Paddy Wallace, first reserve?
Talking about squad selection with friends over the weekend, most agree that it is likely to be very conservative with no real "bolters" now that Felix Jones is ruled out. Jotting down names myself this morning and I think it could be curtains for Paddy. My (logic)... goes something like this...
With Jones out, I think Geordan Murphy gets his ticket
In previous squads Murphy has also acted as back up/3rd choice outhalf
With Sexton filling in at 12 on Sat, ROG and Murphy on the plane Wallace isn't needed
I think Mcfadden will get his slot.
I haven't seen many squad predictions on the site but for what it's worth heres mine
15. R Kearney G Murphy
14. T Bowe A Trimble
13. B O’Driscoll F McFadden
12. G Darcy
11. K Earls L Fitzgerald
10. R O’Gara J Sexton
9. E Reddan I Boss T O’Leary
8. J Heaslip D Leamy
7. D Wallace
6. S O’Brien S Ferris
5. P O’Connell L Cullen
4. D O’Callaghan D Ryan
3. M Ross T Buckley
2. R Best J Flannery S Cronin
1 C Healy T Court

Paddy Wallace is a racing certain for the plane - he may even be in the team.
Other than Trimble he has been as good as anyone playing in the threes and better than most.
Well wide of the mark on that count, other than that you squad is, probably, pretty close

OLeary should not travel. Take Murray.

I think all you have really done submachine gun is look for an absurd way to include both Fitzgerald and McFadden at the expense of someone else and ridiculously decided to leave out P.Wallace.
Fitzgerald and McFadden arent both going, we know that.
As for the idea of Geordan Murphy being fly half cover - absolutely hilarious.

I'm not Wallace bashing at all. With GM in the picture I think it's an option. Another is that Wallace is in the squad, neither Fitz nor McFadden travel and he brings an extra forward.
Possibly a prop (Hayes) but more likely Jennings as both Ferris and Wally are going to be seriously lacking match sharpness and injury worries. As for O'Leary, I thought he was fantastic in the first half on Saturday (brutal box kick aside). Seriously tried to play his way out of the squad in 2nd half but Kidney will bring him.

Has played there before for Tigers and for Ireland (during a ROG yellow card). Regularly comes in as a first receiver and has the passing and kicking skills to cover in an emergency which is what a third choice 10 would be used for. He would only be used as cover is one of the other 10s had a knock which stopped them being on the bench and then the other fly half limped off during the game.

Murphy as 3rd fly half is a joke - thankful Kidney will not consider it.

I think he is likely to be on the squad. If he is, he'll be the last name to be read out! W for Wallace is the last alphabetically. So we'll be guessing until the last

If it had even been remotely plausible Kidney would have given him some time there against connacht. end of story

on a side note does anyone know anything about Niall Morris, it looks like Leicester like to have an Irish fullback/wing cover, and seen as Murphy is getting older this is his replacement.

You don't watch a lot of Tigers games do you. Geordan comes into the first receiver slot quite a lot, whether it's to facilitate a wider position for the fly half so he can spread it quickly, kick to take pressure off of the ten or to offer the scrummy a left and right play making option.
Niall Morris seems quite solid but Tigers are looking at two or three young full backs. Morris is one, Mathew Tait has been signed as a back three option and there is young Alex Lewington who is coming through quite well. Be an interesting battle over the next couple of years.
