surrey vs northamptonshire Clydesdale Bank 40
Chris Adams has named a fourteen man squad to face the Northamptonshire Steelbacks in the Clydesdale Bank 40 at the Kia Oval on Wednesday 3rd August.
Chris Jordan and Gary Wilson come into the squad to replace Jade Dernbach and Stuart Meaker, both of whom are unavailable through their involvement with the England Lions, who are taking on Sri Lanka A in a four day match in Scarborough this week.
also included in the squad mark ramprakash.
with only 3 seamers it seems certain jordan will start.
The full Surrey Lions squad to face the Northamptonshire Steelbacks at the Kia Oval on Wednesday 3rd August is:
Rory Hamilton-Brown (Captain)
Steven Davies (Wicket Keeper)
Jason Roy
Tom Maynard
Zander de Bruyn
Matthew Spriegel
Mark Ramprakash
Chris Jordan
Gary Wilson
Zafar Ansari
Gareth Batty
Chris Schofield
Tim Linley

Wilson, Batty and Spriegel to miss out for me.
Roy
Davies
RHB
Ramps
De Bruyn
Maynard
Schofield
Ansari
Jordan
Arafat
Linley
Enough batting and bowling in there I feel.
Arguably, we've had quite an easy ride in the CB40 this year. The games against Northants, Durham and Warwicks are going to be tough.

I think the team will be the one that Tibor has mentioned above but possibly Spriegel will be in for Schofield. Interesting to see Ramps is back, it must be felt that he has sufficiently recovered from his winter injury. Should add some stability although if him and The Brain are together for a while the scoring could slow down significantly.

I agree with Tibor's side, although I wouldn't be surprised to see Spriegel or Wilson in for Ramprakash

jbd349 i dont see the point of ramps being named in the squad if he will not play.

Yeah, Ramps wouldn't be in the squad if he wasn't going to play.

Re: surrey vs northamptonshire Clydesdale Bank 40
Schofield did show his value as a batsmen at the tail end of the run chase against Warks....
I recall that Ramps has scored fairly rapidly at times in limited overs matches in the last few seasons...
If Ramps is in the squad one does wince slightly at the choice between Ramps or Wilson!

Re: surrey vs northamptonshire Clydesdale Bank 40
Hmm. Clever work from Surrey but I'm not sure I agree with it. They have given Ramps a 1 match ban for his dissent the other day and therefore withdrawn him from tonight's squad. The ECB have confirmed that the matter is now closed. I'm almost certain they never intended for Ramps to play in this match and have used it as a way to make it look like they are punishing him when in fact it makes no difference as he hasn't played limited overs cricket all season.
At least he isn't missing a CC game!

Re: surrey vs northamptonshire Clydesdale Bank 40
Crafty stuff indeed.
In that case, I would guess Spriegel comes in to my team for Ramps, but further down the order.
Who knows maybe Gary "12th man" Wilson might get a promotion!
Annoyingly, there was better balance with naughty Ramps in the XI.

Very clever by Surrey, although I don't know what the ECB are going to say about it

Well unless they say he has to miss a game in the same format that he made the offence then they can't prove that he wouldn't have played tonight anyway, nor can we for that matter although it seems pretty obvious what has gone on.

Light in the bowling department today, can't really rely on Jordan to do a lot. Hopefully our batting will give us so many runs that this is irrelevant!

I too am worried about the bowling for today, hopefully Jordan will surprise us but it looks like it's up to the batsmen to win us the game today!

We're batting first after winning the toss, Wilson and Jordan don't play so we only have 2 seamers + Brain and 4 spinners!

Lovely irony-laden tweet from Ramps just now
"Glad that spirit of game won the day at Trent bridge & Bell is not banned for staying on the field or discussing decision with 3 rd umpire"

Hope our spinners are learning from Northants.
The slower deliveries are the ones looking dangerous, the quicker ones are being punished.

Re: surrey vs northamptonshire Clydesdale Bank 40
I don't think we've got enough here, just not enough depth to the batting after the top four are out we don't have anyone capable of hitting boundaries, although Spriegel did OK today. The Brain is the most frustrating batsman to watch in one day games, it takes him 4 or 5 balls to hit every easy single and he just slows the whole innings down. We may still win if our spinners do well, could be a close match.

Re: surrey vs northamptonshire Clydesdale Bank 40
How many times this season has a promising start in limited overs petered out in ever-declining run rate once Hyphen, Davies, Roy and Wine Gums have gone (and they all live dangerously)?
Only Spriegel, He-who-shall-not-be-named and Ansari have occasionally picked things up down the order.
273 pretty modest when we were 193-3 after 27.

Re: surrey vs northamptonshire Clydesdale Bank 40
That is true, but this score should still be enough against an out of form Northants. We should still be clear favourites and are indeed 1/9 to win right now.

What is the obsession with Arafat batting high up?
I cannot reall him ever having outperformed Ansari with the bat in a limited overs match.

I agree. If anything Schofield should be higher than 9. He's the only one who can hit the ball lower down the order.

Re: surrey vs northamptonshire Clydesdale Bank 40
This is all so typically Surrey isn't it? Fail to capitalise on a great start with the bat and then let a bowler opening the batting more than double his best ever score and let Mal Loye who has done sod all for a few years go along at a comfortable run a ball 50. so far. Very glad I'm going out now and don't have to watch the rest of this bowling 'effort'.

Re: surrey vs northamptonshire Clydesdale Bank 40
We were always going to struggle with only 2 seamers, especially with the way Arafat and Linley bowled earlier. Should have taken Northants at 6/1 at the interval.

Tide has turned in the last half an hour, all right. And apparently Schofield's just had a very plausible LBW appeal turned down, which would have put his clearly on the right side of the game.
178-3, run rate required now above 8.5 from the last 11.

Yep, that run rate needed to keep climbing, but instead it's been coming steadily down.

Re: surrey vs northamptonshire Clydesdale Bank 40
Spectacular collapse by Northants - induced by the Hyphen. Full credit to him for bringing us right back into the game when all seemed lost.
All Northants needed to do was push the singles + maybe a couple of boundaries then they were home and dry with wickets to spare.... Bizarre sort of a match....

Just as well you didn't otherwise you'd have been gutted by the late Northants collapse

Missed the game today unfortunately as I was watching Harry Potter in 3D at the Imax (recommended)
Another good win which surely puts one foot in the knockout stages. Reading the posts its sounds like momentum was swing from side to side probably good job I was out especially as I notice Schofield went at 6.5 an over for his usual no wickets.
Hamilton Brown 43 off 31 balls, 3 wickets and a run out.... Captains performance

It will be very interesting to see how many other cb40 games Ramps plays in
