Maybe judging Fitzgerald on his form for Ireland?? He wasn't great in WC. Been playing excellent for Leinster though.

Kidney can also select from the 22 players selected to play for the Wolfhounds against England for their first game.

Fitzy didnt go to the World cup Steve...
Right decision from Kidney. Leave Fitzy have the year at Leinster and keep his form up over the season then give him a crack during the summer. Ireland are fairly blessed on the wings at the moment

Ashton signed for Saracens apparently because of the opportunity to work with Andy Farrell. Should a current England coach be allowed to do this?

Would feel very angry at Saints. Provide 1/4 of the squad and then the coach is taking players to his own club. Independence from clubs needed by coaches I think.

Do you not think it could be the Wigan link? I imagine Farrell was a bit of a hero to Ashton coming through the ranks in league.

But has Farrell had much involvement with Ashton yet in his role as England coach? Agree the England coaches should be independent but can't see how Farrells role as a (temporary) England coach has allowed him to sway Ashtons decision when they wont be getting much face to face time till the EPS meet up next week? Plus the Ashton to Sarries rumour has been going on since before Lancaster and co's appointments hasnt it?

Hi Chaps.

Jones would be a great signing for glos. we tried signing him before he went to france years ago.

Not on much this week as in Denmark and Norway on work.

a pint in the harbour in Oslo was £16 last night. its enough to turn a man to water

thank god it was on expenses.

a nice dinner for 2 with a bottle of wine and a few beers came to just under £400. unbelievable.

They have oil in Norway and everyone seems to be ludicrously rich in Oslo.

Certainly not bringing my missus here for a weekend away.

think i will use the kebab house tonight to save my company a bit of money. Kebab will probably be about a million quid

Tuilagi moving to Japan, Skivington possibly to Irish. Didn't realise Miles Benjamin had signed for Leicester.

good typical leicester signing. they often buy players who are not england material but good club players to do a job depth so important for them. benjamin will finish off shed loads of tries

shame to see white hanging up his boots at end of season it will affect my bench!!!

Skivington has pretty much signed for us, replacement for Kennedy who is off to Toulon. Like for like really, Kennedy better in lineout, Skivington offers bit more round the park.

Nick think Skivs is a good signing for you he's played well for Tigers and when he plays week in week out he's a top player.

Heard that Saints are going to be using some of their money on getting rid of Ashton on either Luke Narroway (apparently talks are underway now) and also seeing whether they try and secure Ben Morgan. They need to replace Roger Wilson - so one of those two will step up.

Think Saints are one top standoff from being a top team in Europe - Lamb and Myler are good but think they fall a bit short in the big games.

Still don't know how Sarries are within the salary cap - read that Ashton was going to be on £250k per year - how do they get Smit, Brits, Borthwick, Joubert etc etc in their squad?

there are ways around it chris!

kennedy was our highest paid player, although still a good player he is probably just past his peak so offloading him makes sense and allows us to get more players in. skivington is going to be on a lot less so gives us more budget to strengthen elsewhere. gopperth hopefully next.

I'd say Saints are already one of the top sides in Europe myself, reaching the HC final surely points to this.

Skivington has never really impressed at Tigers and is behind Parling, Deacon, Slater and maybe Kitchener too. Be good for him to get a move and regain some form.

I know that Wasps are £100k short of the salary cap and we have arguably the smallest squad in the league, so when you see the likes of Tigers, Saints and Sarries with their squads you have to wonder how it is all enforced.

Did they ever pass the rule where a club could bring in a marquee signing that wouldnt count as part of the salary cap? Think that would help close the gap in Europe, but decrease the competitive in the AP, as would imagine the bottom 4 clubs couldnt afford a player in that way,.

Tigers have so many good locks they can afford to let Skivington go without it affecting them. Should work well with Garvey.

I think that rule does come in next season chris yeh. should help.

Would be a good mobile engine room that Nick, lineout would need some work but could be a good move.

Clubs are allowed 1 signing outside the salary cap but I think that player is not allowed to be already playing in the AP.

We could see some really interesting signings next season with McCaw, Nonu & Carter saying they may spend a season outside NZ.

we will only kick on and pick up form when our 13 players return from injury - sorry that's 14 with Tom Varndell out for three months!

our trouble is that we are always there or there abouts come 60minutes, but our bench just makes us worse and we lose momentum near the end and the squad's confidence is so low that you can see that they almost expect to lose.

du plessis was a good signing though - our backrow has looked good in recent weeks.

I imagine Robshaw will start 7 with Croft at 6, not ideal but with Wood out the only real option. Dowson more than likely on the bench, 7 is his worst position and I'd be seriously worried if it was Croft/Dowson on the flanks against Kelly Brown & Barclay.

Brown isn't such a problem we need to worry about counter acting him. He is great is his best but doesn't reach his best often enough for my liking. Never seen him really stand out at international level. Not saying it hasn't happened but I don't remember it.

Ferris and SOB however are a different matter. Need to have someone to take them out of the game. Similar how Joe Worsley was brought in to chop down Jamie Roberts down a few years ago. Not sure who I'd use though.

I don't think we need to target Brown but to go in with Dowson & Croft as our flankers at Murrayfield would be a mistake. Robshaw or even Clark has to start ahead of Dowson imo.

I think Brown is pretty darn good Steve , always impressed me when i'v seen him. Huge ball carrier and is pretty good at knocking some one off the feet!

I'd look for Robshaw to be the man to cut him down. Technique will conquer all at any level and Robshaw is fantastic at it.

Lots of reports the backrow Is going to be Croft, Clark and Robshaw at no8! They like Clark as he's over 18stone, hits hard and is good at stopping dynamic ball carriers like SOB

A lot will depend on how a few players fair this weekend - wouldny be surprised of sarries and saints provide 10 or more of the match day team

Think you may need to watch a few more Scotland games if that's your memory of Brown, I'd suggest you start with the Ire-Scotland game.

Seem to recall Pete having him down as the form BS in world rugby in 2010, I didn't mind.

Bad tactics by quins there - with that wind Evans just had to pin them back I their own 22 and get the penalties that would have come. They will be sick with not winning that.

What a win for gloucester though
