Wales v Fiji Thread etc etc
First topic message reminder :
OK so we are now down to the last group game and a win would hopefully see us into the Quarters, by the time we play then SA would have played Samoa and we will know what result we nee.
We have now seen all the 30 man squad have a run out so what would be your starting 22 for Fiji. Heres mine:
P James (given Jenkins time off the bench)
H Bennett
A Jones
AWJ
L Charteris
R Jones (Rest Lydiate until quarters)
T Faletau
S Warburton
M Phillips
R Priestland
S Williams (if fit Brew if not)
J Roberts
J Davies (but would like to see Sc Williams and Roberts get some gametime)
G North
L Halfpenny
Jenkins, Burns, Davies, Powell, S Jones, L Wiiliams (Knoyle disappointed today), Sc Williams

BRILLIANT TRY!
I seriously can hardly believe what I'm seeing.
Quick ball of a line out, Georgie straight through the middle and Excellent support from Warbs to go over for a try. I am loving this.
Georgie looking for work and man is it paying off.

Well Cari, fiji are doing themselves no favours here, they either kick the ball away when they have possession or otherwise hey run staright at the defenders and go to ground.
They aren't going to win that way.
On defence they spread wide to quickly and leaves gaps in the midfield for Jamie roberts and North to exploit, so they are on a hiding to nothing here.

After Barnes mess up in the Italy game, and the controversy in the South Africa he does owe us a few favours, lets be honest. He has stuffed Wales over through incompetency so I'm not going to complain if things start going our way with him for once.Cari wrote:Ah no Alyn, I don't want people to say Wales only won cause of Barnes. Re: Wales v Fiji Thread etc etc
I know biltong, I just can't remember the last time we've consistently played with confidence. Something happened in Spala and we've just been so composed ever since.
Maybe because we're out of the media spotlight back home in Wales? Whatever it is that they're doing, it's working. It's just a weird experience watching look so composed and calm on the pitch.
We've only looked our usual panicky selves for about 15 mins this rwc so far and that was against SA in the 2nd half.

Biltong - Gatland was commenting on the squad confidence earlier, and as the tournament goes on they can only get more so. It's great to see

If you draw up a petition to have the match result turned over vs SA, I'll sign it, then you guys can go through australia and NZ and we'll take your route.

He owes us nothing. He should ref each game with absolutely no outside influence ond no previous occassions should influence him. He's having a poor game, but that's for both sides.

I think it is your young guns. they were just commenting on them here in the Supersport studio, north 19, Warburton 21, etc.

Re: Wales v Fiji Thread etc etc
yeah there was an interview with North a while back when they were asking if he was worried about Samoa and Fiji because of previous results and he was like well no, he didn't really remember the Samoan ones because he was too young, and even the Fiji one he hadn't paid much attention too!
Guess the youngsters don't have any old demons to haunt them. THey are a new breed in Welsh rugby and I think Gatland has actually got the balance of youth and experience right. I'm loving it right now.

Fair enough, but at least some of the poor decisions are going our way for once with him.rugbydreamer wrote:He owes us nothing. He should ref each game with absolutely no outside influence ond no previous occassions should influence him. He's having a poor game, but that's for both sides.

oooof big hit on Byrne there, he's been lined up a couple of times I got to say!

Yeah definitely, the youngsters won't remember much about 2007.
I hope Wales can remain composed now, and don't go giving away penalties or getting complacent. They must play for the full 80. Fijians looking angry now. Big hit on Byrne. He looked like a rag doll then!

oh that was a bit of an embarrassing bit of overacting by the Fijian there, although I do think Byrne was lucky not to get penalised for obstruction or something.

No 16 from wales, falls around the side of the ruck, right in front of the assistant referee and he says nothing.

but we're getting pinged at the breakdown Biltong and quite a bit too.
Georgie!!
Great break and so unselfish, he could have gone himself there, and Roberts goes over, that's brilliant

We're starting to revert to type and go side to across the pitch, but just as I type that North straightens in the centre and we're through!

ah yeah, the officiating at the breakdown has been rubbish for a while now though. I don't think it's just Wales getting away with it though, Fiji are getting away with a fair bit too. They just aren't using the ball well enough when they do have it.

I think what we're seeing is the dominant team getting away with things just because they're dominant. It's the same thing as we have complained about in the past v the All Blacks. They just seem to get away with things because they're dominant. It's still wrong though, but perhaps human nature for referees to see a game like that?
