In the light of some potential starters tomorrow, I thought it might be a good thing to have a seperate thread for giving accounts of our 8 eclectic qualifiers over the winter, right here. Let the tales of woe, and banditry to the extreme, commence...

Now that it is getting tight at the top and close to the finish I am not going to post any leaderboard updates to avoid the temptation of a magic pencil.

grumps,
apparently we're back on main greens so i'll nominate this morning and tomorrow mornings games as rounds 5 and 6 -- provisionally as the temperature is set to drop today and tomorrow so wouldn't be surprised if we were back on temp greens. (over protection but heres hoping it means a good summer!)
cheers

not great from an eclectic point of view, but really pleased with my game today. shot a steady 75, with dropped shots on 1, 5, 6, 7 & 16 but pars everywhere else other than a couple of birdies. only improvement was a par on the 12th i think. i'll send through details after tomorrows game grumps. on 16 main greens today which was fantastic after being on temps for what seems like ages. got my fingers and toes crossed we dont get any overnight frost before tomorrows game.

Re: Tell us about your 'Eclectic' game today...
No improvement over Saturday's play. But I did play in strong winds, snow, some sunshine & from the back tees.
I did manage however to get my driving back. So this will help in the coming season.

Morning Grumps
Well another giant leap forward for me after being a bit tentative off the first tee and losing a shiny new ball in the pond 50 yards in front of the tee.
One hole improved on and will mail scores over but with 2 holes still to par hope to get a few more under before the close.
Can you put me down as rd5 this Sunday please though might try to sneak in another on Saturday if weather's good - will let you know.
Cheers.

Ah well might as well nominate Sunday for my final round. Not played that well since the enforced snow break, so not really holding out much hope. But then again; you never know

Did you play in edinburgh today?
I went up just to play a few holes and it was about a 3 club wind, a bit tough at this stage in the season for me. Me distance control was about as good as tigers has been.

yep. very mixed bag though. the wind was a factor but less so than the waiting game we're playing for our first child - my head was anywhere but the golf!

So a few more have run their race and the leaderboard is starting to bunch quite tightly. Setup is joined at the top by JDandfries. We're about to enter the business part of the competition, time and rounds are running out. Is March going to be known as moving month? Who will go onto take the spoils and bask in the winter eclectic glory?
On another note, kudos to Nay Bother: finally troubling the scorers

Hi Grumps
Made up another couple of shots on Sunday though still not the two missing pars which is starting to add extra pressure on the respective tees.
After finding the pond last week off the first tee managed to lay up in front of it this week which, given it's only 50 yards away, isn't my intended option. Think my warm up needs to be a bit more than getting the clubs out of the car!
Will be trying to get game 6 in on coming Saturday please.
Score pm'd over in a mo.

Turnip, maybe you and Nay Bother should start the next rounds off the 10th. Both of you are having a difficult start off the first.
I'm guessing you must be in with a shout of your clubs long drive contest.

Re: Tell us about your 'Eclectic' game today...
nb, its pretty intolerable for her. impatience and pain rising with each day that passes.
a bit better on the golf course today. bit of a cheeky start - halved the first two holes with my regular 4bbb partner courtesy of a 25 foot putt on the first, and a chip-in on the second... both for pars. steady par on the tough third, then the wheels fell of a bit, gifting the fourth away thanks to an untimely double bogey 7. pulled things together again with a couple of pars on 5 & 6. pushed my tee shot into some trouble on the 7th, but managed to snake a 5iron round some tree trunks and below the branches from about 150 to find the dancefloor. this was followed by the highlight of the round: holed a good 60-70 footer (25 paces, so whatever that equates to!), to sneak a half from under the nose of my partner - he had a shot, and promptly missed his 10 foot birdie putt. rest of the round went ok, though i dropped a few shots to sloppy play. nice couple of pars on 11 and 12, generally the toughest holes on the course, disapointing to have missed the 20ft and 10ft birdie chances though. finished strongly enough to win our wee match 3&1. not great on the scoring front, but enjoyable all the same.

Nice weather we had in Nottingham yesterday....not. P*ssed it down all day, course waterlogged, no golf .
Still, not all bad as I got roped in to putting up curtain(s) by the missus instead .

Morning Grumps
Got round 6 in on Saturday on a lovely afternoon...and that's about it. Two missing par holes - missed a three footer on the first one to make bogey again and on the second (our 13th) lovely 4 iron to 12 foot above the hole, scented a 2 shot improvement and promptly put first 4½ feet past and missed the return
Did birdie the 4th for the third time so can I swap one of these for a missing par please???
Shan't bother sending the scores as no improvement anywhere. When's the last date to count?

Re: Tell us about your 'Eclectic' game today...
Declaration of intent.
Playing the King's @ Gleneagles, this Saturday,(10th March) so no play for the eclectic.
So my 2 remaining scoring events should be Saturday 17th March & Saturday 31st March.
I played yesterday early doors (7.30), but never declared, would have picked up a shot I think as I played reasonably well, for not hitting a ball in a fortnight.

Got some more scores to add and will probably do that tonight whilst waiting for the missus's flight to land. Any takers this weekend?

I'll take my final round tmrw.had a bit of time away from the course what with all that was happening at home so not expecting much.played ten holes this afternoon and was a little better than expected (7 GIR pars - dropped 4 shots on the three par 3s though). Thing is l,i've only got time for two rounds befpr the deadline and don't want the distraction of The eclectic (prestigious event though it is!) for my season opener next Saturday . Tomorrow it is then - wish me luck (i'm going to need it to catch the uncatchables up front!!)
« good...that's my excuses out of the way then!!»

More scores have been added to the leaderboard and I shall keep you guessing as to your final position.
The closing date for those with a few rounds to go is next Saturday, March 31. Good luck Grumps.
Oh, and by the way Ban, there is nothing, nothing more prestigious that the winter ecelctic title. That's you docked a two shot penalty for insolence.

Just as well i finished with a tidy 10 shot improvement then...
Seriously though very pleased with my game today. We were up against the group bandits in our league who are currently top, my partner had a mare but i was -2 to the 16th where we won it 3&2! Will send through the final card on tonight or tmrw. Got bitten a couple of times by the midges and legs have swollen up so off to the hospital tonight i think to get some antibiotics.

What was visibility like? I played the braids today and it times you could barely see 50 meters due to the fog.

Similar , though you could make out shadows of people on the green at approx 180yards away. Quiet helpful in a way as it made me focus on hitting the centre of the green each hole which probably helped my score a lot.We were expecting the claxons to sound at any minute the whole way round! The whole place had the atmosphere of an Andrei tarkovsky film.

Hi Grumps
Got my expected 7th round in yesterday but given the weather right now (20 odd degrees out there) I'll change my 8th to this afternoon if that's OK rather than 30th as originally planned - heaven knows what the weather will be like then.
Managed to par one of the missing two yesterday but missed another 3 footer on the 13th - it really is a hard green to putt on, honestly. Nothing else was an improvement, not a birdie in sight despite the weather.
Will send the 2 days scores through this evening.
Cheers

Well, last 2 rounds completed, one shot made up and another missed 3 footer on the same hole - 8 bogeys in 8 attempts!
Did have 2 "firsts" though. Walking up the first had a cry of Fore from the second tee and ball then bounced next to me before disappearing into my bag. Good way to meet a new member...
Then on short 10th looking to make a birdie with sand wedge in hand hit my second all over the flag and thought I might get an elusive slam dunk. Sadly rather than all over the flag it and a tap-in 3 it ended up pitching in the flag and was thrown 12 feet left of the hole and another par ensued.
Oh well, been fun trying.
