First topic message reminder :
its really good to see that the cricket section has really taken off. I remeber at the start when there was only a handful of us, and now there's so many of us making a lot of posts and threads, good to see the cricket section, and the site going from strength to strength everyday

Yeah, that's ok, gives us a few days to recharge the batteries before an assault again in the new year!
Hall of Fame results, along with new candidates, and the results of the greatest Test captains rankings will be completed after Christmas at some point, if you don't mind.

606v2 cricket section -
An oasis of calm and tranquility (and some superbly knowledgable posters) compared with the lunacy on some of the other parts of the board (Tennis has been having a meltdown this week, to follow the Golf mutiny of a couple of weeks ago).
Let's hope we can keep it this way

"Golf mutiny" hardly the fault of those that try and keep the golf board interesting dummy. Let's leave it at that.

I know - seemed to be a clash of egos rather than much else. Pity that the board lost some interesting contributors (the likes of Maverick) as a result.
Anyway, have a great Christmas.

And big, big, very big to the Ashes-winning England team who were named the BBC's Sports Personality Team of the Year after becoming the first England team to win in Australia since 1987.

Just to echo what's been said, thanks to all the contributors in this section, it's come on leaps and bounds from when Fists and myself started keeping an eye over it.

Re: cricket section
I posted this on the rugby section, but would like to just add it to the cricket section as well.
When I heard about the potential closure of 606 in the beginning of the year I was quite disappointed, it was the first website I joined for the purpose of chatting online about sport, and it didn’t take me long to get quite addicted to the manner in which almost any time of day you could find someone to have a debate regarding sport.
In particular Rugby and cricket has been the two sporting codes I have been following with passion and enthusiasm. As my wife is not really interested in sport and my son far too young to debate sport with, it was often a case of not being able to talk about things close to my heart.
So 606 was that outlet for me to either rant or celebrate my team’s victories and losses. At first I considered withdrawing from sport blogging simply because any other website I found was simply not the same, perhaps because you get used to the posters and get to know them.
So when people started talking about the 606v2 Forum I thought to give it a chance to keep me chatting online, as I am not a facebook fanatic and don’t care to just shoot the $h!t for no reason, sport blogging was the only way I would remain on the internet.
It was a pleasant surprise when most of my rugby buddies joined 606v2, and it felt like the same place, granted a few of the unpleasant numpties didn’t follow which I suppose is to our benefit, but overall 606v2 had a familiarity to it and I felt at home right away.
So. to the founders of 606v2, the administrators and moderators. Thanks for providing us with a platform where we can debate with civility most of the time and share our frustrations and triumphs alike.
To the posters on 606v2, I enjoy myself every time I come on here to talk about what matters, it is nice to be able to write something humorous every now and then which is appreciated by some and then also to write some more serious threads about a specific subject or team. Thanks for accommodating a simple Boertjie from South Africa, even when I do lose my cool once in a while. As you all know I am a rather passionate Springbok and Protea supporter and attempt to remain level headed and objective most of the time.
Merry Christmas to all and a prosperous new year, may your goals be achieved and you enjoy good health. Hopefully we will still be able to enjoy each other’s company in the new year.

Re: cricket section
biltong,
Merry Christmas,
The Golf Board has been short of South African contributors since Ernienotels took his leave of us; take a look there if you're at all interested as the South Africans on the PGA Tour especially are quite well covered.
PGA Tour obviously a bit "slow" right now, but Kapalua'll be here in a fortnight and the board will be buzzing again.
Also, a big to Fists and to everyone else who make the Cricket Board so interesting.

Well said bb
Cricket Section:
As much as I love other sports, there is something about cricket that stands it apart from other sports, of which, if i were to try to put it into words, we would be here all night. But I am sure you guys know what I mean.
And I think that very difference is usually portrayed in the average cricket fan and thus the more than average poster.
to all in the section, and hoping for new arrivals in 2012.

It is timely to unveil my 606v2 scratch Christmas XI
Roy Virgin (Somerset)
Robbie Joseph (Kent)
Collis King (W Indies) bearing a gift of myrrh (v Hughes - Australia)
Rev David Shepperd (England)
John Shepherd (W Indies)
The wise Simon King (Surrey - released), coming from the Ray East
Don Shepherd (Glam) and his Woolley sheep, Frank
With the nativity play overseen by cleric Matt Prior in one of his large assortment of Chappells (Greg, Ian, Trevor, not to mention the misspelt Glen)

Corporal,
Are you the resident padre also? Very imaginative!
As a Hampshire afficionado, and in the spirit of the great Butch White, I'd hope they were Eager to be quaffing the Burden of A(r)lott of Can(ning)s of Brown or Gray(?) Mead (bought from Sainsbury's?) to the game on the (Martin) Heath, perhaps on the feast of St.Nicholas.
Merry Christmas to all

Let's hope they don't get completely sozzled - otherwise they may be found roaming the streets of Basingstoke in disguise, faces plastered in [Gordon] greengage jam and [Dimitri] mascara -upsetting the residents by Udal ling at the top of their voiceskwinigolfer wrote:

Yes Corporal, was trying to fit in a (John) Holder of some (Trevor) J/Zesty Christmas (Alan) Wassell, perhaps playing an away game at nearby Arundel (Alan) Castell, but it all started to get a little tenuous. Good job I've been awol for the past thirty years.

Re: cricket section
During the tea interval the players were greeted by the Bishop (Ian). Merry (Bill) Christmas said the bishop. "And the same to you your W.G Grace replied the players.... Don't stand on ceremony said the Bish - call me Flower (Andy). Just then it started to Snow (John). Shivering Chanderpaul they cried. A halfyard (dave) of snow soon fell... and it was White (Craig, Butch, Cameron) everywhere. Ignoring the sledging of some passing tennis 606v2 posters they hurried back into the pavillion for, all round.Corporalhumblebucket wrote:It is timely to unveil my 606v2 scratch Christmas XI

Re: cricket section
Guys,
I do think this is one of the (two) best cricket message boards I've ever been on (no the other one wasn't 606 this is far better). Can I please make one small suggestion? Can we ignore the WUMs rather than rising to the bait? I know I can sometimes be as guilty as anyone, but it is rather obvious when someone posts something purely as a wind-up (best recent example is the "everyone draws in South Africa" thread); clearly rational debate and arguments won't work so I honestly feel it is best ignoring them.
