Unpopular wrestling opinions......
First topic message reminder :
Hopefully this will spark some debate, what do you like/dislike that goes against the general status quo....
ED please refrain from commenting... your man crush on Heath Slater has inspired this post.....
1987 - 1992 > Attitude Era
Triple H vs Taker Wrestlemania 27 was not a classic
The GTS is a terrible move often poorly executed
The greatest heel in WWE history is without doubt Vince McMahon

Japanese wrestling (NOAH and Pro Japan) deliever far better matches than the WWE and TNA. Only thing that comes close is ROH.

Promo wise possibly. But not match quality wise. Bearing in mind I was a big Flair fan 89-92.

Re: Unpopular wrestling opinions......
Still think Flair had better (and i use that word loosely) matches 2002 onwards in WWE. TNA Flair seems to be a comic book version of WWE Flair. In that respects, entertainment wise, you are right. Depends what you class as important. Which leads me to...........
Backstage antics are more important than the actual wrestling.

I think Ryder was great as the underground underdog who fought to get noticed - His online video's were entertianing to begin with but I must admit i haven't seen one for weeks... I can't put my finger on it but he's become stale very quickly
I never actually found any of his videos interesting at all. It just looked like a ''goofball'' acting like a fool, If he's never going to be upper-mid-card level then why bother letting him go over real talents like Swag/Zig? Just because CM Punk said so? Because the fans want it?

I said punk was getting stale but as brady quite rightly pointed out it was the wrong choice of word, what i meant was for me punk has got boring very quickly. When he cut that promo he was red hot but since then he hasnt excited me at all....i would never knock punks in ring skills he is one of the best but im not with the general feeling he is the new massiah

I dont claim he should've been World Champion, he was good enough in my opinion but you are absolutely right that with Hogan, Savage & Warrior on the scene DiBiase didnt have a prayer.
I dont think he was overated though. He was a decent talker, a decent worker and had a good gimmick. He was a solid upper-midcarder but a very good one at that.

His build up was too quick, he had no where to go once his plan to buy the title backfired. You could have had him doing some of the stuff he did after, before, he got thrown into the title mix.
He could have been used instead of Slaughter as a transitional champ. Have him fight for the title & buy Savages help. Then in 91 he could buy belt off Taker after Survivor Series (since he brought him in) & still setting up the Rumble 92 for the belt

Brock was WAY overpushed from the start, like a WWE version of Goldberg.
Dude Love was my fav Mick Foley character
Steamboat/Savage at WMIII is overrated
Christian deserves nothing more then the Mid Card
Maryse isn't that attractive Layla is superior to Michelle McCool
The Straight Edge Society should have been around for longer
I look forward to the Cobra!

If you read my initial statement you'd see that I rate him, but not as vastly as many do, he doesn't make the top 20 in the G.O.A.T in my opinion so when I see him called one of the G.O.A.T's I consider that overrated

Re: Unpopular wrestling opinions......
The Iron Man match at Wrestlemania 12 was a complete and utter borefest.
Chris Jericho is not a main-eventer.
Triple H only had one good year as a top guy (2000).
Shawn Michaels' matches were just as repetitive as John Cena's.
'Strong style' wrestling defeats the purpose of professional wrestling.

When John Cena turns Heel it will have no where near the reaction that Hogan's turn did.
Punk is sloppy in the ring.
Bret screwed Bret.
The Rock has been awful in most of his "via satellite" promos.
Cena should only wrestle on RAW once a month and it should be in squashes too. (This will thus make PPV matches seem more worth the outlay).

The Rock vs Austin at Wrestlemania 17 is overated.
Bret Hart's matches rarely entertained me.
Edge's spear is one of the worst finishers ever.
RVD is very much 1D, dont rate him.
Sting is still good enough for a run in the WWE.

1) I hate Kofi Kingston- I just think all his moves look weak esp that Boom Drop and Captain Charisma Christian is BORING with his fake ass tan
2) I loved it when The Rock hit Michael Cole with the Rock Bottom a few months back
3) I feel sorry for JR
4) Alex Riley should team up with Swagger for some frat boy tag team
5) I dont get what Teddy Long brings to Smackdown...holla!
6) I want to see HHH continue to wrestle

Punk is very overated. The man can't hit a GTS properly.
Bret Hart is annoying and was never that good.
Christian is not main event material, and is upper midcard at best.
Jack Swagger will never come to anything and is a poor mans Kurt Angle.
Deuce and Domino were better than Air Boom.
Andre The Giant should be remembered as better than Hogan.

