Re: The Hobbit thread
Is this an updated trailer from the one they released before Christmas?
Can't believe we've got until December to wait for this one.
I've got so many happy memories of this book, twas the one my Dad always read to me when I was very small.

Re: The Hobbit thread
aha, I shall probs watch it again anyways!
Think Richard Armitage is a brilliant choice for Thorin.
Interesting that they are bringing some of the LotR characters more into it, but guess it makes sense.

Can't wait for this film, one of my favourite books so I really hope adding in the Lord of the Rings characters doesn't change the story too much.

- Spoiler:
- I don't think Riddles in the dark is close enough to the middle of the key parts for it to be where it ends, I'm currently imagining it ending somewhere between being stuck up in the trees and the final thing we see is the trees catching fire or leaving Beorns house/entering Mirkwood.

- I say they will end it when they reach Lake Town after escaping from the WoodElves, that would leave the second movie with Smaug and the Battle of the Five Armies

- I agree with compelling that seems a little bit too late to me, although there would still be quite a bit of action left due to the battle I'm not sure it could last long enough, I guess it depends on their plans they could try filling in some of the story between the Hobbit and start of Lord of the Rings.
Very true Compelling it is the evening of the day they manage to escape, just feel there could be more tension for someone who hasn't read the book about how they get out of the trees or what will happen in Mirkwood over how Bilbo escapes when they all know about the ring before he does.

They shouldn't be allowed to announce films this early. Still another 8 months left, and then another year.

Re: The Hobbit thread
It's not really The Hobbit then though is it? I'll still watch it, unless they ruin the book.
Plus we're already waiting over a year for part 2, annoys me them announcing it so early.

Re: The Hobbit thread
torn whether ths is a good thing or bad thing. have they broke it down into 3 to make more money and by doing so slighty watered it down? or by doing it in three parts its going to be more depth and very true to the book like jackson did for lotr.
think with it being 3 parts my early guess of where it might end might be close to the mark

Re: The Hobbit thread
From that link it sounds like they've sorted the two films and decided that they can take the story further into what happens between The Hobbit ending and LOTR starting. So hopefully it won't actually affect the story involved in the first two parts.

Re: The Hobbit thread
I'm cautiously optimistic about these films. While I think they'll be great, I'm a big fan of Martin Freeman and the Hobbit book, which I have read unlike the Lord of the Rings.
However, I think there will always be a part of me hoping for the epic scenes of Lord of the Rings which just isn't the Hobbit style.
I will be very surprised if there aren't any huge battles in the three films.

Re: The Hobbit thread
I read a week or so ago of this by way of rumour. The idea was to include various bits which they missed out due to length, plus bridging material from the appendices (of LOTR presumably). Sort-of makes sense to me that they'd look to additional material to fill out a third film in running length, as The Hobbit is not a massively long book, at least not compared to LOTR. I'm struggling to see how they are going to pull this together into a narrative over 3 films though. Also heard that they have to re-hire and re-assemble the cast and crew which is not easy or cheap; presumably the contractual stuff has been sorted out now though.
The cynic in me is thinking that the studio at least is simply seeing $ signs, having already perfected their fleecing skills by releasing umpteen versions of each LOTR instalment (plus boxed sets of course) in DVD and Blu-Ray. Come to think of it, I would be surprised if there wasn't eventually a series of 3D re-releases (theatrically and domestically)!
"What have they got in their pocketses...?" After these films are done, probably more riches than Smaug.

Re: The Hobbit thread
The problem that anyone has got trying to make a film from a book with so much in it like The Hobbit is fitting as much as you can in obviously . Id rather they made more movies then miss bits out . Your never going to tell the full story but i dont mind them trying to

Re: The Hobbit thread
I'm not looking at trailers or anything else...I just want this to creep up on me and see does Jackson pull it off again...as in realising the imagery of the book...and even more so, the mood. The hobbit was more childlike than The Lord of the Rings trilogy. In a sense it existed more in a fairytale world than a fantasy one and I'm wondering will Jackson catch the fairytale elements.
Three books have been on my bedside table for a good few years now. The LOTR trilogy - Robert Louis Stevenson's Complete works...and my brothers old yellow paged copy of The Hobbit

I would have thought you could have squeezed the Hobbit into 1 film - 3 seems very unneccesary

True and I have a few choice swear words for them! Why I like illegal downloads to a certain extent, so I can make sure that I don't help the movie industry make money from churning out so much rubbish - I then pay for the movies that have actually had time and effort spent on them and have something interesting to say, and usually buy the film afterwards.

Re: The Hobbit thread
But then again............. movie studios might be creatively bankrupt but they're not brains bankrupt - they know exactly what you are illegally downloading. They're not fooled by your purchasing decisions or fooled by your 'moral' reasons for choosing to purchase them
They know the (painting by numbers) blockbusters are the ones being mostly illegally downloaded. Therefore they continue to know they (and not the arty, well made movies with a message) are the most popular - and therefore they continue to pump their money into them....even though you're not buying the DVDs
Now, also - who gives the money to the smaller movies with thought and creative talent put into them? The big companies that also finance the blockbusters. The blockbusters finance themselves, the blockbusters also finance the better quality films!...and I'm afraid even the well produced meaningful films also in their turn provide some cyclical funding to the big blockbusters.
PLUS.... it's very naughty of you to say you don't want these popcorn rubbish movies with their eternal sequels being made and yet you still get around to deciding to watch them........... morally refusing to pay or not. I think a better protest might to avoid them completely
