Union Cane's Prediction League - 12th and Final Round
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Week Eleven Results
1. Vitali Klitschko v. Tomasz Adamek (12) | Vitali Klitschko TKO 10 (LKO) |
2. Yuriorkis Gamboa v. Daniel Ponce de Leon (12) | Yuriorkis Gamboa TD 8 (LKO) |
3. Paul McCloskey v. Breidis Prescott (12) | Paul McCloskey UD |
4. Juan Carlos Salgado v. Argenis Mendez (12) | Juan Carlos Salgado UD |
|
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Week Eleven Review
Tomasz Adamek is a two-weight world champion, and therefore clearly no mug, but he was no match for Vitali Klitschko. Simply too small to compete, Adamek did well to last as long as he did but was never going to beat the bigger man.
Paul McCloskey should change his name to McLucky, after a terrible start he somehow managed to turn things round (helped no doubt by the home crowd cheering every punch he threw, let alone landed) and get a controversial decision against Breidis Prescott.
Some very high scores this week, even without the McCall / Cooper result,
When will I learn not to use fights from these back-water third-world countries?
'Predictor of the Week' is a tricky one this week, with Mind the windows Tino., alma, licence_007 and Reborn-DeeMcK-Reborn all getting all four fights spot on and amassing 16 points each. As it's impossible to split them, this week's award goes to Michaels, Sean, who, despite all the points on offer, still only managed a paltry 3 points. Took some doing that, well done Sean.

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - 12th and Final Round
Perhaps we should have fights where we've actually heard of the fighters. Might get more people interested if they can actually go on their knowledge rather than going by what boxrec tells them.
Just a thought
For instance you can have:
Haye vs Wlad
Wonjongkam vs Kogawa
Hernan Marquez vs Dapudong
Afolabi vs Dunstan
Sexton vs Robinson
And leave it at 5 fights that everyone should know how to get right without having to google who the eff they are!

Good idea coxy, perhaps you should organise your own prediction league then you can run it how you want.

As Donald Rumsfeld said, "There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know."
Maybe by researching these unknown fighters, they become known unknowns, thereby broadening our knowledge of the sport we profess to love.
Or perhaps, coxy, you could only join in when Roy Jones is fighting.

Or maybe you should heed the obvious and realise the other one dwindled away because most of the fights were random 8 rounders with guys no-one had a scooby about.
Don't worry, i won't be taking part so you'll be saved from any further negative comments

Sorry mate I should have made a point of saying that there is no 'mid', I'm just doing early and late, so early is 1-6 for a 12 rounder, 1-5 for a ten and 1-4 for an 8 round fight.

This competition currently has two entrants, one of which is me, and also coxy's half-bothered attempt at being clever.

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - 12th and Final Round
Without wishing to incur your wrath, why don't you go to the 5 fight thing? I don't mind the idea of 10 as such, but I only really use this site at work and boxrec tends to be one of those sites where pop ups fly all over my screen and wreck my computer.

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - 12th and Final Round
Ok, in the style of Ken Clarke I will, with purpose and panache, perform an almighty u-turn, and go with the 5 fight thing.
I shall amend the top bit and I expect lots of new entrants.
As Ghandi said, "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - 12th and Final Round
Union get it down to five fights and I'll enter, don't tend to enter because I don't follow the modern game as closely as a lot of guys on here but if it's five fights with guys I've halfa chance of having heard of I'll join in. Have a fear if this doesn't take off you will use your time creating more reverse linear threads, can't take the chance.
