What game has left you feeling the most elated for another team? :)
In response to yesterdays article on the most hearbreaking match (https://www.606v2.com/t7745-most-heartbreaking-match) I thought I'd post one regarding the polar opposite. So what is the match that's left you feel the best that didn't include your team playing in it?
For me it would be Italy against France in this years six nations. The line for the Italian try was very tasty and the amount of drama was enormous. Much more importantly was the level of passion shown by the Italians during and after the match. Made me feel great.
Also Australia beating New Zealand in last years tri-nations when James O'Connor scored the game leveling try in extra time then managed to convert it for the win.
A lot of the Argentinian games in the RWC 07 made me feel the same and they were in our group!
So, what games have left you feeling great for another team?
Happy Thursday.

Has to be Italy France recently - the emotion form the players and coaches afterwards said it all. Also enjoy any Japan win as they tend to go crazy.

Good question! I have to say I enjoyed Leinster's H-cup comeback hugely this year (despite the fact that before the game I wasn't really bothered who won). It was impossible not to get swept up in the manner and the style of the comeback.
Also really enjoyed Scotland beating Ireland in the 6N a couple of years back.

I'm not sure if I can class Munster and Leinster as "other teams", as I support all the provinces but Munster and Leinster's HEC victories certainly left me elated. Munsters magners final victory too and Leinsters awesome victory over toulouse this year and also in 2006 stand out too.
The miracle matches for Munster against Gloucester and Sale were incredible.
For non Irish sides England WC victory in 2003 too and Englands QF victory over the Australia in 1995 WC was one of my earliest standout Rugby memories.
Italy beating France this year was amazing to watch and I was certainly elated for Parisse.

I'll admit that it still has Scottish connotations, but I'll always have a place in my heart for Scott Gibbs when he crashed through the English defence at Wembley in 1999 to secure the 5 Nations title for Scotland. Hero.

A no brainer for me. It has to be Leinster winning this years Heino Cup. To be in that stadium amongst the Leinster fans was amazing.

Just being a slight pedant but Australia didn't beat NZ in the Tri-Nations. It was the exhibition game in Hong Kong.

Yeah MBT that was the one. Sickeningly good game.
SA beating ENG in their pool game in the RWC 07 was good too.
Also have to say i love it when Ulster and Connacht win against nearly anyone.

Although they didn't win I was very happy for Georgia in their display against Ireland in 2007. I was there in the stadium and being happy for Georgia was a better option than being sad for Ireland.
Re: What game has left you feeling the most elated for another team? :)
I was delighted when Argentina beat France in the WC. But to be fair that’s only because it lead me to believe we could top the group. Still, I was chuffed to see them go so far in the end. Australia beating NZ in Hong Kong was great too.

Georgia v Ireland in 07.
Never before have I been screaming for another team, willing them on to score. Those last few minutes pounding the Irish line.....exhillirating to say the least. Nothing against Ireland, just love seeing an underdog come good (which in this case they fell short!), and I support Ireland on most occasions anyway...
Either that or the opening fixture from 07 when Argentina came of age....magnifique!

The pure emotion during the Italy France game this year was incredible. I've never seen people so happy about a victory that didn't win them a cup, a semi-final or wasn't played in Croke Park.

I was pretty Elated to see England get thumped by Ireland in the 6N just passed.
My Elation was not for Ireland thoough.....more the comedic value of seeing John Inverdull and Jezza Guscott's faces after the match......and then that Grand Slam video was leaked on you tube.
Priceless

I was really excited by Ulster Heineken Cup final win - it was just so unbelievable that an Irish team could win anything.
Leinster's win against Toulouse in 2006 was fairly exciting as well. Will never forget Denis Hickie's try.
More recently, Leinster's comeback against Northampton was fairly unforgettable as well.
As a Munster fan - the win over Toulouse down in Toulouse (2000) was very, very special.

England winning the 2003 World Cup against Australia I think all of Wales was willing them to win, even though we knew they'd rub our noses in it, but we were all very happy for them.
There was huge cheer and celebration in the pub when Johnny hit that last kick over, which would probably amaze most English fans.
I was delighted to see Ireland beat Wales to win their Grand Slam in Cardiff a few years back. Tt was only their second Grand slam in their entire history and to be fair the Irish were great in 2005, when we won our first one against them. So it was nice in a way to pay back the celebration they shared with us. Of course for Ireland to win Wales lost the triple crown but I think to be fair to Ireland it had to be their year.
In 2005 the Irish helped the Welsh paint Cardiff red, in 2007 the Welsh helped the Irish paint Cardiff green.

