Most ripped player?
Currently goes to George North. I thought he was just a big lump, but he clearly does his situps and doesn't pig out on pizzas and chocolate!

Not even close, there are numerous backs more 'ripped' than that, let alone backrow forwards, who generally have the more impressive physiques.

I'd think
Pierre Spies - A monster, built like a tank, but second only to Habana in 30 and 100 yard dash in Boks squads!
Lawrence Dallalgio - was 18st, 6% body fat in his prime
James Haskell - loves his beach weights, such a poser
Andrew Sheridan - was considered strongest player by fellow pros. Think he could deadlift to Olympic level at one point
Owen Franks benches to almost Olympic trial levels
Pierre Spies - A monster, built like a tank, but second only to Habana in 30 and 100 yard dash in Boks squads!

Re: Most ripped player?
I have it on good authority that Powell did a course when he was in the lower leagues, apparently common knowledge in the Welsh valley leagues. Certainly gave him a good start.
RE Sheridan - Strength isn't everything, quite. It's all about technique, such a waste of a huge frame in my opinion and probably contributed to him being so injury prone. Kills me that these players bulk up so much, they don't realise that bones and ligaments can be built up in the same way and of course can't support them. You wouldn't reinforce the doors and windows in your garden shed with bullet proof glass but keep the plywood walls!

Dead-lifts have nothing to do with Olympic lifting. I assume you mean Powerlifting? I am not sure if I believe he is at that level though, as they can do like 350kg Dead-lifts on the norm which is absolutely insane.

I wouldn't say 350kg is the norm! On World's Strongest Man, competitors were seriously struggling to lift 320kg or so, with some of them even backing out at the 300kg mark.

oh, yeh Sheridan had powerlifting level lifts, primarily in his bench and squat. As someone has already said though, it's a shame that his body wasn't more conditioned for rugby, as opposed to just pure strength.

Apparently Andy Farrell was supposed to lift a freakish amount and could go toe to toe with likes of Julian White and Sheridan in the gym. Another case of strength not being linked to Rugby Union ability...

Christian Cullen bench pressed 150kg back in the day. Considering he was only 80-85kg himself, that's strength and talent combined. Apparently Bryan Habana (at 90kg) benches 160kg too.

Jesus christ can someone please put this thread out of its misery?
Powerlifting is a joke sport. Theres many different federationsa all of which have differnet rules about what constitutes a legal lift and what strapping/power shirts etc you can wear. Its also a given that powerlifters are heavy on juice. Ther is no real way of campring a rugby players lifting stats to those of a coemption powrlfiter. Strongman is a circus show, whilst a lot of them are good powerlifters its not the same thing at all and not as pure a test of strength.
Youll also notice that power lifters, olympic lifters, strongmen and succesful rugby players are gneraly not "ripped" and comepltley devoid of bodyfat. Sheridan was nuts strong, he was a good scrummager and decent rugby player...but he wasnt ripped and it didnt stop him getting injured and his career being ruined.
If you want the most ripped people we should be looking to the world of sports modelling, bodybuilding and gay p0rn. People like Haskell, Henson and Lomu

No need to get all whiny about a thread mate..
Also olympic lifters in the 105kg category and below are anything but fat. They are absolute monsters, and probably the best athletes in the world. They hardly work out like your typical beach boy bodybuilders.

Indeed, most olympic weightlifters look like beasts, but also in the lower weight categories you get guys (and women) who are incredibly powerful but dont look it.
Theres a reason why Olympic lifts (cleans, snatches, clean&jerk) are involved with most athletic training, they are very effective techniques

It's all just a bit of fun Biscuit. And they're actually all incredibly gifted athletes, especially as Rory said, the lighter bodybuilders and powerlifters.

Apparently, the olympic lifters usually excel all around in terms of athletic ability. They end up being almost as fast as the sprinters, and also have an incredibly high vertical jump. Ever seen the Russian weightlifters? Klokov, Akkaev etc. They are absolute beasts in the Olympic lifting. Look out for them at the olympics this year, I'm sure they will be tearing the place up.. Cannot wait!

While I wouldn't say they are better than athletes in those disciplines, they likely do incorporate a lot of sprinting and box jumps into their training to help develop that explosive power, so I would imagine they are handy sprinters and have a decent height on their jumps too.
I cannot wait for the Olympics to start as well, weightlifting has always been one of my favourite events to watch.
