In no way is this the "best promo ever".
Hi,
First time poster, but longtime reader and wrestling fan.
I just wanted to get this off my chest. I love CM Punk, he is a top wrestler and might possibly be the ‘best in the world’ if he had been used correctly.
His promo was exciting, the content was edgy, the ending was totally unexpected and shocking, but no way was this the “best promo ever”.
Austin 3:16, many of Mick Foley’s in ECW, The Rock in Toronto for me are all far better promos. Hell, I even preferred the Cena promo that he ripped the Rock when they faced off in the ring (although that is just my preference, I don't expect everyone to agree).
The amount of sea men that has been shot over this promo is really ridiculous. It was highly entertaining, but all that it contained was CM Punk complaining. It didn’t tell a story, it didn’t get a great live reaction and if it hadn’t been one big moan at the WWE catering to the “smarks” (which BTW I hate that term – because you use the internet and read up on wrestling gossip sites does not make you clever or anymore informed) you wouldn’t be so excited. TNA do ‘shoot’ promos now and then, but because it’s not saying what you want to hear you don’t cream yourself.
VKM has catered to the people who use internet forums to encourage you to buy a PPV that last week had no one doubting Cena would walk away with the belt. Now there is a buzz, there is now a possibility that CM Punk may stay beyond his contract and we don’t know who will be the champ come Sunday night. You will buy the PPV based on that promo, but it does not make it the best ever by any stretch.
Peace out homies.

Austins success in the WWF can be traced back to his Austin 3:16 promo, time will tell if Punk's career will take off after this, baring in mind he has already been hugely successful within the WWE already, Punks promo for me could easily be talked about in the same manor in 15 years time as Austins is now, it depends what they do with him though, I disagree that the promo didn't tell a story, he is selling the fact the WWE are biased toward Cena, how he is under valued and unappreciated, he is selling the possibility that if he wins the title he'll leave and take it to another company, he certainly is selling the angle and story!

Hi,
I am also a first time poster and I would have to disagree with you to a certain extent. I am not a huge wrestling fan but more of a casual viewer who occasionally gets more into it so I can't compare the other promos you listed.
However after the CM Punk promo I genuinly feel the need to watch next week's Raw to see what happens. This is the first time in a long, long time that WWE have become must see TV for a casual fan like myself, so Punk must have done something right.
I saw the Rock promo which you talk about and that didnt captivate me as much as this one did.
Each to their own I guess but you did make a good argument

Fair play,good points raised.
I'm no punk mark by any stretch but if the superstars could be themselves more often,we could see stuff like this on a regular basis.
Punk sold it pretty good

I have to agree, because the content of the promo blurred the lines of the t.v show and real life in that way it was an epic and exciting thing and has me intrigued for the first time in a while.
But because of the content that's the only reason why it has and to see where Punk's character is going they have done really well making Punk seem like a loose cannon.
We all know what the out come will be, with Cena keeping the title. It's all about how they get there.
