The faves from my childhood are:
The Trap Door
Chortle and the Wheelies
Bananaman
Rainbow
Danger Mouse
Battle of the Planets
Jamie and the Magic Torch (just for the theme tune, it's one of the best ever)
Wilo The Wisp
Grange Hill (early '80s era)
These days the only kids programmes worth viewing are Horrible Histories and Shaun The Sheep.

Cripes! A few classics from my childhood there. I was a big fan of Bananaman, Dangermouse and Battle of the Planets.
Would include Masters of the Universe (He-Man), Thundercats, MASK, Transformers, Inspector Gadget and Terrahawks (remember them?).

All the best kids TV is really aimed at adults anyway:
Duckula
Danger Mouse
Hong Kong Phooey
The Simpsons (well, that's really just a comedy soap opera, it just happens that all the characters are predominantly yellow drawings)

Dyrewolf - yeah I remember them. A lad who lived across the street from me had a huge collection of the He-Man toys.
I used to really enjoy Tony Hart's programmes as well. I know he had one called Hart Beat.

The Adventure Game was the weirdest "gameshow" for kids. Kind of an embryonic Crystal Maze with less budget.
Breadvan - I'm glad you brought up Jossies Giants. Great theme tune. I also remember Murphy's Mob. Also liked Press Gang. They did great kids dramas when I was younger.

I second that. Great series, although nothing really happened, the theme tune was class. Also liked the fact that Johnny's dog was named after a porn mag (Razzle)

Thundercats
Animals of Farthing Wood (this was amazing)
and what was that one, it was more of a quiz show, where children had to do loads of different tasks and where at the end the kid was on a giant chess board, facing a figure that looked a bit like Darth Vader? Can't for the life of me remember what it's called.

Midnight - I think that was 3rd Rock from The Sun? A US sitcom about aliens who were transported to Earth and resemble humans, but were mixed up in amusing ways. For instance one male alien had the human body of a stunning woman.

Re: favourite childrens show ever ?
Early Grange Hill was excellent - great characters and storylines. I started secondary school around the same time GH began, so I could relate to a lot of it. Some of the acting was pretty bad though, from what I can remember.
Re: favourite childrens show ever ?
The (original) Magic Roundabout, Captain Pugwash and Willo The Wisp always made me laugh. Roobarb & Custard was great (hard to get that theme music out of your head once you recall it!) Ivor The Engine makes me feel all warm and cosy when I hear it now. Barbapapa and Ludwig were just weird.

Grange Hill was great when Tucker and Benny were in it , i even liked Tuckers Luck .

Re: favourite childrens show ever ?
Actually some really good British actors cut their teeth on Grange Hill. Unfortunately they usually ended up on The Bill and Eastenders and it was downhill from there. I remember Tucker's Luck because my sister fancied Todd Carty
Double - Thank you for mentioning Barbapapa and Ludwig! No one seems to remember them except me. I loved them - weird European cartoons...
