We recently worked our way through Boardwalk Empire. One of the side characters was called George Remus, who was one of those rare people who talked about themselves in the third person.

The real story of Remus is well worth a read (and yes the third person thing was for real). He started off working as a pharmacist in his dad's shop, took over the business and opened an additional couple of pharmacies before giving it all up and going into law.

He became a very successful lawyer and developed the defense of temporary insanity. He was making a fortune but, as this was during prohibition, found that some of his clients were making ridiculous amounts of money out of the illegal alcohol trade so decided on another career change.

He used his knowledge of law to work out a loophole in the Volstead act. He produced booze legally for 'medical purposes' then hijacked his own shipments before selling the alcohol on.

Eventually he was arrested for tax evasion and sent to jail. To protect his cash he put it in his wife's name. This he told to a fellow inmate who had befriended him. Said inmate was actually an undercover cop. However instead of passing this information back to his employers the cop left his job, hooked up with Remus's wife and they basically did a runner with Remus's money.

When Remus was released from jail a couple of years later he found out where his wife was, got a gun then shot her dead in public. At the subsequent trial he successfully defended himself, pleading temporary insanity. After a year in an asylum he was released and lived out the rest of his years quietly.

That is very exciting.  I recently met an Eastern European lady online. She's very keen to meet up but, unfortunately, her grandmother has been taken ill. I've been helping with medical bills and she can't wait to meet me as soon as granny is better.
