just to show how welcoming a bunch we can be, here's a thread for us to welcome new members to the golf section. i found when making my first few posts that it could be a little awkward trying to find my feet with some of the regulars here - so here's an opportunity for you to say hey and get a cuddle in return

Good thread ban_bam
I'll take the opportunity to say to the new people, ie Mary, ESMD (what does that stand for?), Cashy, that its not too late to enter the Eclectic comp. See ban's thread on it
Plus we're planning a meet up in the Spring I think. D4S (RIP) had a thread going and hopefully he'll be back soon to finish organizing it

*nervously peeks in*
Hi, I am linka, I was supposed to enter links as my username but my sausage fingers combined with my inability to type ensured I now have a name that makes no sense.
I have always enjoyed watching golf but it is only in the last couple of months that I have had the time and the disposable income to begin playing myself.
I am based in Dublin and recently joined a club so 2012 will be my first full year playing.

linka - ask the admins nicely and they'll change your username for you! You may need to make something like 5 posts before you can send private messages to them but maybe they'll see this here and change it for you anyway!

Welcome aboard Linka/Links - from a relative newbie. Have to say that I have found everybody to be very friendly and helpful.
MPB - Cheers, I think that I am in the Eclectic, it's just that with 4 loops of 9, I haven't managed to play my nominated 18 yet. Will start getting some scores in a.s.a.p.

Mary, nice one. You're just letting everyone else make a start so you know what you need to do right?
Cashy and Del, just email Grumpy Golfer (you'll find posts by him on banbams eclectic thread) or I'm sure if you post on that thread saying you'd like to join in it will get picked up

Re: new members love-in
Cashy, Del Boy, linka/links (whatever you want to be called) and ESMD. Welcome to the golf boards.
I have the dubious pleasure and honour of running the winter eclectic competition. It started way back in the days of yore of graphite shafts and massive putters of 2010. The idea was to keep the golf boards from going quiet by encouraging everyone to play 8 rounds of golf over the winter. From those eight rounds your best score for each hole is cherry picked to give you the best ever round of golf. Your handicap is then added into the equation and some other jiggery pokery (patent pending) is included in the mix and I decide (judge's decision is final and all that) what your final score is.
After playing each round you're invited to regale us with tales of golfing brilliance and how you also managed to scupper a great round by losing a ball, 4 putting or playing carp on the "Tell us about your eclectic today" thread. Being technically challenged, or seeing as we have my brother Del Boy, a Rodney I can't or won't link it. Golfing brilliance generally earns a bandito smiley next to your name and maybe a handicap revision (see judge's decision above)
A weekly (ish) leaderboard is updated by our good friend Ban_Bam Currently scores show those who are under par and there are a few reasons why you might not appear at first:
You haven't started yet
You didn't submit your scores
You haven't played enough to get into negative numbers
Or
Your golfing inepitude means you're not really troubling the leaders
After all this joyful information you're either bored or can't wait to join in the fun. So how do you do this. PM or email the details of your course. I need:
Par for each hole
SI for each hole
SSS for tee boxes you will play
Handicap
Armed with this information I add you into the complicated whirly gig spreadsheet and post your scores.
If you want to a round to count, email, PM or post to Eclectic thread your intentions. This is to prevent "forgetting" to submit a bad round and retroactively adding in a great round. After said round email or PM your scores to me and then join in the tales of joy and woe. As you can see much joy and fun is had by all.
Except me

Hi guys
I have been a long time viewer on this place as well as a few others. This is my first toe in the water though. Had a read through the announcement piece and saw that Drive4show, Diggers, Doc and Mercurio are gone this seems a shame as ikve enjoyed reading comments by those guys. I decided to dip my toes in the wate as I like articles by your Kwini and Maverick on tour issues and some of the general stuff seems real good. Would be interested in knowing how us new guys join the fantasy league seems good.
By the way signed up here having heard good things about the place having played in a club v club friendly game against Maverick a month or too back.
Here's my list of about me:
Handicap - 10
Club - deangate ridge (municipal course)
Favourite course - TPC Scottsdale
Course I would most like to play but haven’t UK – St Andrews
Course I would most like to play but haven’t (overseas)- TPC Scottsdale
Favourite golf course architect – I'm new to this so don't really know of any
Favourite player – Tiger Woods & Rickie Fowler
Favourite major – US open
Length of time playing golf – 5months properly. Before that only played twice and I hated it.
Time posting on 606v2 and predecessor’s – I'm new to actually posting
I've only been playing properly for 5 months when I was bought a set of golf clubs for my birthday. Coming from the states originally my first love is NFL and the Dallas Cowboys the team of my birthplace. My parents moved us to the UK when I was 15 due to dads work and moms willingness to take us where was best for the family. So I spent my years here playing BAFL for 2 different teams firstly I played for Maidstone Pumas then moved onto Kent Exiles, strange season they keep over here as now is pre-season I have decided to rejoin Maidstone Pumas as they look to rebuild the team.
I'm going to make a bold move and create my first thread asking for advice so hopefully you take this american lad to be one of your own and be gentle with me.

Re: new members love-in
Longtime lurker, two-time poster... Until now.
Handicap - 14
Club - Aquarius (of which more below).
Favourite course - TOC was my favourite golfing experience. Probably preferred the course at Muirfield though.
Course I would most like to play UK - Royal County Down
Course I would most like to play anywhere - Augusta
Golf course architect - I think I am pretty ignorant on golf course architecture but that Old Tom Morris chap has got a pretty good CV.
Favourite player - McIlroy
Favourite major- The Open
Links or Parkland - Links
Length of time playing golf - 7 years
I think it is fair to say that my club is unique. It is a 9 hole course laid out on top of a covered reservoir in South East London. It is squeezed on to a small plot of land in between houses on all four sides and you would not know it was there unless you were looking for it.
It is run by volunteers on a shoestring budget, yet the condition is always pretty good. The greens are true (although generally slow) and whilst they are limited as to what hazards can be incorporated(it is built on a reservoir!), there are some challenging holes.
The club runs a full fixture list and is incredibly friendly. You often have the course to yourself, although if there is a big field for the monthly medal, the constraints for space really show. And the views over the City from the clubhouse are fantastic. I only wish I could play there more often.

Welcome to all the new posters - great to have you on board!
As per Mac's template:
Handicap - 6
Club - Duddingston, Edinburgh
Away club – Fortrose & Rosemarkie, The Black Isle
Favourite course - not really played any of the biggies yet. i'd say the course i always look forward to returning to would be Alyth - many enjoyable hours spent there when needing a break from university studies. F&R can also be pretty idyllic on the odd occasion there's less than a 3 club wind.
Course I would most like to play but haven’t UK – Kingsbarns
Course I would most like to play but haven’t (overseas) – not really fussed, I enjoy my golf at home, never had the means to travel and that's fine by me.
Favourite player – Duffy Waldorf
Least liked player – Gmac
606 nemesis – dunno, will have to work on that one
606 best buddy – MPB's always brown-nosing me with my new threads ( ) so I guess it's he.
Favourite major – The Open
Links or parkland – Links
Length of time playing golf – 12 years
Time posting on 606v2 and predecessor’s – more or less 2 years
As per Mac's template:

Least liked player – Gmac

Re: new members love-in
I follow someone who was in discussion with you guys (Ben Kerr). You were talking about the Olympics and amateur golfers. So I thought I would check you out.
I cant see a thread on it - am I being thick?
