Yes, maybe. I suggested ages ago that we should have a few sub-sections to the golf board (i.e. equipment, tour talk, courses, books etc) but no-one seemed to want it or like the idea.

YES siree. A very good idea.
Also need a D4S section, for anything else section. Or just call it simply D4s Section.

Re: Tell us about your 'Eclectic' game today...
Hi Grumps
Please put me down for my first attempt on this Saturday - we've got part2 of the Club's England v Scotland matches (first in April for St Georges day). Surprising number of Scots this far down south though they do drag in anyone that likes to try and give the English a kicking (Welsh, Irish, Aussies you name it, even a few disaffected English).
Is it possible to put down for a tentative game 2 on Sunday as well? Tentative as it's a bit of a rollup and we sometimes play Greensomes which wouldn't obviously count and sometimes better ball which could - won't know until I turn up Sunday presuming I've not drunk myself into a stupor on Saturday evening.

Ray, no. There's a thread towards the bottom of page 1 called 2011/2012 606v2 Winter Eclectic Rules and Entries (sorry not clever enough to post link) that will have lots of the details.
Basically I need a mock up of your card, par for each hole, SI, SSS, handicap. When you're going to play a counting round just PM, email or post to this thread your intentions. We do this to stop people playing a round that was rubbish and "forgetting" to submit or playing a great round and then retrospectively adding it.
I'll PM you my email so you have it. Good luck Grumpy

Re: Tell us about your 'Eclectic' game today...
After reading on another thread about winter greens and bucket holes, I take it only rounds played on the 'proper' course are acceptable in the eclectic?
That is the rule that applies for my club eclectic and those are the cards I'm submitting for the 606 one as well.

I would like to think so D4S although we never really discussed this in the rules.
What would a fair adjustment be? Knocking a couple of shots off of handicap or SSS? SSS is being used to equalize the different courses

Oooh dunno, my course plays considerably easier when we go onto winter greens and bucket holes, at least 4-5 shots easier.

I raised the 'bucket hole, temp green, bag of pants' issue with Oldshanker last year and it was decided to allow temp greens. However, I agree with D4S, I don't think we should count scores on those holes as it's more like bloody croquet than gold imho...

simple solution would be to add 0.25 to any score on a winter green. over 18 holes that would amount to 4.5 strokes. our course hasn't gone to winter greens yet, but i imagine we will in 3-4 weeks time. i probably won't be able to submit the full 8 cards if there isn't something put in place to allow play on them. note, we don't use cissy bucket cups [!].

Re: Tell us about your 'Eclectic' game today...
how big are these "bucket holes"?
we dont get to use them in our club unfortunately but when we do to to temp greens the course plays quite short as we play off winter tee boxes (like astro turf) which are nearly always right at the front of the tee box.

I like the idea B_B, you birdie a par 3 for a two and a quarter!
Do all greens go onto temps or just some?
For holes that change how about the average score from all rounds?
I can see why OldShanker kept quiet now when Davie asked the question this year.

Re: Tell us about your 'Eclectic' game today...
Yep Grumpy - Also, pars made on temps would count as +0.25 over par, and bogeys +1.25 over par. Basically it would act as an equalisation factor as opposed to altering course sss's which would be subjective and tricky to assess.
For example, my final eclectic score might contain 12 scores from normal greens and 6 from temps... or it might be 15 from normal, 3 from temps... who knows - trying to adapt a sss for this would be impossible, especially when you combine this with the fact that week on week the temps that are in play could vary from hole to hole as well.
So long as holes are not more than about 50 yards shorter, the par would generally stay the same anyway - only the difficulty getting there is reduced - the difficulty holing out is increased thanks to the crappy putting surfaces though! Anyone who played on a course which had temps on throughout would have an extra 4.5 strokes added to their gross score (0.25 per hole) before hcp reductions etc.
Ours have been on full greens up to now. I've just checked the 'current course conditions' phone line and today our 17th (par 5) is on a temporary green, which probably means it will be tomorrow as well (thankfully i've already got that birdie in my bag). It may be the case that they decide to keep some full greens on throughout, or not.
What you really need is a relitively straight forward way to apply this - fiddling with the sss would cause a bit of a headache as some rounds you may play the full course, some full temps, some a mixture. As would your suggestion of average score from all rounds, and this wouldn't really constitute an eclectic anyway - as the odd 8 or 9 scored on a really bad hole would completely throw your score for that hole.

