What score margin do you predict?
Ireland v Wales score prediction?
First topic message reminder :
What does everyone think the score will be when Ireland host Wales at the Aviva in just over 3 weeks time?
Wales have won twice in a row against Ireland which was quite frankly a miracle and hasn't happened since 1574. Ireland will do anything not to lose 3 in a row.
Wales struggle with expectation and everyone talking about them retaining their world cup form is going to be a hindrance rather than a positive. The 2010 match in Croke Park was one of the worst Welsh performances in recent years and think we could be in for a repeat.
Ireland 35-14 Wales

Two door cinema club are very good. The Blizzards and Delorentos are also well worth a listen.

My word the third page of posts and no word of VAN THE MAN, the most incredible artist to emerge from Ireland. I can not recall how many times I have seen him in concert and he never disappoints.

"Into the mystic" will always be one of my favourite songs...! He has given us so many others though too.

I once met Dave carton from the saw doctors at the spirit store in Dundalk. Top guy. Admittedly, whilst I like the saw doctors, I didn't have a clue who he was.
On subject, I'd say that Ireland will avenge their QF defeat to Wales in this 6N, I reckon they will beat us at twick as well

The Saw Doctors. Don't want to step on any sensitive toes and, let's face it, music preferences probably are the most sensitive. So, I know, everyone's ear is wired differently. But personally speaking, bad, bad memories of the Saw Doctors.
I remember when their first hit came out - can't even recall the name now - yeah "I used to Love her". I was working in a place, and it had a radio, and every 10 minutes, inbetween the 'funny' banter and phone in quizzes (yawn), 'I used to Love Her' would get a play. And this seeemed to go on and on for four or five months. Excruciatingly painful repetition... like the 'tap dripping' in a torture cell!

They're like Aslan for culchies. I'll never forget scoring a bird in Coppers and she started crying, god knows why but it made me so awkward I had to do something to lighten the mood, The Joyce Country Ceili Band came on and i just danced like the dancing priest form Father Ted until she got the message that i wasn't going to be sympathetic. That song saved my bacon.

with Mickado.
Phil Lynott - Thin Lizzy. He was essential to a young impressionable lad from Northside Dublin. Helped get me my 1st lay. Bless im.
Van The Man is taken as read. He's a Universal Poet.
Elvis Costello (Declan McManus) - another genius singer-songwriter. His Da (also a band leader) was a jazz sessionist with Joe Loss.
Morrissey - Irish Blood English Heart.
Sinead O Connor - voice of an angel. Head like a boiled-cabbage.
The Corrs - but not the brother.
And last but certainly not least - The magnificent Chieftans.
We are not taking this article seriously are we? Its just not good enough.

I blame Maesteg.
I don't remember that call being so silly in the last world cup hehe!
I kind of started off the Welsh and Irish bands subject. If you wish for me to choose my faves then it will have to be Stereophonics of Wales and BOYZONE of Ireland. Neither are my favourite all time favourite band though.

I like the Manics too, you can dance to their stuff like you can the 'phonics and Oasis. No Gibson, I am a man and I am not ashamed to admit I like Boyzone's music , just some of their older stuff though.
Depends how you define favourites Gibson. I think most bookies and pundits will be judging it by IRB rankings and club form. I have seen both squad and think Wales have the better squad. Ireland from 1-10 will be pretty tasty but behind that I think you are looking a bit thin. There is also only two props in the squad and I think our scrummaging unit is a bit stronger.

Re: Ireland v Wales score prediction?
Sorry Morgan , I was stereo-typing there bud.
Agree that Wales have the better squad right now. And an edge in the Front-row.
N.B. We have 3 props in the squad. Cian Healy, Mike Ross & Tom Court. With Paddy McAllister as backup.
If either of Ross(especially) or Healy, gets injured - we are f****D.

Re: Ireland v Wales score prediction?
Yeah, that was my error in thinking Tom Court was a hooker. Not only that, I think we will have a strong bench, I'm not saying it will be stronger than Irelands, but it should include a fresh front row. I would go for Gill, Owens and Mitchell. Then Ryan Jones and Tipuric. Those forwards may not start but are showing some good form.
Backs, Phillips or Williams (dependant on who starts) and behind that any two of our other backline players. Hook or Henson will likely feature here and a winger that can also play full back maybe .

Tycoes i agree
I think against Ireland he will want an experienced back 3 so if byrne is back in the slot i expect him to be picked with 1/2 on the wing.
Centre is an issue...god help us if JR isn't fit...but he won't pick GH at 12, defensively he is so far off the pace - ironic since he was defensive capt. Its a problem definitely and reveals our lack of depth. I just hope he doesn't slot Hook in there.
if Hook and Ryan bench expect to see 2 props; no Powell because ryan has to be on the bench...tipuric yes

JR not being fit for Ireland isn't the end of the world. Who do Ireland have there ? Earles ? JD2 is playing very well, as is Beck.

Re: Ireland v Wales score prediction?
Head tells me Ireland at home to win this one as there's nothing between the 2 teams and Ireland have home advantage.
Heart (plus the usual blind optimism) tells me Wales will win by about 7 or 8 points.
I just think that Ireland will be a bit slow out of the blocks for the opening game and we'll take advantage of it. Once we're in front early on and Ireland are chasing the game, they'll take more risks leading to more mistakes and despite a close run at the end, Wales will win.

