British Seniors at Walton Heath
Randy Haag~ do you think he will go all the way? Level par today.
Albert MacKenzie bit of a surprise there. anyone know about him?
Seemingly he is Scottish so I had better support him.

You're questioning whether a Randy Haag will go all the way??? Now...you could bet that £25 on an affirmative answer there

Tommy Armour III.
Now that makes me feel really old . The Silver Scot's grandson playing in the Seniors.
It would be interesting to see timed round comparisons to the main tour.
Any geeks out there know the answer to that one?

Just finished watching ESPN's coverage.
Walton Heath looking good! Haven't seen WH on TV seemingly for ages. It seems to receive mixed reviews from 606xx posters who play it; perhaps it's a bit long for higher handicappers? Certainly giving the best Seniors a fine test.
Surprised guys like Nick Price and Lehman are not in contention, but hope Barry Lane is in the shake-up Sunday's final few holes.
Plus; It would be great if there were some spectators there . . . .

I was there today! Fantastic day out. Well organised event, good facilities, decent weather and some even better golf.

Re: British Seniors at Walton Heath
We did a mixture of following some groups over a few holes, and made camp in good spots to watch several other pairs come through.
Saw a bit of Langer in the morning (and caught glimpses here and there of various others, e.g. Darcy). After a quick lunch, we saw a fair bit of Tom Watson performing some magic (playing with Peter Senior), caught up with Woosnam here and there, and watched the likes of Kite, Mize, Armour III and O'Meara come through the last few holes. We left just after Tom Lehman completed his round.
I think I was standing next to C Pavin's daughter(?) around the 18th green - she was speaking to one of the marshalls, had "Team Pavin" emblazoned on her jacket, and was referring to her Dad coming later.
That heather around the place is really nasty, and some of the bunkers were downright scary. A course which is way beyond my ability to enjoy playing I think (mixture of Old and New apparently, replicating the 1981 Ryder Cup according to the programme), but it was wonderful to walk around and spectate.

I've played both tracks there, no mixed reviews from me. Quite simply....wonderful!
If anyone from 606 gets the chance to play either/both courses then please take the opportunity.

They used to use a composite course when the European open was staged there as well. They even had a couple of holes where they drove from one tee diagonally across heather banks to other fairways which made it pretty tough to say the least

Re: British Seniors at Walton Heath
I remember the one and only time I played it in 1969 as a young man.
Drive, wee pitch and 6 footer for a birdie at the first. Huh says I, so much for so called tough Walton Heath.
Walked onto the 2nd tee and had to ask where the fairway was!
Great course apart from the first!
I think they lose it when they play the composite course.

I'm lucky to have played both courses several times, and one round on the Ryder Cup composite course. It is an acquired taste - first time out (4 years ago) I thought it was largely flat and featureless! Today I would have it in my top ten in the UK.
Have watched the US Open qualifying at WH for a few years and it is great to see the pros tackle a course (courses) you are familiar with.

Great course apart from the first!.
The first is now a par 3
Played both courses at WH in the last month (2nd visit) and was nt that impressed again. The wind blew which made the first 9 holes very tricky but the back 9 were very simple. I found 3 fairways all morning (old course) and still managed to make 3 birdies and had a closing 9 of almost level par.

I think DTW means the New Course. It's a short dogleg par 4, lots of people who haven't played it before hit for the wrong green because the proper green is tucked away and isn't easy to spot.

Also played both courses as recently as last year. It may look somewhat flat and featureless but there's a lot going on there. Some fantastic run ups, green complexes and you definitely want to be on the correct side of the fairway depending upon pin position. My second favorite Heathland course only to Swinley Forest.

I really like both courses at Walton Heath.
On calm days you can really shoot some scores there, but it's a completely different proposition on windy days, and with the rough a bit longer.
