606 Boxing vs 606V2 - who wins and why???
First topic message reminder :
Old 606
-------
Less moderation...however unruly posters tended to stay on longer......Had a mechanism for editing your own threads which came in handy...Took too long to get a response from moderators when someone was deliberately plagiarising your superb threads...
Not sure the moderators were knowledgeable enough......Layout was easy though..
606v2
------
Moderators can jump in hastily.......Idiots get expelled quicker though.....Moderators have a good knowledge of the sport.....Quicker to respond to your questions.......Tends to forcefeed advertising to you at times.....Layout probably not as precise as the old 606.....
Much better than the Eastside layout......
606v2 by decision...

Probably true, OneBomb.Fists of Fury wrote:Mind the windows Tino. wrote:Scottrf wrote:How did you find your way here Franz?
I was a long time reader Scotty, just never posted.
I reckon Tino was one of the infamous wums on the old 606, he just wanted a fresh start as a (slightly) more normal person here.

Tina was Davidemore, he has gone for a less articulate/intelligent persona this time around.

I miss LESCARGO. He was always impartial and took into consideration other peoples point of view, even if he didn't agree with them himself. He never resorted to petty name calling like 'numpty' or used phrases like ,'be gone', 'off you go' or even 'you have just been owned'.

I wonder how many of the WUMs have actually left, and how many were now ‘long term readers’ of the old 606.

FN and Shantel were different people. PBF is Shantel.
Back to Dawson/Hopkins gate, have you named the new rule yet. Thought Michaels's law was very catchy.
WBC called it a draw, and Boxrec will change it to that on the 13th Dec.

Correct. FN called himself Shantel at one point while he was changing his name every 2 days but it was a different account.Michaels, Sean wrote:FN and Shantel were different people. PBF is Shantel.

Why will Boxrec change it? Is the 13th when the State Athletics Commission meet? What the WBC do is essentially irrelevant to the actual result.

Boxrec will report the amended result if the CSAC decide to amend it, Boxrec have no say in the actual changing of the result.

Re: 606 Boxing vs 606V2 - who wins and why???
Some of the wums were aliases of regular posters. I remember catching out the real poster for that Tiger something wum but I didn't expose him as he was a decent enough sort.
Tripping up Lescargo was nice. I still reckon old Les has a few more aliases.
I doubt the old BBC board went to a lot of trouble checking IP addresses so people could easily create lots of aliases and get away with it. I reckon posters here would have to go to a lot more trouble here to disguise their IP address if making multiple accounts. That's possibly why some of the wums just disappeared, it's probably just not as easy to have two accounts here.
The wums on the old board could have been aliases of just about anyone.
I never thought Shenglong was an alias, he was too authentic.

Well, I got banned from ESB for noticing that one of the mods, who makes their radio show was actually posting under another WUM account. Tells you a lot. Shambolically run, but some of the humour in the lounge is brilliant.

Eye if you post before the deadline there is no issue other than the one in peoples mind. Nobody is under any obligation to post at any time other than within the deadline, I do it early simply so I don't forget and don't take it all that seriously, beyond dearly wanting to beat Tina, although thus far that is not proving too tricky.

I've noticed the mods on ESB seem to appear to stir things up if one of the boards goes a bit quiet. I once got banned for 10 minutes for slagging off Holland. On it's day when all the comedians are around the Lounge is absolutely hilarious.

Jenna's posts are weird, deliberately very profane and then sweet as pie on the radio, something doesn't fit. The mods do go out of their way in the Lounge to try and shock people for laughs. I agree the photoshops and some of the homemade videos are very funny.

Tried ESB briefly, the classic section is OK. There are some seriously knowledgable guys on their about the history side of the sport. Lasted about two minutes on the general section, think someone threatened to bust a cap in my behind which sounded fairly unpleasant so gave it a miss after that. Personally don't like having everything split into old, new British and seperate sections prefer to have it like on here, far better way of learning a bit more about the sport in my opinion.

I think it's decent apart from the General forum. The British breaks a lot of news and has decent discussion, really knowledgeable Classic posters and the Lounge must be one of the funniest forums there is at times.rowley wrote:Tried ESB briefly, the classic section is OK. Yeah I'm the same Jeff, it's far too segregated.
Also, despite containing some knowledgeable guys there appears to be a 50 to 1 ratio of twerps to decent people.

I think the two sites are very different. I don't think they are each others competitor. V2 if they play their cards right has the potential to be a much bigger site than ESB. ESB is more of a fan site that grew with few controls in place. V2 inherited the well established BBC 606 format that the BBC spent millions creating, establishing and maintaining. Millions of people have heard of 606, it's only thousands with ESB. That is why I was surprised the lads here were thinking of changing the name.
As an aside I know people here like the format of the site but they should consider other background themes to attract in newer punters and younger people. I think the place is in danger of seeming a little austere. The site also needs to be promoted more. I wouldn't be too worried about what the Beeb think. If they get properly legal then at that stage change the name.
PS the ESB Brit board covers the same topics as here pretty much, international fights and classic fighter comparisons etc. In saying that stuff from the bare knuckle days is usually only in the classic section.

606v2 for me, have been a long time reader (both here & on the old 606) and much prefer the layout, quality of posters and lack of WUMS.
As pointed out somewhere above, the need for new members i have finally taken the plunge! Albeit nowhere near as knowledgable as the majority, but maybe a tad more knowledgable than waingro by the looks of some of his posts/replies!
Would like to just say hello, and i look forward to contributing more in the near future, apologies to TRUSS for adding this on his thread!! I am aware how sensitive he can sometimes be....

Welcome aka. Although I should point out, you are not allowed to be a "long term reader", you have to have been a WUM on the old site. Much like myself.
