First topic message reminder :

I don't mind Paul Walsh at all, there are at least another 5 on the Sky Soccer Saturday that are way worse. Thompson is annoying , Nicolas just as bad, Merson is funny in an are you simple kind of way. George Best used to be worst of the lot.
I always found Graham Taylor's commentary annoying , that was his voice more than anything though.
In athletics Colin Jackson is very poor as is Denise Lewis.

The Coe v Ovett battles at Moscow for me. Plus Bolt and Johnsons smashing the 200 records.
Best football match I've seen live was England v Holand in Euro 96, smashed them.
Leonard beating Hearns in there first fight, live I saw Benn beat McClellan which was an amazing fight but ended badly.
Rugby, definitely 2003 final.
Cricket winning the Ashes in 2005.
Tennis surely Borg v Supermac, anyone of them.

If watching on TV is included, it would have to be Barbarians vs All Blacks in 1973 and the Greatest Try.

One of my neighbours celebrated his 90th birthday today.

He was the Commander of the midget submarine group based at Rothsey during WW2.
These guys did extrememy dangerous missions in tiny submarines that looked like torpedoes.
Their survival rate was 30% per mission and I think John went on six missions.
Amazing bravery and fantastic to see him survive this to celebrate his birthday at a garden party on such a lovely day

It was carnage , utter war. Kicked off in the crowd as well, the atmosphere was electric. I watch a lot of fights and I've never seen anything that brutal. Clearly watching a guy getting battered till he ended up in a coma isn't something to be proud of, then again both guys loved to fight and wanted to be there. You wouldn't wish what happened to McClelland on anyone but by all accounts he was a deeply unpleasant man.

No, I'm Bristolian by birth. Bit confused really. I should automatically pick some English bit of sport because I'm English? I just thought Maxi's goal in that match was ridiculously good - lovely crossfield ball, perfect chest trap and sublime volley into the top corner from the angle of the 18 yard box. What's not to like?

Nothing not to like about his goal, not sure how I have yet again managed to offend your somewhat fragile state of being. It seems rare you dont have issues with the comments I make. Your name is navyblueshorts - like Argentina - and you pick a goal they scored, is it any wonder I think you might be Argentine? Again not sure why that notion is offensive to you?

In the words of a teenage girl "get over yourself".

Best moment in sport was Jonah Lomu walking over Mike Catt in the 1995 Rugby World Cup. Before the game England said they would prevent him getting the ball. It didn't quite work out as planned.

Mac. You do post a lot of rubbish don't you? I don't have any of myself to "get over" - significant of you to use, as you freely admit, the words of a teenage girl.
The navyblueshorts ID is a rugby-related moniker (I'm sure I've explained this before), and when have I ever given the impression that I follow football as a real fan? TBH, it's no wonder to me that you think I'm Argentine; 2+2=5 and all that.

So you are saying if I were born next to a teams stadium and supported them for no other reason than that, I would be a more "real" fan than making a logical and informed choice of who to support?

Besides I have said many times before I have no idea why I started supporting man utd but I do know there are pictures of me in their strip celebrating my 5/6th birthday. Around 1992. So I guess someone in the family bought me the strip and maybe I latched onto that.

PS

Strewth I stopped accusing people of not being real football fans when I was 15. Who gives a monkeys why someone chooses to follow a particular team, the matches are mainly on TV now, there is no requirement to go to every game or indeed any game to be a fan. The only requirement is that you gain enjoyment out of them winning.

To be honest so called real fans are often complete sad cases, go to every single game missing weddings and spending a fortune they cant afford, getting tattoos of their clubs, only wearing a footie shirt when out socially and worst of all completely one eyed when it comes to talking about football.

Mac, Are you demonstrating your ignorance again?

The Argies can't take The Falklands back, because they've never owned them in the first place.
They are/were the aggressors. It's a British sovereign territory and is outwith the marine coastal boundary of Argentina.

It would be like the British invading the Faroes (which are closer to the UK, than the Falklands are to Argentina) on account of their location, despite having never owned them and them already belonging to another country, e.g Denmark in this case.

As for who you support, it makes no sense for you to claim to be a Man U fan, I think the best you can say is that you like to watch them and you look out for their results, but you haven't stated any links to the club or that you go and watch them, so vis a vis, it's easy to conclude that you support them because you are a glory hunter or they are the biggest most successful team.

If you've got no link to a team, why not support West Brom, Villa etc?

What I mean by the whole "no connection" thing is how can you have an emotional attachment to a team that you decide to start supporting without any prior link or attachment too.

How can a win or a defeat mean anything if you haven't invested any time in the team and if you just start supporting it for some undefined reason.

OK, I'll bite. Firstly, go look up the word 'hypocrite' when you get the chance...and 'joke'. Secondly, what are you on? Given our previous 'discussion' - are you Argentinian? Why the Hell should Falkland islanders (or we) need to get a sense of humour over the posturing of that idiot administration in Argentina? Sorry, whatever claim they might have had was made laughable by their moronic actions over the repatriation of YPF and, basically, the outright theft of the lion's share of Repsol's ownership.

Mac, I would never vote ukip, and is that a thinly veiled baroness warsi statement?

Also you never answered the falklands question I posed. How can they take them back when they never owned them in the first place?
Relative proximity isn't a condition for ownership, otherwise I might claim your treasured book on Doak as my property because you live near, fortunately it doesn't work like that.

They have no claims or justification at all on the islands.
