Wales v Fiji Thread etc etc
First topic message reminder :
OK so we are now down to the last group game and a win would hopefully see us into the Quarters, by the time we play then SA would have played Samoa and we will know what result we nee.
We have now seen all the 30 man squad have a run out so what would be your starting 22 for Fiji. Heres mine:
P James (given Jenkins time off the bench)
H Bennett
A Jones
AWJ
L Charteris
R Jones (Rest Lydiate until quarters)
T Faletau
S Warburton
M Phillips
R Priestland
S Williams (if fit Brew if not)
J Roberts
J Davies (but would like to see Sc Williams and Roberts get some gametime)
G North
L Halfpenny
Jenkins, Burns, Davies, Powell, S Jones, L Wiiliams (Knoyle disappointed today), Sc Williams

Wales look a lot better in every department than Ireland.
This is a phenomenal performance from Wales. This is a very poor Fiji side but that shouldn't take away from a ruthless and physical effort from Wales.
The AB's would be proud of this and Wales are the team to beat in this side of the draw, no doubt about it.

we're looking good rodders but we're still making lots of basic mistakes that sides better than Fiji would exploit. Still got lots to improve on.

I should add taht the ruthlessness is something new to our game and I am loving seeing it. I do think that this performance has revenge written all over it though. In years gone by we'd have switched off by the time we rached 40 points, I love that we are still pressing on and looking to score more.

Foxy!!!!
He should never have had the chance to score taht, poor defending by Fiji, but we played right through past the 80mins. CHuffed for Foxy getting a try.

Yes Dreamer I'm sure you do have things to improve on but a lot less than things than England, France and Ireland do.
Another try for Davies.
This side has a steel, physicality and depth that I haven't seen from Wales in while. They look pretty unstoppable right now.

Re: Wales v Fiji Thread etc etc
I am so, so happy with that performance. Can finally put 2007 to bed.
Credit to Fiji, they kept trying tot he last but they made too many basic errors when they had the ball and coughed possession up to easily and Wales exploited that brilliantly. We had to defend really well against them though, because when they're strike runners got the ball they did look dangerous.
That was a hugely confident Welsh performance, and with still so many things to improve on, it's another step forward.

Sure and Fiji are playing like a bunch of chubby schoolboys.
I am not only talking about this match, yes Fiji has lost it mojo, but you need to give credit to the way Wales is breaking the line and creating the gaps.
Granted, they have looked clinical.

Re: Wales v Fiji Thread etc etc
We made mistakes but that's understandable in the weather they were playing in.
What impressed me was the fact we physically made made Fiji look ordinary, it was not a dirty game but you could clearly see that the Fijians respected the Welsh boys.

well done Wales, you have amended for last world cup.
You have some very promising young players there, and although I originally thought becuase of your last few years not being great against ireland, you do look very good.
I like warburton a lot, he seems like a clean cut honest young man.

Both Thomond, we were v good, not outstanding and got lots to work on, but it's the most ruthless I've seen us play in ages. Roberts and North had stormers.

Feck! Will have a look at the highlights later on,were Wales inventive,or did the use the centres to go through the middle and suck in defenders.

mainly used teh centres and Georgrie, but you should check out Geth Jenkins' fly half skills, seriously the man can play anywhere so some inventive play too.

I wonder how long people will continue using North and potential in the same sentence.

Awesome performance. Fiji are no Namibia, they are hard and fast and well-organized. A real achievement to nil them, also loved the way we kept going after the 80 was up to get more points.
Not sure about Byrne - some of his options weren't so good.
Very impressed with Lloyd Willams' pass.
North - what can you say? We've had big powerful wingers before. We've had speedsters. We've had wingers with skills and tricks. Don't think we've ever had a guy who does all three.

North is like a young Gareth Thomas no more no less.
The only difference is North seems a bit more sane, though what made Alfie great was the fact he was a head case.

he's not world class yet. He's played well against Namibia and Fiji. Needs to show it against top tier sides now

Re: Wales v Fiji Thread etc etc
You mean his braces of tries against South Africa and England don't count? Not to mention the try against Argentina where he swerved 3 Argentinian players without them laying a hand on him, before drawing the fourth to put AWJ in don't either?rugbydreamer wrote:he's not world class yet. no I just don't want to hype him up unnecessarily. I know we all make jokes about him, and yeah he's amazing, but not world class yet. Maybe after the world cup we can call him that. And he's already signed for us for 3 years so he's not going anywhere! You leave my Georgie alone!
