He's not a great player - but for those that might struggle for England players during 6Nations - could be worth a punt.

Diamond has no leg to stand on.
was a clear penalty at that last scrum if you ask me.
we had the better of them at the scrum all game.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4 homepage
He said what he thought. Stupid to do it in such blunt terms without doubt and will pay for it.
I reckon he is as good as any DOR in the league atm. Him and Hanks is a top combo as DOR and Head Coach. For me it's between him and O'Shea for coach of the season (probably going to O'Shea as things stand)
He will become CEO of Sale as well as Director of rugby in February which will be interesting.

I can't think of an AP coach who isn't like that to be honest. Hava thought that about all pf them at some stage, especially Cockerill, Booth and the fella at Exeter.

I think Matt hit the nail on the head with the comment:
"Bet you love him if he is your coach but hate him if not"
I find him really annoying, the way he stomps up and down the terracing and comes across as really arrogant even in his demenour. Can't think of an Ap coach who winds me up as much as him.
But if he was at Falcons I'd probably love him!

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4 homepage
I suggest he is what is needed at most clubs, someone to be respected but feared. I can't remembered which game it was but he hung the players out the dry the day later in the press. I think it was Exeter when we through away 20 points to a side that if they were better than our own it wasn't by a huge margin and he went sick.
Made some cracking signings. Still smiling about Richie Gray, two more to come soon, if they are half as good as that I'll be pleased.

By all means be blunt in what you say, but he has publicly criticised and questioned the fitness and ability of the referee. Now I am pretty sure that Brendon Venter got a hefty ban for doing that, so I don't see why Diamond should be able to get away with it.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4 homepage
He thought Barnes had turnt up late, when Barnes had actually got there early, done an initial warm up, and was briefing the linesman in the Madejski hotel.
what he said about Barnes was out of order. can understand his frustration at losing to a late penalty, but it was a valid penalty. and to be honest, if we had of been more clinical and homer not missed 3 kicks, we could of won by more.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4 homepage
We lost to a late penalty at home to Bath, and it was a 50/50 call on the penalty, one of those where if it's given against you it seems harsh, but if was the other way round you'd want it give. Bath also spent most of the game offside which was never penalised.
I don't remember Toby Booth slagging the ref off after that one, so I don't buy into the idea that all coaches talk out of turn after losing games either.

Diamond might be getting a 3 month touchline ban for it so hardly getting away with it.
Haven't seen the penalty yet. Diamond knows the scrum pretty and if he has said something so strongly about it then he must think he is right. I know you have said you were dominating the scrum but each scrum has to be reffed on its own rather than with the preconception that one side will be more susceptible to concede pens than the other.

the old law firm that I used to work for was one of Bath's main sponsors - just had a text from one of my colleagues and they've said that Banahan hasnt been included in the team, and other surprise exclusion is Delon Armitage.
Has said that Marler is in, alongside Phil Dowson, Ben Morgan and surprisingly Calum Clark and Rob Webber.
Apparently they are still able to call up replacements for Flood, Deacon and Tuilagi and they wont be announced today.

I've been told Corbisiero is the only Irish player in the EPS.
Loads in the Saxons.
Dowson and Clark I would not want in the EPS.

Would have thought Clark would go straight into Saxons - think he's got tremendous potential and is top rate on the deck, big unit too.
Waldrom isnt in there, so assuming that Dowson will be no8 cover with Easter out. Personally think we could have done with Easter for the Scotland match. Has anyone else read that England are considering both Robshaw and Wood as a no8?
Sharples is only Gloucester player too.

Saull is a crazy inclusion really, have my doubts about Clark as a mobile flank too. Dowson offers good quality in numerous positions, I can understand the logic.

I am a huge Saull fan always have been. He has benched quite a bit due to the fact that Burger is near world class.
Saull great in attack at linking play, great line out option and a good defender.
As an out and out 7 he is probably the best we have.
Clark is really good player as well. when fit he was first choice for saints who are one of the top teams although that kind of defeats my argument about Dowson being gash. Although Dowson was not getting a look in when clark was fit this year

Saull is pretty average imo, he's got good pace but not a great defender and not great on the deck. I find his inclusion baffling with players like Gibson & Wallace better and younger.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4 homepage
I agree with you there Mat - think Saull went off the boil a bit last year and then BUrger took advantage to get his first team slot. Everytime I've seen Saull this year he has got better and better - one of the only out and out opensides who can play for England. All others are too young and have very little experience, so need to go through the Saxons.
Clark is a very good player, surprised at how much he has come on as I pointed out at start of season he had become first choice for Saints and then he broke his thumb and was out for 6 weeks. He's great on the deck, good ball carrier and gets around the pitch quickly - only issue I have with him is that he likes collecting yellow cards like a ten year old collects panini sticker albums!
Can't see what more Narroway has to do to get included! When Waldrom wasnt included thought that he would be instead.

yeh Clark is a BS not an OS.
Saull isnt that good in defence look at how many tackles he misses, too many for a flanker.
Narraway is a good AP player but for me not Int. Class, doesnt do enough dirty work.

I would have Saull way ahead of Wallace who has played a few games.
Look at how Saull played against quins the other week. Saull is a great defender and does work on the deck. an out and out 7 which Gibson is not. I always praise Gibson to the hilt but he is not a 7

when does Saull miss tackles???
The only ones i have seen him miss are when he is chasing the ball at full tilt when the 10 has kicked through which its easy to get done as you are at full pace.

read it on that opta stats thing, he was near the top if i remember correctly it was something like 11 this season.
at least i am pretty sure it was saull, could be wrong apologies if i am.
luke has the link to that site with the stats.
no suprise hopper was near the top of missed tackles. suprisingly barritt was quite high too.

Saull verses Quins made 14 tackles and missed 6, that's hardly the stats of a good openside.

Saull has stagnated a bit, largely due to the form of Burger.
He's a good player and better than those stats, but needs gametime to prove himself again.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4 homepage
stats don't give a full picture of a game at all and all open to the interpretation of the person watching it. Im sure I read that Barrit was high up on the tackle miss count, does that make him a bad defensive 12?
for example, you can't tell from those stats if Saull missed a tackle because he was at full tilt and instead slowed the ball carrier down for his teammates to tackle, or whether he missed head on collision type tackles.
Last few games I've seen him in he's been very good, be interesting to see who has been named for Sarries at OS in the Heineken.
Pretty sure Calum Clark has played most of his rugby at 7 this season, with Wood at 6 and either Dowson or Wilson as no8. He's a good player to have around because he's another natural leader type player, a lot of the England squad that looks set to be picked are that type - Hartley, Wood, Robshaw, Dowson, Clark - all good leaders - wonder if that's what Lancaster is trying to get - also think 1/4 of the squad is from Saints, so could be looking to build the team around them for continuity sake.
