The Official 2013 Wales v England bickering thread.
First topic message reminder :
2013 bickering thread
OK, every year we see threads that actually contain really good rugby discussion derailed by the ongoing Wales vs England bickering and WUMMING! I will name no names. I guess we have all been guilty.
Since most of the general bickering comes from the respective fans of Wales and England ; I thought I would create a thread for it in an effort to keep decent rugby discussion relatively WUM free in other threads.
Let it commence

Well, you seem to have this idea of an 'English' Army and an 'English' Monarchy. They don't exist.rainbow-warrior wrote:Que? Tell meCyril on 606v2 wrote:rainbow, you still don't understand the difference between British and English, do you?
Or are they just 'English' when Britain does something of which you don't approve?
That last one was a rhetorical question, by the way.

You both wish, unfortunately your remarks sadden me.
It'll be hell freezing over before a sais makes me angry, but your opinions are important and I encourage you to vent your feelings.
Big respect to your language of many languages and your belief that you somehow still rule the world.
You have given me a good night of amusement...I thank you and good night

I am not here to be agreed with or disagreed with, I have my opinions and that's that. I have studied Welsh history in detail and it is just a suggestion that those who think the Welsh are a bunch of 'hicks' watch The Story of Wales, not seen it myself but have read the book and it is a great starting point. Especially if the English want to see how the Welsh born King (Penmynydd, Ynys Mon) changed the entire face of Briton and that 95% of the Welsh nation did not speak English.

Two statements, neither of them accurate.
1) Dickens wrote Great Expectations just over 150 years ago. Do you really think people today struggle to understand it?
2) The earliest Welsh poetry (from the 6th century) is incredibly difficult to read without notes. The language has changed hugely since then.

I have to be honest I can't stand GSTQ it's not England’s anthem, it's all of ours hence why/maybe it should be played for both teams and supporters to sing.
I get the feeling Morgannwg and Rainbow-Warrior don't seem to like anyone mystiroakey to be honest, so I guess they have other motives other than to discuss rugby matters.

I would not surprise me to find that Welsh has not changed in 2000 years.
This would explain a few other Welsh phenomena too, like why it is still 1972.

Some people like living in the 70's
I always used to rationalize the money you pay on the Severn bridge as an entry fee to a 50's theme park rather than a toll.
(And if they did want to boost the Welsh economy the WA should be working on getting rid of the toll rather than just taking over the revenue from it...)

I did find rw's srguments for english changing is that it has to add words like microwave because they didnt exist before..
Does this logic not apply to the welsh laguage?
Is there no word for microwave?
you pay to go into wales- but you dont pay going into england.. it was £7.20 last time i went on it (i think)- playing celtic manor

Mysti, yes, there is a Welsh word for microwave: meicrodon.
When there was only one Severn bridge, the toll was collected on the English side, so you'd be paying to to get into England. That might still be the way they do it on the old bridge, I don't know.

Victor, a tweaked medial knee ligament. They took him off at 12 minutes, so avoided any heroics about playing on and doing more damage. I get the feeling it is fixable with some rest.

I would hazzard a guess you would need notes to understand Welsh today. Welsh history and the continuation of the language comes from Gwynedd and Powys. Most Welsh speaker would find it difficult to follow poetry at Eisteddfods today, nothing much changed there, just dialect and simplification, the pure language is still there.
Still arguing with people from a country that has no real history ..... yawn

No, I speak Welsh fluently. And Welsh has changed a great deal since Taliesin and Aneurin, just as English has changed since Chaucer.

English is a mongrel, dynamic, forward looking language, not too proud or too ossified to learn, improve, adapt, and incorporate new ideas and concepts. It has become so successful it is the defacto langauge of international business and the official langauge of international air and marine navigation.

On a more positive note from the Beeb wesite:
A Welsh holidaymaker has been hailed a hero for wrestling a shark that was swimming towards children on a beach in Queensland, Australia.
Paul Marshallsea, 62, from Merthyr Tydfil, grabbed the two-metre long shark by the tail on Bulcock Beach and dragged it out to deeper water.
He narrowly missed being bitten as the shark suddenly lunged at his leg.Mr Marshallsea said: "When I got the shark to just over knee deep he turned on me and just missed me with a bite.
Fair play that man from Merthyr

Welsh is spoken in small parts of Argentina. In fact the WA gives money to help support Welsh language teaching there.

Not sure I can be arsed with all that just to see Edinburgh or Scotlan play.

We've had a few sharks hanging around the city beaches too Victor. Some have even come 15km upriver. (not great whites... but bull sharks which are fairly aggressive and have killed a few people over the years).

That shark thing was unreal. Just saw it on the news.
Zooport to Bath is 45 mins tops.
Bridge is £6.20 for cars aye. I think the old toll has always been leaving England (it is now) whereas the new one is on the Welsh side. Flipping joke. At least £6 was a round number though.
