Ashamed Tuilagi Makes a Break For It

First topic message reminder :

Tuilagi is apparently so ashamed of England's performance in yesterday's Qfinal exit, that he could no longer bare to be associated with his bested team mates.

The team had apparently become lost on their way to the plane, mistakenly believing they could take the Waiheke ferry to Sydney airport and avoid the British Tabloid media ruck at Auckland airport.

"I couldn't show my face amongst that idiot rabble amid another humiliating ruck-shy debacle" said the distraught young Samoan, "At the time, swimming back to Samoa seemed like a better option."

Ah yeah I get that Pete, was talking about the same thing with my Dad earlier on the phone. He's pretty disgruntled about all of it himself.

It's a bunch of guys who have been under a lot of pressure, and put themselves through a lot physically blowing off a bit of steam. It was stupid to jump in where he did, but more for his own safety than anything. A passenger ferry reverse thrusting over you is going to hurt, I don't care how big he is.

I hope the England side enjoyed their time in NZ, despite their disappointment, as I also hope that the many thousands of travelling England fans did. I hope my country treated them well and wish them all safe journey's home and successful futures.

I really didn't intend to bait a anglo-welsh flame war with this one. Sorry all.

RD - it wasn't so much the NZ and Welsh reports per se - it was the fact that NZ and Welsh fans chose to repost them

Wales look good, but I don't really see the need for the some folks to rub salt in to a departing team.

What the feck are you on about now! You've outlined your distaste for Wales ever since you've started posting what's that got to do with this post. When it come to Wales you are definately a case of the man doth protest too much. What is that really all about mate. Wales are fantastic. The fans are relentlessly passionate and don't pretend they prefer rugby league and cricket when they lose. They revel in self pity in defeat, aching painful, self loathing, introspective darkness and despair and in victory are euphoric to the state of being borderline unbearable. It's just kind of fun to poke the buttons at either end of the spectrum. Chill out, it's like playing with a sparkler.

the same press had mike phillips in it a few months ago - so press has got nothing to do with it. As i type Tuilagi "incident" is on sky news.

it's all about context, England have just been slated (rightly or wrongly), for off the pitch antics, but they carry on regardless.

Clearly jumping ship was the best decision any England rugby player has made in the entire campaign

Otherwise, yes, it's a non-story, like most of the other stuff. And I'm not sure England underperformed. France are better.

none of the events have been particuarly bad, but will all be brought up for months to come due to the overall performance on the pitch.

To be fair, in Samoa, this wouldnt even be thought of as an offence. Don't see what the big deal is. Even wuld go as far as to say it would have sounded legendary, apart from the police bit...

more than that, had wales lost to samoa (could have easily happened), and england scraped past france, we'd probably have months worth of BS about how wales mentally wore themselves out by not knowing how to let off steam.

Compare this criminal act to maybe/maybe not getting a kiss from a blonde who was maybe/maybe not a frind of your wife, a bit of banter with a hotel maid, and jumping into the sea and there is no comparrison. None of the England issues really have any substance to them. it's just that they have been highlighted by the media and cannot be defended due to the poor performances.

Maybe from now on England squads should lock themselves in a hotel for the entire time they are away. It seems way to escape being targeted.

Was going to write something similar. Going down the motorway drunk and in a golf buggy is horrendously dangerous, not just for Powell but other drivers. Whereas I still don't think the England players have done much wrong, meeting some of the England fans for a few relaxing beers has turned into the whole team being massive boozers. Tindall chatting to his ex means he's cheating on royalty. A childish and suggestive comment from Haskell has made the whole team arrogant and sexist. Ballgate was illegal, but no more illegal than collapsing the maul, a forward pass etc. I just wonder if another team would've attracted as much media attention.

Look at Corey Jane. Apparently he had a "lively" night out before the quarter finals, but it didn't seem to affect his performance yesterday.

I had a little laugh when he aggressively scrambled for the ball with the Argentine winger... after it had gone out. He was very well prepared for that game so whatever he did the night before should be in the 'coaching manuals'.

Yep. I suggest Jane and Dagg take Hosea Gear, Donald and Cruden out mid week and get into some serious training.

Seemed to clear their heads and focus them.

More heavy mid-week drinking and smoking is called for if we're going to topple the Aussies.

Just because you know about what england got up to this world cup(as tame as it was anyway) doesnt mean every other team is perfect or that previous world cup winning teams were any different.

it wasn't a gloat but a statement of fact pertinent to the issue at debate; England's behaviour off the pitch directly contributed to their failure on it. It totally explains their mindset at RWC; they were ill disciplined and unprofessional at best off the pitch, and in my view this contributed to their failure.
