Both win. Big lump of cash and the public get shafted with a poor fight that costs £15 to watch. Their would probably be a poor undercard as well because the fight would sell on it's own.

Can't say I've heard of them, to be honest. So no idea.

Gamboa for me. Think he can force a fight more than Rigondeaux and with his speed and accuracy is not east to counter. Rigondeaux doesn't have a style judges favour.

I would have to agree although Rigondeaux's body shots would cause real problems for Gamboa. Both have considerable power but I would tip Gamboa to win a close decision. His counter punching and speed is unbeleivable.

Re: Fantasy match-up! Who wins?
Would have to tip my hat towards Gamboa pretty conclusively on this one, too. Probably inside the distance. Don't see anyone approaching Gamboa's hand speed in the lower weights - Rigondeaux fights in spurts a little too much, I think, and when he does engage he leaves wide gaps, which someone as fast and accurate as Gamboa will take advantage of.

I'm with Gamboa too on this one (he is my favourite fighter at the moment). I think his footwork is good enough to keep him out of the way of devasting body shots especially as he has that Cuban style of, regardless of whether he's the smaller man (by height and reach, not weight), he fights on the outside not on the inside. If he's not engaging heavily on the inside but mostly staying out of range, just coming in in lightening fast bursts and allowing his footwork to carry him speedily out of there, I cannot see Rigondeaux's connecting with his best bodyshots.
His speed (of foot as well as hand), power and accuracy set him apart from almost any boxer in the world right now IMO (except perhaps Donaire). I think he's just got too much for Rigondeaux, as excellent as he may well be.

How about Mayweather v Whittaker at LW.

Think I'd slightly favour Pernell today. Threw more volume than Floyd. I'd have said Mayweather another time though.

Re: Fantasy match-up! Who wins?
I would go with Floyd I think Pernell was truely magnificent at times but I think Mayweather would cause him real troubles with his single shots and head movement. Pernell left more gaps than Floyd due to the fact he was a bit more aggressive and I could see Floyd taking advantage of that and winning a close UD.
Probably a fight I would enjoy but the general public would not be happy paying £15 for.

Re: Fantasy match-up! Who wins?
Mayweather-Whitaker is a notoriously difficult one to call, as they both would want to play the matador. That said, even the best opponents available couldn't lay a glove on Whitaker in his glorious prime. Mayweather, despite his defensive abilities, can get a little tied down if you stick a jab on him from the start, which Whitaker was more than capable of doing.
Don't see it being much of a fight in terms of action or excitement, but think Whitaker would nick rounds by virtue of his superior jab output and the fact that he threw punches in bunches more often than Mayweather, who hasn't been as ready to do so since stepping up beyond 130 lb.

Not to sure it would be close I think Floyd would outbox Forrest easily and win a wide UD. Forrest was all wrong for Mosley which is where the basis of his reputation is built. A prime Mosley vs Mayweather at LW would be very interesting imo. I could actually see Mosley winning that one.

Re: Fantasy match-up! Who wins?
Prime Mosley still gets tagged too much for my liking, too much of an open fan friendly fighter, though most definately he causes Mayweather lots more problems and with the speed aswell.
But I can see the last few rounds winding out like the last 3 of there WW clash with Mayweather being quite comfy and blocking everything thats fired at him... personally.

Roberto Duran against Alexis Arguello, a fight that perhaps could and should have happened?

Bridge too far for Arguello at 135lb. I suspect, Ghosty, but it would have been a fine spectacle, nonetheless.

Re: Fantasy match-up! Who wins?
Trussman still doing his best to convince everyone that, somehow, the result of Duran-Leonard I doesn't actually count, I see. Some things never change!
As for Arguello-Duran, well I absolutely love the pair of them but I reckon that Duran takes it by late stoppage. Arguello was still a force at Lightweight, but didn't quite have the same cutting edge that he'd had down at Super-Featherweight where he is, by a long, long way, the all-time number one. I think an Arguello-Duran fight at Lightweight would play out relatively similarly to the first Arguello-Pryor bout. Very even for the first half of the fight, but Duran keeps pressuring, pressuring, pressuring and eventually breaks through Alexis' guard to stop him late on, having just about turned the tide of the fight by then.

Re: Fantasy match-up! Who wins?
putting it into perspective.......
Pryor was stronger than Duran and if Dejesus can deck him then arguello's big right can do the same...
Hearns showed what a guy that punches straight can do to the Panamanian...once he'd tasted Hearns dig he didn't want to come inside..
Same here....Arguello.
Arguello for me......

hm, not sure if Duran stops Arguello, but I think the tide will swing to Durans favour towards the end with the middle and start extremely tight giving a slightly comfortable points lead by the end.

