ATP 1000 Paris Bercy 2011
First topic message reminder :
Here we are again...the last tournament of the year, the second indoor 1000 event, Paris Bercy 2011.
And just like in Shanghai, it seems it won't be complete with the best players around: as things stand Djokovic Murray and Federer are all playing, but few will be surprised to see Djokovic pull out in the light of Saturday's injury.
Nadal and Del Potro are also not playing, still, a strong field with Tsonga, Monfils etc promising good fun for tennis fans.
Assuming we have now only Federer and Murray left in the draw as number 1 and 2 seeds**, and that Murray doesn't have any "freak" night injuries, we still have plenty to look forward to in terms of tennis, especially as the surface of Paris Bercy seems to have been made faster*, giving us some really good matches and all-court tennis last year.
* ouch! the surface is back to "slow". According to Andy Murray.
** double ouch! Novak IS playing
The draw:
http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2011/352/mds.pdf
Order of play for the final, Sunday, 13th of November 2011:
http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2011/352/op.pdf
With only a few spots left for World Tour Masters year end event in London, it will be interesting to see how things unfold.

Tie break looking good though but it feels moer like Tsonga is beating himself.

disapointed with Tsonga today, forehand misfiring badly and given how average his backhand is it was always going to be an uphill battle. Fed was excellent in the first, tailed off in the second but Tsonga made it easy for him in the TB.

just confirming then, nine masters- six won by Djoker, one each by Nadal, fed and Murray. A very dominant year for top 4.
Well done Fed, first masters since cincy last year. Second now on all time masters list.

Ehhh....New Fed just "walked it"!
Fed had much more trouble in 2006 against Ljubicic than he had against Tsonga today.
But hey, we have all a tendency to get stuck in the past!

Fed's superior mentality won it for him in the end, on paper Tsonga had too much for him playing the way he did. He truly has many tools to win with, he did it without his tennis today.

That is essentially the result of having to play outside the comfort zone. Tsonga was rushed enough to go for broke.

Yet again I find myself asking why it is that Fed can give away years in age to every one of his five opponents this week ..... and between them they haven't managed to take a single set off him
Congratulations to Federer in completing his Masters full set, last bit of the jigsaw

He hasn't won Rome or Monte Carlo or Shanghai (although he's won the Tour finals there a couple of times)
Also won at Hamburg when it used to be a Masters.

Re: ATP 1000 Paris Bercy 2011
He's still to win Monte Carlo, Rome & Shanghai but he's reached all the finals and winning this now takes him back to No.3 again so no small victory. He's defending his points for the second half of the season pretty which is good news if he wants to stand a chance of gaining the No.1 ever again but he would still need to win the maximum 1, 500 points to give him the perfect platform to attack for No.1 next year.
With Fed in this form, I think the WTF in London looks exciting, Djokovic comes there as the new World No.1 although with an injury concern, Nadal comes there as a potent force and Fed and Murray come off good recent winning streaks, so the competition will definitely be red hot.

"For me Roger is the best player there is and he will stay that way for some time to come," said Tsonga.
Also the backhand that Fed hit without looking where Tsonga was when he had to go so far out of of the court, is a sure candidate for the best BH point of the year.

Twas a nice BH and great performance from Fed who seems to be serving better than ever. Tsonga wasnt on all cylinders but he would have had to play a fair bit better to beat Fed today.
Should make for a good WTF...will have some interesting questions to answer, Nole's shoulder, Nadal's head, Murray's consistency, Fed's momentum, etc...Berdy the dark horse?

If Berdy is in same group with Murray, he's going to get pulverized by Murray as a revenge never seen before, then be chased around the court with a bottle of Czech lager.

Berdych and JWT have played well in this tourney. Can they do anything in London? The big four have monopolised the major titles this season. Could anyone from 5 to 8 come thru at the 02? IMHO Fed is favourite, as he's playing well and we've little idea how fit Djoko and Rafa (who has a DC final to think about) will be.
The other top guys will be hoping Rafa and Djoko will be meeting again plenty of times early in 2012 as they seem to do each other in!

His SF with Federer yesterday, Federer played on of the best 3 set matches i've ever seen him play, yet the score was a respectable 6-4 6-3..
Had he played Murray in that form, the score would've been in the region of a Parental Guidance 18+.

Berdy's own DHBH had real venom, with winner written all over it. In fact even his return of the Fed serve in that rally was enough to take the point against most players !

Rafa did not play Paris, so no need to have unnecessary Fedal debates.

I noticed that Simple Analyst, aka Uneducated Biased, aka Tennis Tutor, disappeared very soon after the USO (I guess the 6 in a row defeats proved just too much for him .....)
It was partly his disappearance that made me join up here, because his childish diatribes had became extremely tiresome towards the end of the old 606.
However prior to signing up - and as an interested observer from the sidelines - I did get a lot of entertainment when he managed to tie himself up in knots so horribly (on his own thread !) about deciding set tie-breaks and mental tougness, or similar.... One of the most enthralling series of exchanges ever, although definitely not in the way he intended !! Perhaps the understandable ridicule he got from more informed and knowledgeable posters also contributed to him going AWOL ....

We all need fools to bring some relativity to our thoughts and ideas. It allows us to approach a critical angle onto our own views. SA had that great role. I did not mind him.