I still like Hulk Hogan and think he still has plenty to offer wrestling.
I always liked the NWO more than DX.
In its day WCW was miles ahead of the WWE.
Dynamite Kid was the best technical wrestler ever.

I completey and entirely disagree. In the space of 6 months CM Punk has -
Delivered the best promo seen in years.
Was red hot on the mic in 'contract negotiations' with Vince.
Was one half of a 5 star rated match.
Won the WWE Title.
Returned with new entrance music and new t-shirts.
Main evented Summerslam.
Fueded with one of the Greatest of all Time Triple H.
Main evented Night of Champions.
Main evented Hell in a Cell.
Tag teamed with HHH against Awesome Truth.
Now fueding with Del Rio.
Having a WWE Title match at Survivor Series.
Continues to be dynamite on the stick.
Now to me, that seems like a mixed bag and is anything but stale.
Agree with you H! Punk is not getting stale

Slaughter came from no where & was given a completely distasteful gimmick inappropriate at the time. It was the lowest attended Wrestlemania & I expect one of the least profitable. A Dibaise slowly built up gradually using his money to manipulate people until he got the title. Enter the All American hero to prove that good will always conquer over greed.

Ha!
I feel that Jericho is good at most things, but not great at any.
Never really rated Flair as a wrestler.
I enjoyed Taker's American bad ass gimmick.
Austin should never have won the rumble as many times as he did.
I enjoyed the Nash-HHH feud from 2003. I was young at the time so if maybe if I watched it back, I wouldn't.

In all seriousness though.
Wade Barrett is the best talker in the WWE at the moment.
Bully Ray is the best heel in the business.
I am huge fan of Kevin Nash.
Mr Kennedy is terrible on the mic.
Maven, he should be huge in the WWE at the moment.

Disagree about Kennedy though - I thought he was very good on the mic against Sting a few months back.

Re: Unpopular wrestling opinions......
Bully Ray could literally draw heat from a freezer he is that good at what he does. Have you seen any of his earlier work from when the Dudleyz were in ECW? He had guys wanting to kill him at some of the shows. But his last 9 months have been exceptional!
As for Kennedy, I feel his biggest problem is that he can't decide if he is face or heel in his promos. One week he is heel and the next he is face. I know that may be down to TNA's booking but I just find it confusing watching him.

I'm not doubting that at that particular time DiBiase was better than Slaughter, all I said was that for Deebers to be given the belt you'd have to go back to put months of planning into it, but lets not sugee coat, as distasteful as the whole Iraqi sympathiser gimmick was, it was done for the sole purpose for the American Hero to put him in his place at Mania.Brady12 wrote:the-gaffer wrote:I don't agree though that he could have been used as a transitional champ in 91 instead of Slaughter, for that to work you'd need to change months of backstory since the plan was always Warrior/Savage (which should have been for the belt) and Hogan/Slaughter

WrestleMania VII bombed big time but that was due to the backlash of taking the title off Warrior/Savage
As for them regularly rewriting stoylines, remember this was 1990 when 8 weeks of TV's would be done in under a week, it's not like nowadays where they can change things instantly, by the time Slaughter was re-signed the whole DiBiase/Dusty Rhodes program was well underway, with the whole Saphire thing at SummerSlam, that feud had far more legs in it, infact it didn't finish until the 1991 Royal Rumble
Slaughter shouldn't have been given the title but he was brought in for one purpose and that was for Hogan to take America's revenge
Besides due to worsening back and knee injuries DiBiase's singles career was winding down by the time 1991 arrived

I can't accept you totally dismissing the idea than the stories couldn't of been re-written. The main evnt for Wrestlemania 8 was originally set as Hogan vs Flair was it not?

Apparently so but when Hogan/Flair did houses in late 91 they didn't create the buzz McMahon expected, after the 92 Rumble Hogan told Vince he was off after WrestleMania, Flair had just won the title on PPV, the WWF would only do block tapings after PPV so I guess you could say that the timing for them to 're-think' was perfect
