Fair play to Samoa they have taken there chances well, fully expect mass changes from the Aussies at half time.

Samoa well and truly deserve their lead.

Australia being dismantled in this physical battle, have got a little better with Genia and Beale coming on but I really cant see them winning this match, biggest upset in Australian rugby since losing to Tonga in the 70s.

Samoa have played well but Australia have been awful also, the key to beating them will be in the forwards and scrum time especially. If you play running rugby against this lot you're asking for trouble.

A bit of a GG comment there mpc.
Samoa won fair and square to be honest.
Let's Wales off the hook now, perhaps Samoa will do a Mastercard with Aussie instead of Wales lol

Re: Australia v Samoa
I resent that! thought mpc28's comments were fairly true though. Samoa just too disruptive and physical for the Aussies today. But I doubt the Aussies will play as poorly as they did in the first half again in a long while.
Not showing Samoa enough respect in spurning those early penalty chances. Lesson learned.
Great win for Samoa, congratulations to them, even though they once again copped a lot of dubious penalties for they overwhelming physicality. That late tackle call in the first half was just laughable.
Let's Wales off the hook? WTF?

Did you notice how many Kiwis were in that Samoa team Welshjohn? kind of illustrates the ignorance in your point about NZ poaching Samoans yesterday doesn't it? It'll hurt like hell when those Kiwi boys who went to play for Samoa knock Wales out later this year. I guess you'll just be on to whinge about those poaching South Sea islands.

You're repeating yourself. Honestly as much creativity as the Welsh backline...the same thing, over and over. And over.
Now, pay careful attention next week when the ABs show you how to beat Fiji.

Well deserved win that. Samoa are tough bug hers - defended very well, and took their chances well. That winger is F.huge.
If they reproduce that consistently in NZ, they will prove a handful. They looked to have a bit of support there in the crowd, but will get a lot in NZ which should help them even more.

Great result. I think the number of games that they have played together recently with the IRB Junior Championship and Pacific Nations Cup must really have help. We (Wales) will really need to step up our game and play a smart tactical game come the WC. Well done Samoa!!

Perfect time for an ambush. Oz coming off a Reds final but playing players who havnt played for 3 weeks, while the Samoans have just been playing the Pacific cup.
Still, not a good start for Deans who will now do what? Rely on the bulk of the Reds as his top side.
Not a good sign at all and very surprising.

Well deserved win for Samoa. I thought the final scoreline was quite flattering for Australia. Samoa were on top most of the match in all key areas and came out with a gameplan... unlike us.
The Wallabies now only have 5 days to do some soul searching and get their best combination on the field before they meet SA. If they can't improve on today - they'll get smashed in the 3N and RWC.

Missed the game. Just saw thw highlights and read the matchreport. Anyone want to enlighten me how the Samoans managed to win. I've just looked at the match stats: http://livescores.smh.com.au/matches/rugby/match10607.html?page=scorecard&refresh=1310882998404
Samoa must have played brilliantly with what little ball they had.

bedford - There's a brief summary on Planet Rugby.
http://www.planetrugby.co.uk/story/0,25883,9989_7044411,00.html
As I posted in the virtual pub; Samoa felt sorry for Oz. They didn't start Census Johnston in the front row, and Eliota F.S. was also on the bench.

Re: Australia v Samoa
Probably illustrates that they could be a real threat to some teams in NZ. It should be like a home game to them. I think there are more people with samoan heritage living in NZ than in Samoa. This team has strong kiwi connections and should draw in the wider kiwi community (In todays game: over half the players born in NZ, almost all grew up or went to school here, most have played club, provincial or super rugby for NZ teams, and quite a few have represented NZ at age group level). It all adds up to a lot of locals feeling connected to the team. Could be as hard as the playing them Apia......

Re: Australia v Samoa
Didn't see the match. Was it really the physical pounding the reports are saying? Did Samoa score just due to the physical stuff, or were they better across the board? Very curious about their overall performance. Sounds like they played terrific defense.
For Aus, I still remember the Bled leading up to the RWC 2003. The ABs put 50 points on them in one match. Then the Wallabies make it to the final a few months later, beating the ABs on the way. So, I wouldn't worry about the Wallabies, but does show Samoa may be a force in this RWC.

Re: Australia v Samoa
For fans of the IRB World Rankings, this result sees Australia drop 2 points and Samoa rise 2 points. Australia fall to third, but remain almost a full 3 points ahead of Ireland in 4th and England in 5th. Samoa, who are 10th in the rankings, close the gap a little on Scotland, but the real result is putting some breathing space between themselves and Italy and Fiji in 11th and 12th respectively.

Not a good sign at all and very surprising.
I imagine Deans will be thankful that he's the Wallaby coach and not the AB coach in this kind of situation. The Aussies will say "fair play" and Australia will be back next week. Perspective will be maintained on the context.
Now the ABs on the other hand have this "win every game" mantra to live by. The world media would be decrying the ABs would would have "peaked too soon" or "choked" and internally a wave of fury, anguish, outrage and retribution would ensue. Talkback radio would be abuzz with calls for the coaches to the sacked and the players exiled and so on.
On the other hand Deans now clearly knows his (lack of) depth outside the Reds squad.

That's a bit of a blow really. I was genuinely quite proud of the fact we had jumped the Boks.
Now that it doesn't suit me, can I just say that the IRB ranking are the biggest load of horsesh17, conjured up by some irrelevant stats nerd with an obsession for quantifying what we all should be left to work out with our own brains like the good lord intended when he personally invented the game, uh-huh.
If we beat the Boks next week, can we have it back? Please?

Well done Samoa....you have to play what your against. Aussies might not have been at their best...but thats not Samoas fault...they played physical and tough...and deserved their victory.
I cant see anything other than a NZ win v Fiji
Ive said before, despite Fiji beating Samoa...i believe Samoa are far better at the moment. Fiji need more time gelling together and finding some form.

Geordie. My understanding is that the Samoan team is different to the the team that played the last two pacific nations cup games. This team played japan and then the majority of the players were rested against Tonga and Fiji.

Absolutely Ghost. I hear that even Al Jazeerer now have a permanent All Blacks news desk, and after his unprecedented seven month journey to 'Analysis', they are thinking of updating the Koran with his (you're no longer allowed to say his name) teachings.

Yes, you may. Any win over the Boks would see you return to second place, which is quite likely with the amount of players missing from the squad with various injuries.
Re: Australia v Samoa
The Australian players should volunteer their RWC bonuses to Samoa.
Samoa has just done them their biggest favour, the Ozzies will now be hell bent on proving themselves, they have now realised that any top team motivated and physical will beat you if you are mere percentages off your game.
I would expect the Springbok away squad to suffer the full brunt of the retaliation by the Ozzies.

Yes, a fair deal I would say Biltong... donate the bonus.
You know, I'm still a bit worried about next week. You'd think our guys will wake up from this poor display today and turn things around next weekend... but you can never be too sure.
I think your 'current away' squad could also smell blood and catch us off guard again! It should be a good match anyway... looking forward to see some improvement and obviously - more of a traditional 3N selection from RD.

Linebreaker, I mentioned earlier in the week that because the Australian team is still relatively young there could be question marks over their mental strength, but pride has never been a problem for any Ozzie team. They will be pretty peeved off by today's result and thus be putting 100% effort in next week.
