Think Hussey will start instead of Smith.
Haddin will keep (for now). Paine might be a future leader but will be waiting a little while.
Hauritz ought to play but seems to be out of favour...who knows?
Hazelwood starts with an "h" so is a fair chance Smile In truth there are a few quicks lined up and I suspect that 11th spot could change around a bit through the summer.

In fact there could be a few changes this year ...interesting times for Australia.

1. Phillip Hughes
2. Usman Khawaja
3. Ricky Ponting
4. Shane Watson
5. Michael Clarke
6. Michael Hussey
7. Tim Paine (w/k)
8. Mitchell Johnson
9. Nathan Hauritz
10. Peter Siddle
11. Ryan Harris

Watson shouldbat in the middle order as he's a good player of spin and Australia are dreadful vs spin at present. Also he can bowl more if he's in the middle order. If he can bowl more, than on a turning pitch Oz can play Smith/O'Keefe as a second spinner.

Clarke as skipper should see O'Keefe(both from NSW) get in front of average like Doherty, Beer and Smith

In F/C O'Keefe is statistically Australia's best spinner.

smith will be a very good allrounder, but i think o'keefe at the moment is better suited to 20-20 cricket.

don't want to argue but Steven Smith is almost as over hyped as Adil Rashid

Smith tries to bat like Hughes/Warner. Technically he's not a top 6 batter. Plus he needs work on his leggies

Maybe 5 years time he'll be a good player.

he will struggle cos every aussie leggie is compared to warne, and his batting will be good enough to be top 6 soon.

I'm not sure bro

Guys like Maddinson, Lyons, Wade all getting better all the time

I think Smith would be a great number 7, Haddin/Paine/Wade at 6

I would play

Maddinson(IMO technically much better than Hughes or Warner)
Watson(for now he should stay at the top.You cant have two inexperienced openers)
Ponting(he will stay at 3 for SL series
Khawaja
Clarke(c)
M Hussey
Haddin
Johnson
Krejza(Hauritz is still injured)
James Pattinson/Patrick Cummins
Doug Bollinger

I highly doubt Siddle will be ditched, he took most wickets in Ashes.

Cummins is too young and raw and has had back troubles, no need to rush him into International cricket.

Smith has been pretty pointless so far. Theres not much point in Australia having two spinners if they only use one, and when they do use both one is utterly ineffective. 3 wickets in 5 matches doe snot make him a genuine bowler. An average of 28 doesnt make him a worthwhile addtion to the batting at 6.

Its not harsh to critisize players on results. In tests Smith isnt one of Australias best bastmen or one of their best bowlers, to pick him strikes as odd. A side with Watson in doesnt need an all rounder, it already has one. Theres other proper batsman who can weigh in few a few change over bowling options if they desperatly need them.

On spinner friendly wickets why not pick two seamers, the best two spinners, and use Watson as a fifth bolwer?

Smith;s hype comes from a successful Big Bash back in 2009, took 15+ wickets at 6.

Australian selectors need to know that T20 isn't a good base to select Test players.

Australian selectors have made a few stupid calls in recent years, but the most horific of all was the one to ditch Simon Katich. Phil Hughes doesn't seem a technically sound player, capable of long tirm success. He has problems against the short ball, but he's not the only one with such an issue. But his game is not developed enough so that he can play all around the wicket.
And we all know they are struggling for a decent spinner who can, well, turn a cricket ball.

Haven't had a close watch of Australian domestic cricket, but from whatever I've watched and read,
Shane Watson
Phil Hughes(don't think its going to last long, but for the time being it seems the experiment is going to be in that direction)
Ricky Ponting(Think he's going to bat at 3 for at least the coming SL series.)
Michael Clarke
Mike Hussey
Usman Kawaja(He seems like the next big investment in tirms of Australian batters, and most of them starts down at 6 and then move up)
Brad Haddin
Mitchell Johnson
Nathan Hauritz/Jason Krejza/Michael Beer/Steve Smith/anyone else who bowls a bit of slow stuff.
Dug Bollinger
Peter Siddle.
