan"]Hope so Guildford, I was very happy with that decision. We beeter keep football talk to the minimun as Corporal will be reminded of the Hammers season last year!
Depressed - don't mind me. I'm immune to West Ham's tribulations! With their resources Surrey should do well. If West Ham ever win two games in a row that is a bonus....

The group has been thrown wide open this evening with Sussex and Hampshire both losing. 3 points seperate the top 7 teams with only Middlesex and Gloucestershire out of touch.

Very poor from Sussex tonight (unless the Glam bowling was exceptionally good) Threw away a won position.... Also, odd that Middlesex doing quite so badly in this competition considering some of their other performances...

Re: Back to T20 - Middx, Essex and Kent
JimBob - regarding the most important question of the night as you say, the mascot race.
From what I could make out, the mascot race was decided on a team basis. When Churchy came back on air after the mid innings break, he said that North London had beaten South London. I'm sure you'll be about that!
Corporal - I thought you were driving the military jeep up to the Midlands and back. If that took 650 miles, your map man needs a spell in the glass house! More seriously, I'm glad it was worthwhile and, I hope, appreciated ....

Re: Back to T20 - Middx, Essex and Kent
Guys, not around tonight so brief thoughts now.
Believe Wilson won't play tonight. As well as his form, he apparently picked up an injury fielding last night. I would replace him with the player who cannot be named although Adams might prefer Spriegel. Can't see Viscount forcing his way back in yet.
Hopefully, Goochie will join you between 8:00 and 8:30 -ie when Corrie isn't on!

After last night I am a bit worried about Southee for Essex, bowl length to him and it will disappear, although our bowlers are a lot quicker than hampshires. It doesnt really matter who plays at 6 as they cant do much worse!

You've got to hand it to Churchy for devotion to duty. He records a match report on the Surrey website even when match is abandoned without a ball being bowled....

Re: Back to T20 - Middx, Essex and Kent
Zafar the gaffer has been released by Adams from the squad for today's t20 game against Kent so he can play for Cambridge University in the annual varsity match.
I find that decision slightly surprising. Despite the history of the varsity match and it being a lovely occasion, I would have expected Adams to insist on playing his best side which would currently include Zafar. After all, Zafar was named in the starting XI for Friday's match which was rained off before a ball could be bowled. Hard to see how he could have lost his place on form in the meantime.
I assume Spriegel or he who shall not be named will come in. I would go for the latter due to his biffing prowess but am not sure Adams will do that. Very hard to see the unlucky Viscount getting a game today.
As usual, Wilson remains in the squad and almost certainly the team. Meanwhile, Harinath and Lancefield both play for the Academy side against Cheam - hmmm ....

Re: Back to T20 - Middx, Essex and Kent
Well my Surrey shirt is on the sun is shining and I'm about to wander up to the tram stop to proceed to Beckenham.
Guildford.. like you I find it strange that Wilson is still in I will once again state that Lancefield is a young batsman who averaged over 20 in T20 last season use to play rugby and has the kind of popeye arms needed to clear the ropes. I also still believe we are playing a batsman short even with Wilson in the team.
Batty, Arafat, Nannes, Meaker then our fifth bowler can be Hamilton-Brown/De Bruyn This means we can drop Wilson and Ansari for two out and out batsman.
On the second point Guildford if he who shall not be named plays.... well all I'm saying is he better produced because depressed in the sun with alcohol does not make a pretty sight!!!!

Ah yes, Rommel..... :run2: :run2:
Charitably, I am happy to see Ansari play in the Cambs/Oxford match if it helps to boost his confidence; especially as he has top scored....
