Should fighters with no film be included?
Fantasy Knockout Tournament (The Bantamweights)
Ok with so little debate going on at the moment I thought i'd steal an idea from the old forum, namely the fantasy knockout tournament.
Sure most of you know the drill, we choose 8 fighters from one of the original 8 weight classes, set them up into a knockout style tournament and see who comes out on top.
Few points to note
1. Any comments going down the usual Manny/Floyd route will be deleted
2. Any bashing of the old timers will be deleted
3. There will be no polls because as we know how and why they win is just as important as winning
So over to you lot where shall we start?

Re: Fantasy Knockout Tournament (The Bantamweights)
To avoid the ' new v old ' stuff, why not have two separate threads, Ghosty ?
One for pre war and one for post war.

Re: Fantasy Knockout Tournament (The Bantamweights)
Mainly because i'm awkward and also the fact I wont be dictated to by one poster. That's my opinion anyway
I don't think that would make much difference really Windy, Marciano, Burley, Moore, Louis etc. etc. etc. are all post war

It's your idea, mate, and it was only a suggestion. It's just that I imagine we'll be debating ' new v old ' as a principle instead of ' fighter A v fighter B ' in detail.
Certainly not for me to poke my nose in, though. It's a great idea for a thread.

Re: Fantasy Knockout Tournament (The Bantamweights)
Any comments like that can just be deleted, if we people want to debate sensibly then they can but going down the same route as before wont happen.
What division should we start at?
As before because we're dealing with head to heads guys like Greb and Burley are excluded for obvious reasons

Re: Fantasy Knockout Tournament (The Bantamweights)
We never did flyweights....!
And as creator i think the bantams would be a decent shout as well. Just giving the lil guys a shout out, not that i'm little @ 6'2 myself but they don't seem to get enough recognition...

Re: Fantasy Knockout Tournament (The Bantamweights)
Out of interest do we want to include those whom we have no to little film of?
I personally would but the majority rules.

Re: Fantasy Knockout Tournament (The Bantamweights)
The only problem with bantams is, although I know of the good 'uns, I don't know enough to evaluate matchups!

I'm sure you know just as well as the rest of us, mate.
Besides, that's the fun of it. Some of these will have me scouring my fight collection to re watch stuff I haven't seen for aeons. All good stuff !

Re: Fantasy Knockout Tournament (The Bantamweights)
Can't agree with Donaire being in the top 8 yet, he's only had 2 fights at the weight and for the basis of these discussions I tend to ignore what they do at other weights.
Vasquez is a tricky one, while he may have been great at Bantamweight he never competed there at the top level. For me super bantamweight falls under the umbrella of Featherweight.
Other than that the other 6 names are a shoe in, although in my opinion one of the weights where we potentially have a clear number one whom only gets knocked out of the tournament by one other despite fact the fact he comes bottom of the crop for me.

Re: Fantasy Knockout Tournament (The Bantamweights)
You referring to Harada v Jofre Ghosty?
Despite what the results of their 2 fights were, I wouldn't discount a prime Jofre being given the nod in a neutral venue - in fact I'd say he would be favourite.

Spot on, always felt that to a degree Harada had Jofres number but we'll see what happens

Re: Fantasy Knockout Tournament (The Bantamweights)
Although perhaps it would be a good idea to keep fighters that fought prime for prime (or close to it) in separate brackets, to try and avoid using actual matchups as the deciding factor.

The vote seems to be going well be surely it would be criminal to leave out those with no film footage

Re: Fantasy Knockout Tournament (The Bantamweights)
I'll randomly number them 1-8 then draw them out a hat, not many instances of two elite fighters fighting against eachother prime for prime.