Re: Fantasy match-up! Who wins?
While comparisons with Hearns are there to a degree they are still worlds apart size wise, Hearns was a fully fledged Welterweight who could still bang at 175lbs compared to Arguellos limit being 140lbs, think saying Arguello could do what Hearns did is stretching things a bit.

Hearns was a murderous puncher at Light Middleweight Truss, Arguello was a decent puncher at light welterweight, they don't really compare other than in p4p terms

I think the weight difference changes things with that though, both are capable of the stoppage but don't think it comes. Arguello to start getting worn down last 3-4 rounds to swing it.

Re: Fantasy match-up! Who wins?
we are talking 135 aren't we???..
Ray Mancini had a great chin and he stopped him......
Kevin Rooney was devastated by a right at 140...on youtube that one...
I think Duran was a bully....Leonard made him quit and Hearns totally intimidated him...
I also think his lightweight reign was full of 90% crud......
I think his status as a top 10 p4p great is due to Leonard's tactics in the 1st fight...a fight I had Leonard winning by the way...
Hey who knows it's hypothetical and you night be right.

Duran v Chavez at lightweight. This would be a real dream match up imo. I think Duran would win he could do everything Chavez could but just a bit better but it would be a classic.

I'd pick Chavez at 135 he'd be strong enough to push Duran back a la Rosario....
Rosario reminded me of Duran......not as good but same result..
Chavez by decision.

The same way he outboxed....Laing, Benitez, Dejesus, Leonard, Sims etc.....
Chavez wore down Taylor......He was a better boxer if not fighter than hands of stone...
Pick Whittaker, Pryor, Arguello, Chavez, Camacho, DelaHoya, Mayweather to all beat Duran.......

Re: Fantasy match-up! Who wins?
Now picking Camacho is going way too far, the guy would run away for 12 rounds ala Chavez
Whittaker and Mayweather would be a stylistic nightmare for him while fights with Pryor and Chavez would be tight 50/50 affairs, De La Hoya and Arguello I can't see beating him at lightweight

Re: Fantasy match-up! Who wins?
Would much prefer to watch Duran-Chavez at home on television rather than at ringside, as I fear that everyone and everything within ten square miles would be wiped out, so ferocious would the battle be.
I think Duran eeks out a narrow points win. I think Kev has hit the nail on the head; they both did similar things but, at Lightweight, I think Duran did them all that little bit better. Chavez was a magnificent front runner, but did seem to loe his rag a little bit when he wasn't having it all his own way and he couldn't dominate his opponent. Duran may have thrown his toys out the pram in frustration at Leonard not standing his ground, but that's not going to be an issue here and I think Duran finally forces Chavez back in the championship rounds to pull the win out.

Ever seen Camacho's handspeed at 130 and 135.....Never seen anybody apart from Taylor as quick...
Watch Camacho-Limon on youtube....and be in awe of the performance..
He became a comedian later but prime Camacho was lightning...and skillful.
Chavez had a better chin....great body attack and if anyone was a front runner it was Duran....

Chavez had a better chin than Duran? Other than being knocked down once by DeJesus which isn't a crime when did ever look like failing him below 147lbs?
You say Hearns and Leonard, I raise you De La Hoya twice and Tzuyu
Suppose Camachos prime would be any time before losing to the great Greg Haugen whereas Durans would be at the time of the Hearns defeat

Not entirely sure that's a fair statement with regards to Duran, Trussman. He proved his mettle more than once when he was in a precarious position, or a fight was in the balance. Duran-Leonard I was even after ten rounds (Leonard perhaps a point ahead) but Duran dug deep and got the better of the late exchanges to take a (deserved) decision. De Jesus looked like he was about to take Duran's title in their second bout, but Duran pressured, pressured and pressured until he got his man.
Of course, Chavez pulled the Taylor fight out of the bag, so he's no slouch in this department. But when it comes to who had the bigger heart and who was more likely to walk through hell to get the win, I'd have to favour Duran.

Rosario was the lightweight biggest hitter and he couldn't hurt Chavez...
Duran was hurt at light a few times and decked....
Think Chavez takes it...Duran was a better boxer but Chavez had ways of making a guy get involved...
Think it's a war and Chavez was stronger at 135..
