Hopefully, but I am beginning to worry that Catterick isn't going to get a chance. He's been on the fringe of the squad for a few years, without ever really getting a chance. I have suspected for a while that he would end up as a fullback rather than Fly half and it seems to me that it is fly half or broke for him now.
GeordieFalcon wrote:Do you think this guy will be first choice Cumbrian?
I confess i know absolutely squat about him....aside from he's played at 3 world cup finals aparently...not bad for a 26yr old.
I would certainly hope the 10 spot is shared amongst him and Catterick.
Richards must see something in him though...cant imagine the club signing him without Deanos approval....
I know very little about him either other than his previous clubs, fingers crossed that he will fit into the long term plans.
AsLongAsBut100ofUs wrote:No harm in having good back up?
It's always good to have strong backup, good to have.... as long as it doesn't keep talented youngsters out of the squad.

Theres always the alternative Cumbrian...that catterick just isnt good enough and wont quite make it. I would have thought he would have been getting there by now.

It's a fair point Geordie, but I would like to see him get a fair crack of the whip before he's ruled out.

Re: Newcastle Falcons Thread - Use Championship thread
Surely now is the best time to trial the young guys and if possible forge them into a working unit so that when the take the step up to the AP the structure and style of play is already well established. On promotion add a couple of quality players and you should be ready.
That's in an ideal world of course.

How old is Catty now? If he tightens his defense up he could be a v good play maker at 12.

Re: Newcastle Falcons Thread - Use Championship thread
I do think one way or another Catterick will get some chances at 10 this season. Then we will know for ourselves where is he by his performances.
Im confident the lad has the ability.
I think there will be a number of the academy guys getting games this season. Some of the second rows..front rows etc...just to get a taster even.
And Joe Robinson!
Cumbrian...get the raw meat ill get the keys for the cage...

Speaking of Joe Robinson, here's an interview from last week:
http://www.journallive.co.uk/newcastle-sports/north-east-rugby/newcastle-falcons/2012/07/20/joe-robinson-looking-for-fresh-impetus-61634-31433801/
It's funny actually, I recognise the relationship he describes between Cumbria and the Falcons. It was well cultivated when I was a kid. Good to see it is being kept up.

Interesting that Catterick see's himself as more of a 10 this season so Jimmy is pretty much nailed on at 15.
Edinbourgh game anyone?

Waisea Luveniyali played for us in the season we got to the Playoffs, he's a good option covering multiple positions. Maybe a good less straight-forward 12 to swap around with Fitzpatrick?

I think so, his school matches up in the article and the Giants profile. Aye I spotted the lad from Blaydon. Has he played for the Falcons 'A' team or owt? He has got to be worth a look at with stats like that!

I see Manning has gone by mutual consent right enough. No major loss there...
and Prop Dan Frazier has been forced to retire due to major back surgery.

GF, we have a space on the AP fantasy game if you fancy it?
It's a good laugh and keeps up the patter when the boards are quiet. Always welcome people with good world rugby knowledge as there's a foreign transfer system etc.
Wasps available with players like Mas, Care etc

Re: Newcastle Falcons Thread - Use Championship thread
Geordie, it's not unusual for academy players to jump between clubs early on. I noticed a Tigers flanker who was given his debut in last seasons LV Cup against Quins scored against Tigers for Sales in the 7s tournament. There's also the speedster Charlie Walker down at Quins who was a Tigers academy product that decided he wanted to be in the capital.
