Not sure... better help is available these days but the person somehow has to find the right family/professional support. It's difficult to achieve this sometimes isn't it?

True, it is difficult. But don't we need to get to the point where saying 'I have depression' is met with the same understanding as saying 'I have cancer' is?

No, they're two different conditions... outcomes may vary greatly depending on several factors & treatments. It's a very complex subject is it not?

It is incredibly complex, and probably too complicated for here. Agree that understanding is the key regardless of the condition?

I actually visited the Doc to get checked up after our recent loss (thinking I had some severe illness) - and she suggested I also make an appointment with a psychologist (I was feeling very down about 2-3 weeks ago). This was a first for me.

Thanks to family, friends, you guys on here and the Doc - it was a relieving experience for me and I feel as though I have a new lease on life... I just got things out and talked about the loss, my future plans & expectations. We all have an amazing inner strength - but once in a while we feel we have lost it... do you know what I mean?

I know exactly what you meen mate , i was in a very bad place a few years ago , having seen 2 close friends die . I couldn't understand WHY it had happened but with the help of family and also talking to a doctor i was able to put things in perspective and move on . Do you think its a male thing that we just dont talk about personal things like women do ? Pride or something ?

Yeah probably... yet the irony is these days the younger generation is encouraged to express more emotion - which our generation may see as wussy behaviour or a sign of weakness?

True , when i was offered help - someone to talk to , i was initially not interested ........ after all there was nothing wrong in being sad when friends have died .. but i didnt see how badly it had effected me how it had changed they way i behaved . Talking to someone helped bring it all out .

If anyone feels things are getting on top of them i really do advise talking to someone who can help , dont let things get to a point of no return .

No, she mostly sat back and just listened... nodded her head, added a few words and gave me 2 x A4 sheets of paper which I only read this morning.

I'm covered with my health insurance... completely free. Do you think it's worth going for a follow up in January?

No - I gave away the Virgin special price airfare, SYD-BNE... he wasn't too pleased I don't think. To be honest, they'll probably jack up the prices for the Tour though, don't you think... or will Branson be kind to his fellow compatriots?
