Caldwell has been mentioned as a potential target because of the new NIQ rules coming in 2013/2014. Havent seen many Leinster lads who want it though. Hes seen as a bit of a loose cannon after his time at Ulster. Think Leinster might pick up one of the young Munster locks
English born and lived here all my life, but my mums family is all irish and my dad is Irish so have been influenced by that and now see myself as Irish.
Yeah, Nagle might be one to be considered to move especially since his lack of development since his stnadout performance against Aus ( apparently he looked top class), but to be honest other than that my knowledge of younger provincial players is limited.
Heard some people talk of McLaughlin moving to 2nd row, is that a realistic proposition?

English born myself, English father but the mother is Irish and I've been living over here for the past 18 years.
McLaughlin can definately do a job there but couldnt see him becoming more then good club standard. Nagle is a prospect but theres a young lad named O'Callaghan (v2) who looks like he could really come on. Neither are getting much game time though and would be good options for Leinster. Could be good business with Rhys Ruddock looking like going the other way

Pooly is taking all of you for a ride anyway, every season, every different game he gets what he wants and you just sit back and let him do his stuff. He demanded Toulouse on the ERL or he wouldn't play, we all knew they were the best team and that he was gonna win the league, well I did not sure about others.
He will only play on his terms, he has to get the teams he want's or he doesn't want in. You probably demanded Leicester in this game aswell as you created it, having on paper the best team in the league add a few world class players and you easily win.
Honestly there is no point playing in games which involve Pooly, he will just win easily and whatever he demands he get's.
You fools let him be whoever he wanted, without making it fair for all you others. As you were drawing teams in ERL Season 5, Pooly probably didn't want to play as he knew he wouldn't get the team he wanted.
You are about in your 30's, 40's so you have experience and you know what you are doing, but the youngsters in this game can't see that.
Why didn't you take someone like Worcester or Newcastle Pooly?
You are a total and utter idiot, every game he has played he has won, because he demanded that he has the best team or he wouldn't want to play.
Get a grip mate and act your age.

A flanker that is a hit and miss tackler, no good on the deck.....he's our best 7?!?!

Loving Garvey Nick, really dynamic. Takes the ball at a stand still and still makes ground.
Robson & Saull are miles and miles from Int rugby. If Saull hadn't have done that chase I was going to say he was the worst player I've ever seen in an England shirt.
Mullen, PDJ + Garvey should be in EPS.
Garvey subbed!!!!

Re: Aviva Premiership Season 1 - Homepage
So, had a few looks at the saxons game. Thought it was strange that Banahan got taken off so early. Understand that May should be starting, but Armitage is so average these days and doesn't really seem to care, so would have made more sense taking him off. Having said that, it knows seems obvious that there was a plan involved to rest Banahan, as they knew he would be back in the EPS for the short term.
For me, there were little surprises in the game to be honest. Anyone that says the Saxons isn't a good measure of a player's quality is talking rubbish, because in that one game, we got a really good idea of who shows international promise and who is a good club player.
Mullan and PDJ scrummaged well against an average opposition
Saull again looked like one of those highlight players. ie, looks great in a montage with flashy stuff, but what else does he do?
Burns is still very flaky and his decision making is poor
Twelvetrees isn't the best thing since sliced bread and needs time
Armitage's head is alreayd in Toulon
Gaskell is a good player, but not a 6, lets hope he doesn't follow Croft's route
Garvey really did impress me, that was one surprise
Spencer and Garvey showed enough to impress, but players like Robson and 36 showed that hype around then is a little hyperbolic.
Harsh but fair?

Pretty fair, Robson motm was laughable really.
More concerning was the lack of anything resembling quick ball, we are so poor in the tackle area/breakdown the backs had nothing to feed off.

Re: Aviva Premiership Season 1 - Homepage
Agreed, seems to be a problem with lots of the teams in the prem, bar Glos, Saints, Quins, Tigers. Anyone on here a back row expert? What do we think the problem is? Is it that players now worry too much about being pinged for penalties, with refereeing too stringent / picky? Or is it that Irish teams are just born with the ability to slow ruck ball down? Leinster, Munster and Ireland are experts at this, legally or illegally

Re: Aviva Premiership Season 1 - Homepage
They reckon it's that the ref'd are more stringent in the prem, I don't buy this.
Our pack are generally gym fit but look lacking when put in a rugby pitch. We lack dynasim. Watch Leinster and their technique at clearing and providing clean ball is fantastic. Even the Wolfhounds had Henry etc who are strong and athletic. We have Saull who's like a wet fish, Gaskell similar. Robson who is as physical as our lass and Waldroum who's usually out of breath!
We lack technique and any kind if dynamic play around the tackle area, really worrying tbh

Re: Aviva Premiership Season 1 - Homepage
I'll agree with the 'gym fit' thing massively. One of my real bug bears. With my Bath bias hat on, but its the team I see live most obviously, players like Caldwell and Louw have been immense this year in fighting at the break down and making the gainline. To steal an NFL stat, their YAC (yards after first contact with tackler) must be great.
Those two aren't hugely physical players and wouldn't be considered enforcers, but they have great technique, great attitude and a big bit of heart. What concerns me is that they know they can't get international honours and this could easily let them take their foot off the gas, but actually, they play like demons and galvanise the team. Same with Luke Watson in the last two years. Why don't England have any players like this? Moody did this for most of his england career and the woodward era was built upon attitude and professionalism, I'd argue the set of players we have now are more talented, but don't have the application.