4. Bradley Davies v POC - POC
5. Ian Evans v ? - ?
6. Lydiate v Ferris - Ferris
7. Sam the Captain v SOB - Sam because he is an out and out 7 (SOB in the loose though and less likely to spear tackle( sorry couldn't resist)
8. Faletau v Heaslip - Faletau (on recent form but Heaslip could step up for this one)
9. Mike Phillips v Reddan - Phillips better all round
10. Priestland v Sexton - Sexton (provided he gets good clean ball which is far from given)
11. Cuthbert v Trimble - Trimble
12. Roberts v D'Arcy - Roberts (assuming D'Arcy will still be there unfortunately)

15. Byrne v Kearney - Kearney
Scrum - Wales

Lineout - Ireland
Loose forwards - Ireland
Backs
Defence - Equal
Centers - Wales
Back 3 - Equal
Half backs - Equal ( think Ireland have the potential for better distribution and game management if they get good ball)
Gatland V Kidney - Gatland
SO - not much has changed since the last meeting. Will Ireland take the advantage of a home fixture, will Wales still be hungry after beating us in the world cup..... Can DK & Co come up with a game plan and squad selection to surprise us all?

No Fitz in the squad which I am surprised at - could this indicate Earls at utility sub and McFadden or Wallace at center.....?
With Cullen (and DOC) also in the squad despite there being others on better form I have a feeling that we are going to see more conservative rugby and unimaginative tactics from DK. Gatland will read this easily......doesn't look good.

Re: Ireland v Wales score prediction?
Those head to head comparisons are always a waste of time. Rugby is about combinations.
You can have a pack of outstanding individuals, but of the jumpers, lifters and hooker aren't in sync the lineout won't work, if the tight five doesn't get their timing and binding right the scrum will be depowered. And your head to head means very little then.
In previous seasons Ireland have had very good personnel in the tight five and a poor lineout, and then pretty much the same players and a smashing lineout.
Similarly that 9-10-12 axis need to complement each other well to really get a team moving in attack. All about combinations all over the park.
I went for Ireland by 5-10. Guess I just feel like we owe them one and our record against Wales in the 6N is pretty good over the last 10 years. I'm surprised more people aren't backing Wales though.

1.Gethin Jenkins
2. M Rees
3. Adam Jones
4. Bradley Davies
5. Ian Evans
6. Lydiate
7. Sam the Captain
8. Faletau
9. Mike Phillips
10. Priestlan
11. Cuthbert
12. Roberts (possibly Beck if Roberts isnt fit or even the tangoed one)
13. J Davies
14. North
15. Byrne. (could be halfpenny with cuthbert at 11)
16. Paul James
17. Huw Bennet
18. Ryan Jones
19. Tipuric or Buggyboy
20. Lloyd Williams(possibly webb)
21. Hook
22. Sc Williams
1.Gethin Jenkins v Cian Healy - Jenkins (Healy better in the loose imo)
2. M Rees v Rory Best - Best
3. Adam Jones v Mike Ross - Jones (Again Ross is better around the paddock)
13. J Davies v? - ? (I think whoever gets this jersey will try to play out of their skin to warrant it)
14. North v Bowe - ? (Bowe on rep North on form maybe?)
15. Byrne v Kearney - Kearney
Scrum - Wales
Breakdown - Wales
Lineout - Ireland
Loose forwards - Ireland
Backs
Defence - Equal
Centers - Wales
Back 3 - Equal
Half backs - Equal ( think Ireland have the potential for better distribution and game management if they get good ball)
Gatland V Kidney - Gatland
SO - not much has changed since the last meeting. Will Ireland take the advantage of a home fixture, will Wales still be hungry after beating us in the world cup..... Can DK & Co come up with a game plan and squad selection to surprise us all?
Now that I've written this head says Wales by 7+ heart says Ireland.......
Hilarious...saw you rate Healy as better than the best footballing prop in the world...don't need to read on
great so you won't ned to comment further on this thread.... see ya

Healy is only 23 or 24 lads. I know who I'd prefer in my team...

Re: Ireland v Wales score prediction?
SOB is certainly a vbetter attacking force than SWarburton, and less of a red card liability too
But Warburtons one of those players that supposedly doesnt exist anymore who gets recognised for doing the hard work that makes everyone else in his team look good.
As for Jenkins vs Healy, if youd asked me a year ago I wouldve said Geth...now Id sat Healy. His scrummaging improved beyond all recognition, hes no longer a center who lines up at the wrong place for set pieces.
As for which teams stronger, bit of sa cliche but like most 6 nations matches it depends who turns up on teh day. Ireland have been well below themselvces for most games in the last couple of years. Against Aus and England they showed the side they can be. No question Wales were playing better in teh world cup, but we have seen time and again the gap isnt so great between 5 Ns sides that a small shift in form cant reverse expeected results.
Youve got two teams with a few "makeweight" players gapfilling, and a couple of bigh reputation players who have been out of sorts for some time. Will Cuthbert be the new North or the Welsh Vanilkolo? Will Ireland find two centers worth starting places in the side? Which Byrne/Kearny will turn up?
If you went by regional/provincial results then Ireland should stroll this, but their national side has struggled recently.
I slightly favour Wales, but as always its a tasty fixture.

And when he isn't losing the ball to Toulouse he scores against that bedrock of rugby GLASGOW!!
Healy is the Young Pretender, Geth is the General with the Order of the Melon

Fair enough Gatts, it doesn’t make any material difference if we don’t agree so I can just leave it there.
And I never said he was better, I said I know who I’d prefer to have on my team
Now I’ll say Healy is better though, just for clarity

Re: Ireland v Wales score prediction?
Healy is better...that one is as clear cut as they get. Jenkins was the main man and still capable of putting in the odd big performance but he's not as good as he was, too many injuries I'm afraid. Healy is a beast of an athlete who is getting better and better all the time.
Throw Adam Jones in there though and Wales have the edge in the scrum.