2nd round completed today, the 8th hole was out of play for maintenance so the par 5 9th was converted into a par 4 and a par 3. I've discounted my scores on 8th and 9th. A decent round today, 4 over without holing any putts so it was a 'what might have been' round. Still, improved my score by about 4 or 5 shots from my first card so a pretty good day

Thanks D4S. GM got you down for your round.
I'm not sure we're ever going to find a solution that fits all as we have different courses that will be played under different conditions. If we discount temps then that could severely hamper some people. If we include them then that could make it a lot easier for others
I think if people indicate which holes are temps I can see to what extent this will have an effect after a few more rounds.

I can see why OldShanker kept quiet now when Davie asked the question this year.
As happened last year 1GG, if players are not able to submit cards because they are on temp greens, then they will probably struggle to get the full 8 rounds in, especially if there is a chunk taken out for bad weather (I assume you've got your old tennis rackets on your feet already)!
I seem to remember my answer to this was - everyone plays the course that is in front of them, and take the breaks rough or smooth as they come.

No snow yet, thank God, (sorry SR) did have some flurries on the car this morning. Playing tomorrow on a shotgun start, which will help the course get everyone round, but will still probably experience a frost delay.

Well played first eclectic round today. Not great - but mitigating circumstances. Hungover and they've slit the greens this week, it's like putting on corrugated cardboard! I know it's for the long term good, but short term it's awful.
Mind you having read the comments about winter greens, it seems like we must something right at our club cos we are normally on main greens all year but still manage to have some of the best greens in the area!

Re: Tell us about your 'Eclectic' game today...
My first round today - maybe should have stayed in bed! Actually I seriously considered it as I'd been struggling with "man-flu" for a day or 2 but woke up this morning feeling like I'd give it a try.
First 9 (starting off the 10th) was much better than I expected considering the way I felt - not great in eclectic terms with only one gross par, but 7 nett pars (and one NR) meant 17 points which I was happy with.
2nd nine and the man-flu started to kick back in again for a pretty woeful back nine. At least it means I've got plenty to improve on tomorrow if I don't have a relapse and turn back into a basket case again!

Still waiting for some scores to come in but here goes:
Name. Rounds. Score
Maverick. 2. -10
Theshanker. 2. -5
Ban_ban. 1. -4
Drive4show. 2. -2
Oldparwin. 1. -1
To save blushes for all others you have work to do
Mav is setting an early marker for all to try and follow. Must be playing some Mickey mouse pitch and putt.

Well first of the two parter weekend out the way and not a bad start. Didn't stay as long at after match (Scot v Eng) as thought so hopeful for tomorrow too. Couple of birdies and one double to shoot level handicap and win our game on 17th gives something to build on though Mav seems out or reach already.

Re: Tell us about your 'Eclectic' game today...
Huh? My first round was +14 off my 17 handicap yet the leaderboard implies I'm over par. Not sure I follow Grump?

Maverick. 2. -10
Theshanker. 2. -5
Ban_ban. 1. -4
Drive4show. 2. -2
Oldparwin. 1. -1
To save blushes for all others you have work to do
Mav is setting an early marker for all to try and follow. Must be playing some Mickey mouse pitch and putt.
How come I'm not on the leaderboard?
I was -2 in my only round to date.

Merc, you may have shot 2 under your regular handicap and to par but this is off of SSS and 3/4 handicap. Still have plenty of time to get under par.

Ah that explains my question too Grumps. Didn't realise it was 3/4, although I've no doubt you said. Soz!