For me, it would be games like;
- Munster finally winning the HC for the first time, after being so close for so long, I don't anyone wasn't delighted for them.
- Fiji against Wales in the 07 RWC

France beating the All Blacks in Cardiff 2007.
I was one of thousands of Irish fans there, hoping it would be us in the QF.
Cracking game and the French fans were fantastic.
The Kiwi's just kept blaming Wayne Barnes but they were beaten by a far hungrier team that night.

I was so happy for the French that day, firstly because I'm a major Francophile, and secondly because it was absurd that the hosts were having to play the quarter final away from home.

I watched Brackley beat Dunstable (I think) in their penultimate game of the season to avoid relegation this season. I was very happy for them as they have been a half decent club but now that rugby is not promoted in the school (a school which has previously produced age grade England players) they struggle to even get a second team out.

Well 2 classics this year alone:

In previous year Munsters comeback against Gloucester has to be right up there.

When Biarritz beat the ospreys in the HC. Bless!
When Llandovery beat Cardiff in swalec final. Need a try and conversion to win. Went from their own line and it was the last play of the game. A prop scored in the corner and the try was converted. I forgot the game was on. Been out all day and only watched 10 minutes on the dire S4C. That didn't stop me dancing around the living room like a maniac!

Munster winning the Heineken Cup in 2006. Oh man, were we happy about that!
There was a much longer wait between the first Irish provincial side winning in Europe and the second, than any other since then. I've enjoyed every one of those wins- most of all the first!- but the fact it had been such a long time since 1999 made the Munster win in 2006 very special and I was overjoyed with it.

Ireland's win over England this year left me feeling pretty elated. I was already in a good mood having been at Murrayfield seeing Scotland beat Italy. That match in itself was incredible as for one thing we scored two tries in a single game, at home, and even more incredible Nick De Luca got a 5 pointer...
Anyhow, after that as I headed back up north, I tuned into THAT match. And quite simply it sounded incredible, and it was made all the sweeter due to the fact that Mat Dawson was there to give his reaction to proceedings.

Re: What game has left you feeling the most elated for another team? :)
France v New Zealand in 07 - intense and immense defensive effort from the French (OK, so their try came from a rather dubious pass, but then most do if you watch in slow motion...)
South Africa beating New Zealand in the 95 RWC final. May not have been a classic match of flowing rugby, but for sheer intensity on both sides it was an epic, and with the added undertones of the political significance, Mandela wearingthe Bok jersey and all...

Was that elation that Ireland won or elation that England lost?
Re: What game has left you feeling the most elated for another team? :)
highlights of the year as a neutral were Leinster comeback in the HC final as well as Ireland performance against England in the 6N. Cant remember of a RWC final result I was particularly happy (specially the last 2 were really non events).

Very hard to decide. In the Internationals I like the raw emotion of underdogs winning. Really can't be beat. No question, this year's choice is Italy-France as most people said. Probably the biggest upset in the last few years anywhere. In the last RWC, I would include Argentina-Ireland (although I am not sure Argentina were real underdogs). In both matches players on the winning teams were beside themselves with elation. Add in the Fiji reaction to beating Wales. The RWC before I wish I could include Ireland over Australia, but they came just short in a ripping emotional match, which they were going to pull out right to the end.

The way I see things is I will support any side who's result will benefit Wales.
This year for instance I was supporting Ireland when they played England simply because a win for Ireland gave Wales a chance of going for the title.

The 2005 All Blacks v Lions match...in Wellington
I was in a sports bar in Budapest at 9am surrounded by a sea of red shirts - all tucking into bacon & eggs with pints of course. The place went off after that first Lion's try - which was converted.
About 73 minutes later, there were 2 middle aged AB supporters (husband & wife) who I bumped into on the way out - trying to play it cool and not attracting too much attention. The joint was silent by then...lots of empty glasses covering the tables.
All I could think of saying was something like: "Dan Carter played well, didn't he?"
"Dudn't he iver!" was the wife's reply
