Matt Scott and Dumper Denton still injured, Ross Ford, Tim MacVisser (altho little brother Sepp plays) Le Jones, NDL and Grant Gilchrist rested from the pack after their heroics vs RM, Lozada takes a break on the bench with Turnbull packing down with the returning-after-ban Sean Cox, Andy Kelly back from injury, (good)Godman gets his chance returning from a long injury, Traynor and Gilding not the strongest front row, with Hislop and Niven as cover. Jim Thompson moves to OC to make way for Mossy, and Tom Brown moves to the wing for Jones. Youngsters Leonard and Hunter on the bench will hopefully get some more gametime to continue with their development

Have seen the tries but don't have the time to watch the whole game. Can people tell me what they thought of O'Dea?

Munsty, I posted a bit about him in the pub. He looked threatenign with the ball but didn't get a whole lot. Was solid definsively and his positioning was pretty good aswell. He looked to have a decent kicking game too.

I thought he was only out for 3-4 weeks and that he was progressing well?

Re: Munster vs Edinburgh
Poor young Jack Gilding was given a man-beasting by veteran Marcus Horan - don't think he managed parity even at a single scrum.

Re: Munster vs Edinburgh
Odea was poor enough defensively (a little bit inexperienced) but attacling he looks very promising.
When Earls comes back he will go to oc as he is munster and irelands next best. The criticism of him is that he cant link with others but no one seems to remember a young bod couldn't pass a ball for love nor money but developed over time.
Why say the back three is between hurley, howlett, jones, zebo, murphy and earls when we have numerous combinations in midfield and the back three available.
Best backline for munster for me ( with options)
Jones/hurley/Murphy
Howlett/
Zebo/hurley
Earls/ mafi
Chambers/ barnes
Rog/ keatley
Tol/murray
Some good options, plus you have deasy, odea, and others coming through

I used to think Deasy had a lot to offer now I dont see it. I think Hanrahan will cover 10 and 12 in two years or so when ROG is gone
Re: Munster vs Edinburgh
Maybe stag but he is a very intelligent footballer, along the lines of john o'kelly, he will never be world class but still a handy squad player like billy holland

Re: Munster vs Edinburgh
Ah yea hes handy to have but I see him being 3rd choice #10 and about 5th choice fullback .
Re: Munster vs Edinburgh
Dont disagree but he is a player who can do a job no matter where he is played
Also the backrow was very solid. I think we will see more of holland and butler this year
All about the squad. And a lot more positive than three weeks ago.. Life goes on in Munster..same as it always was, we might not have the underage, schools sides but we do have it where it counts

Re: Munster vs Edinburgh
Agree in full. Our depth is really excellent. No Flannery, Wallace, Earls or Jones but still beat Saints and win away in France.

Sadly there's nothing behind Cross and Chunk at Edinburgh, so games in which they are rested will have to be played without a platform.
It's not as if Horan is a particularly devastating scrummager either.
I called the result but was disappointed with the scoreline. I thought there would be enough nous and experience in the Edinburgh line-up to compete more closely.
Looks like Munster are well stocked for the next generation.

I hope your wrong here,Earls can do a decent job at 13 but he's such a good winger I'd hate to see him moved again.
At the end of last season your back 3 of Earls,Howlett and Jones was electric, they were so dangerous on the counter attack.I'd love to see them reunited for a decent length of time they could do some real damage.

Re: Munster vs Edinburgh
I agree, not a big fan of Earls at 13. Ireland don't have a 12 to provide the required balance to have Earls at 13 in any case.
Personally I think he's such a good back three player I wouldn't move him.

Re: Munster vs Edinburgh
fES, watching back on the BBC Alba iPlayer, aside from the period when the two YCs were in force, there wasn't, arguably, a great deal between the two teamsfunnyExiledScot wrote:AsLongAsBut100ofUs wrote:Poor young Jack Gilding was given a man-beasting by veteran Marcus Horan - don't think he managed parity even at a single scrum.

Re: Munster vs Edinburgh
I agree with FES and Leftshouler, Earls at 13 would be a bad idea for Musnter and Ireland IMO
