Milestone Watch 2011 Empty Milestone Watch 2011

With Jim Thome and Tim Wakefield closing in on their personal milestones I thought I would look at some other players close to reaching landmarks during the last two months of the season, thanks to the folks at Baseball-reference.com

1. Homeruns.
598. Thome is two away from the '600 club' where he will join the great Willie Mays, Griffey Jr., A-rod and Sosa, (some of this group got a little help along the way Whistle ) Adrian Beltre is two away from 300 while Matt Holliday is two away from 200.

2. Runs Scored;
1399. The former Philly and Yankee, Bobby Abreu's next run will be his 1400. Orlando Cabrera of the Giants is on 982, while Micheal Young and Adrian Beltre are close behind him. All three should pass 1000 this season.

3. RBI;
1469. Vlad Guerrero needs 31 for 1500 runs batted in. Others closing in on milestones include, both Todd Helton and Albert Pujols on 1299 and Mark Teixeira on 992.

The records no one wants:
1. Strikeouts;
1883; Mike Cameron of the Marlins is seventeen SO's away from 1900 in his Major League career. Adam Dunn is 26 strikeouts from 1800, and looking at his season so far he should get there no problem!

2. Ground into Doubleplays;
242. Derek Jeter is eight away from his 250th GiDP, while Paul Konerko is on the same number.

3. Outs made;
8287. The Major League active leader, Omar Vizquel of the White Sox is an unlucky 13 away from 8300.

.... And now for the Pitchers.

1.Wins;
200. Tim Wakefield is still looking for number 200, after three trys at it. The majority of which came with the Red Sox after joining from his first ML team the Pirates. Justin Verlander's next win will be 100 for him.

2. Strikeouts;
2468. Javier Vasquez leads all active pitchers for career strikeouts and is 32 away from 2500. CC Sabathia of the Yankees needs 45 for his 2000 punch-out.

3. Saves;
588. Mo Riveria needs 12 to reach 600 and 14 for the all time lead. With about 50 games to go it is reachable for Mariano. Especialy on a team that will give you the lead going in the 9th inning like the Yankees. Jason Isringhausen of the Mets needs 2 for 300, while K-Rod needs 9 for the same mark.

Abreu's two Homeruns on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium ( thank you Bobby Wink ) sent him past 1400 runs for his career.

*If anyone spots any milestones been passed, such as the guys above or whomever, dont hesitate to update the topic*

Thome got his 600th HR against Detroit last night. He hit number 599 off Rick Porcello in the 6th and number 600, a three-run shot off Daniel Schlereth in the seventh.

And Tim Wakefield is still looking for his 200th win Rolling Eyes

Red Sox currently in the middle of a double header. They won this afternoon, but are 2-1 down in the 4th inning of their evening game against the Rays. And they have just made a stunning triple play. Wow! Awesome stuff.

Jane,
How come you're so quiet today? Thought you'd be all over Wakefield's 200th (ugly as it might have been)?
(And Mariano's 600th of course!)

I could have sworn I mentioned Wake's 200th win somewhere on here, but obviously not. D'oh!

Last night's game was fun to watch, but this afternoon it was business as usual with another loss. The lead against the Rays is three games with the Rays in action later tonight. It's going to be a wild ride to the end of the season.
