Our own "Off Topic" thread
First topic message reminder :
Browsing around other sub-forums I've noticed that a lot of the sections have their own "off topic" thread. Although there are complete "off topic" sections of the website where everyone can get together and "shoot the breeze" it seems that some sections like to be able to have a chat thread just amongst themselves, so here's one for us.
The other sections have a variety of names for this concept - often calling them "pub threads" where anything can be talked about. This also helps keep other (in our case, golf related) threads on topic. If anyone has a more original idea for a name for the thread let me know and I'll change it (the 19th hole?)
Just to start off, for those of us here in golf who also like music, check out the little contest in the music sub-forum (under media on the home page). This is a little fun contest where 10 of us have volunteered to name one song a week under a particular category. Everyone on the site then gets to vote for a song (no one but the organizer knows who nominated each song). The first poll is up for this week with the category being "Dance Music" - something I know nothing about but I picked a song anyway. This little comp will only work if we get plenty of people casting votes to see whose choice is the most popular so please check it out if you have a spare moment and cast your vote.

Just snort sherbert instead of coke and try not to look the midget in the eyes (it means you want them).

Going off on a tangent. I think Charlie Sheen should start a cult.
Americans are pretty into their cults anyway and I think this one could easily become large enough to become a recognised religon.

Re: Our own "Off Topic" thread
Just a bit of info please on this off topic thread:
Today, I was visited by a young, (late 20's) female sales representative. She was explaining a plastic collar that is used to secure a tip firmly in place. She was floundering about trying to find a name for it. I, quite correctly I believe, called it a flange (dictionary def. a projecting rim, collar, or ring on a shaft), at which she fell apart in a useless heap, nearly wetting herself.
When she had pulled herself together, she said where she comes from (Brighton), a flange is something very different. I have absolutely no idea what she meant, can anyone enlighten me?

OS - She may have thought you said "Falange" which is far more dangerous, though admittedly doesn't cause many people to laugh as previously described! I believe it is fairly prominent in Brighton!!!!

I thought arsebanditry was rife in brighton and that flange was less required.

I've heard you've been called a bandit in your time - is that the same thing you are talking about?
Re: Our own "Off Topic" thread
Similar. In brighton it usually takes the bandits a few more shots to hole out however

He could get that tattooed on his ass
Factoring in that he is a mentalist, would he not be more likely to get it tattooed on his johnson?
Apparently he has already got a tatt on his Old Boy. Sometimes it just reads ABC and on other occasions it reads ABRACADABRA

Re: Our own "Off Topic" thread
Medal tomorrow, starting to get excited already! Played last weekend, the greens were in remarkably good shape for beginning of March. We've had a decent week down here weatherwise so hoping they will be cut in the morning and rolling quite nicely.
We were off the greens for 6 weeks or so due to the snow and also quite a lot recently due to frost. This seems to have done them a power of good as they have a nice healthy covering of grass. It's all boding well for a good summer. Lot of pressure on the greenkeepers this year as we are hosting the Carris Trophy.
What is everyone else up to?

I had a chipping lesson on Wednesday. Most bizarre experience hitting a whole bucket of balls and the furthest one went 10 yards
Before anyone says anything, thats a full 5 yards less than my normal drives :run1:

Still not sure what to make of the flange/falange issue then.

Re: Our own "Off Topic" thread
Played it once. You have to cross the a406 to get from clubhouse to course. It crosses itself constantly. And theres an open sewer running through it in a concrete canal type of thing.
Once was one time too many.

Re: Our own "Off Topic" thread
Had my lesson this afternoon. Going back to basics at my request. Grip change, shoulder alignment and hand position to start.
Going to be hard work but it was so ugly on video that its the right thing.
Also.... He thinks i'm losing power its so nasty and that i have more yardage in me. That could be interesting.

Yep - that's what my dear ol' Dad used to say to me.
'Get the grip and alignment right, and then the swing will take care of itself, 'cos the point of impact will be correct!'
Although point of impact wasn't the term he used, I think it was more along the lines of 'when you smack it up the *rse, it'll have no choice but to go straight!'
Can't wait to see your power gain. LJ
As a point of interest - I regripped a club today for the first time in 50 odd years of playing the game. Can't understand why I haven't done it before, it is simple.

Re: Our own "Off Topic" thread
Shanker. Impact and downswing/throughswing is excellent. Impact is good. What we're going to work on is a consistent backswing to encourage a strong resistance leading to a fast through the ball position with no effort.
He thinks 20-40 yards on the driver. And i'll probably deloft the irons as its launching higher.
I think it'll be scary.

YIKES!
If you are launching your irons higher, they must be coming down with ice on them. I mean you hardly trouble the rabbits along the ground now do you!
Ah well that means it'll take me even more shots to get up with your drives, mind you, you quite often didn't need the driver, has your new club got more driver holes?

Not really. But there are a few driveable 4's. The day i played it and walked off i was more or less on 4 of them. And 20 yards short of another which was 370 (but downwind and doglegged)

Me thinks you are getting a bit excited mate. You are starting to sound like those guys on computer games forums who make up ridiculously hight scores they have achieved.
40 yards gain, the pro is laughing behind your back.

i can see another 20 yards in there. I'm in such poor positions that I am losing a lot of yardage, particularly on the driver.

Re: Our own "Off Topic" thread
For those of you who don't venture out of thegolf section much, you may be intereted in a fortnightly "pub quiz" that Legend runs over on the games and quizzes section - https://www.606v2.com/t1457-the-official-pub-quiz-now-open
It's just a bit of fun and no prizes; peolpe are encouraged NOT to use google (though obviously this can't be enforced) - give it a go and have a bit of fun - you have all day today (Friday) to PM your answers to the question master Legend
