Roland Garros - Day 10
First topic message reminder :
Thought I'd take my turn.
Djokovic v Tsonga.
Could stretch Noles nerves, as he'll have the crowd very much against him, which he's been known to be a bit funny about. Djokovic in 4.
Federer v Del Potro.
Fed may approach this with more confidence than he would have Berdych, as he seems to have been owning JMDP this year. Then again, he did him up like a kipper at AO 2009 and was lucky to get past him at the French. The cold damp conditions may help Del Boy too. However I think Federer will move the big man around more than he likes. Fed in 4, maybe 5 though I think it may be one of those annoying matches where he looks weak.
Do I have to do the Womens? No, I should;
Cibulkova v Stosaur
Stosaur. In 3 interminable sets.
Errani v Kerber
I have no idea who these people are.

Re: Roland Garros - Day 10
The key stat from the 3rd set is how Fed's serve has improved from being around 50% to 65% in the 3rd, that's not affected by Delpo @ all.

Re: Roland Garros - Day 10
Fed is definitely hitting the ball cleaner but DP is not moving as well as he was. I don't know whether that's due to injury or just tiredness.

Re: Roland Garros - Day 10
Well it would be a great win for Federer if he beats Del Potro in five sets. Shows he has the energy and strength.

Re: Roland Garros - Day 10
He's injured because Fed has mixed his game up a bit, forcing DP to move and twist allot more. Fed playing some lovely shots, but still a set down with a possible decided to go..

It's well known that once Fed gets Delpo moving around the court he can beat Delpo with no issues. Exactly what he's been doing (as well as improving his level) and he's winning more easily now.

Without jinxing it looks like we have a deciding set, only 1 person is going to win it atm.

Given the fragility of Roger's serve in this match, he needed that insurance break

Fed very smartly using the slice more and more, making DP stoop low, causing errors

Re: Roland Garros - Day 10
DP given up this set, his knee as a result of Fed upping his game and realising you beat DP by moving him around is giving DP jib clearly. Come on Fed, one more set.

Novak is still going to win this match. He is too mentally tough not to.

I see. So if Fed double bagles Del Potro in these last two sets, thats just to him rising his level?? Can't you see Del Potro is barely moving, Federer doesn't even need to move him around.

There's no secret about how Fed usually beats Delpo, move him around the court and Fed playing @ a consistent level and it's over for Delpo.
Now moving onto the more pressing matter.....can Fed get a triple break?

It seems like Delpo is saving his energy for the 5th set, exactly like Fed did in the USO semi final against Djokovic.

Re: Roland Garros - Day 10
Federer is clearly striking the ball so much better but its obvious Del Potro is struggling, so its a combination hence the 6-0 scoreline

Roger takes the fourth set to love and serves first in the fifth. Very key.

Re: Roland Garros - Day 10
Tsonga has held on, that was a crucial hold. If Tsonga can take the match into a tie breaker in the 4th set, he has a chance of winning against Djoko, but not otherwise in my view.

I've seen this a thousand times. Federer upped his level and blitzed Delpo, and Delpo is tanking now to save energy for the 5th. there is no injury that I can see, just Fed at Goat level. The 5th will be closer because Delpo will be going all out again.

Tremendous hold from JWT there. Feel like he needs to win it this set while he has the momentum, Djokovic is like Lazarus so he cannot give him an inch.

It's not difficult to hit winners when your opponent is standing still. Watch Federer next round being back to his shanky best. Don't get too excited.

Come on Fed is playing great, but DP is not the same he was in the 1st two sets, no execuses for the loss of the 2 sets but his knees have bothered him through out the tournament.
I am just happy he gave Fed a run for his money, may be next time.

Re: Roland Garros - Day 10
So if Delpo is barely moving, how on earth did he just push Fed in that open service game in the 5th? It's very clear Delpo saved his energy for this final set. It makes sense. Why waste energy on sets you already have lost and don't seem likely to win? No brainer.

Also there is no tie break in the fifth, so Federer is going to have to break.

Serious hitting going on in the Djokovic match. Djokovic seems to have upped his game in this set somewhat, Tsonga hanging in with some big-hitting and great serving...

That shouldn't be difficult because according to some, Delpo is injured and is barely moving!
