Week 8 - Voting
Southern League
Match 1 - Hampshire Royals vs Sussex Sharks - Toss won by Hampshire Royals
Pitch: The hot
weather has baked the Hampshire pitch and caused large cracks to appear,
this should offer both uneven bounce and plenty of spin. Batsman will
have to be on the top of their games to score on this pitch. Could be a
low scoring affair unless a batsman decides to force the pace and
attack.
Match 2 - Middlesex Panthers vs Somerset CC - Toss won by Somerset CC
Pitch:
A seamers paradise at Middlesex with even the medium pacers getting
some extra zip off of the pitch. Batsman should look to use the pace
which could cause a largish scoring game if the seamers don't put it
into the right areas. Could be a cracking game.
Match 3 - Surrey Lions vs Essex Eagles - Toss won by Surrey Lions
Pitch: With a very hard wicket, this should be a batsmen's paradise. However there is a green tinge to the wicket offering something to the seamers first up and throughout. The spinners may be able to use the bounce to there advantage but there is minimal spin. With a lightning quick outfield as well, this should be a high scoring game.
Northern League
Match 1: Lancashire Lightening vs Worcestershire Royals - Toss won by Lancashire Lightening
Pitch:
Plenty of spin at Old Trafford today as well as bounce and carry.
Sub-continent spinners will have a field day as these conditions will
suit them perfectly. Batsman will probably want to attack the extra
bounce that the seamers are getting.
Match 2: Yorkshire Carnegie vs Leicestershire Foxes - Toss won by Leicestershire Foxes
Pitch:
Overnight rain has taken a bit of the sting out of this pitch but the
outfield is still fast. Medium pacers and bowlers who can keep it tight
will be essential. If a batsman gets going and rides his luck a bit he
might win the match there and then.

Lancs vs Worcs
Worcs get through to 140/8 batting first thanks to good contributions from Hafeez, Amla and Shakib. In reply the Lancs batsmen really struggle against the spin from Worcs, and the tail goes down slogging, all out for 110 in the 18th. Win to Worcs.
Yorks vs Leics
Some good tight bowling from leics restricts yorks to 130/5 batting first. Gambhir anchors a solid chase and leics get home in the final over. Win to Leics.

Re: Week 8 - Voting
Lancs v Worcs
Hafeez knicks off to Anderson early, and KP knicks a straight delivery from Kerrigan. Afterwards Amla and Bell lead a recovery, featuring some beautiful stroke making. Scoring quickly is not easy, and Sammy does a good job in going at 5 an over. Both get out towards the end of the innings, but on this surface 140-4 is a very good effort.
Hafeez works his magic with the ball straight away, removing the hapless Phil Hughes, and Jesse Ryder in the first over. Meaker gets some pace out of the pitch, removing Moore. The middle order can't recover and, despite some good hits from Maynard, Mendis and Shakib restrict Lancs to 105-7.
Worcestershire win by 35 runs
Man of the Match: Hashim Amla
Yorks v Leics
Cook and Denly miss out on some wayward bowling from Trego early on as they look to play themselves in. Then Ajmal comes on and bamboozles both of them, and Azhar. Dhoni and Rohit despatch Razzaq, Allenby and the ageing Langeveldt to lead a stunning recovery to 172-4. Rohit is run out off the last ball.
Rampaul and Bresnan are a class above Will Jefferson in everything other than height and he nicks off after a painful 3 from 14 balls. Gambhir and Sangakkara bat cautiously at first, and then have a go successfully at Rashid. They rotate Warne well until he traps Gambhir lbw in his last over. Kev O'Brien hits Rashid for two enormous sixes, but then holes out off Rampaul. Bresnan cunningly removes Raina with the short ball, leaving 24 from the last two overs. But Razzaq does what Razzaq does best and its all over with a while to spare.
Leicestershire Foxes win by 5 wickets
Man of the Match: Kumar Sangakkara

Re: Week 8 - Voting
Hampshire Vs Sussex
Both sides have players well suited to this pitch, but the toss is crucial as Clarke and Akmal get Hamps up to an above average score after Carberry has gotten the innings of to a flyer (151-5). In reply I feel that Hamps spinners are slightly better and strangle sussex out of the attack as Levi goes early and Kallis struggles to get them away. Kohli plays a lone hand but is left stranded and is the last man out for 71 as Sussex fall 5 short with two balls remaining.
Hampshire win
Middlesex Vs Somerset
Philander gets McCullum early, but some watchful batting from Guptill and Watson see the Panthers through the early overs and gets them a stable base from which to attack and these to play well, going after the spinners in the middle overs and then some blasting from Malan, Mogs and Yuvraj get them up to 160 which looks a winnable score. Finn gets wickets early with the movement to go with his pace making him near unplayable. Some edges off his pace keeps Somerset hopes up, but they keep losing wickets regularly with Middlesex's brave pick to go with many seamers paying off and Somerset fall 17 runs short.
Middlesex win
Surrey Vs Essex
Mills and Masters are expensive with the batsmen looking to get after the medium pace of Masters and Mills's pace going with some wayward lines. Masters does get 2 wickets with his nip though. Afridi loves the extra bounce with his quick leg spin, as does Narine whose variations cause panic in the Surrey line up and they rip the heart out of the Surrey batting taking 5 wickets between them. In reply Woakes is on a mission, and Surrey bowl well but the difference is SRT as he guides his side home in the 19th over.

Re: Week 8 - Voting
Hampshire win-Notable contributions from Clarke with the bat, and Briggs with the ball. Prior bats well for Sussex, Panesar the best with the ball.
Middlesex-Finn bowls tremendously well, Trott offers resistance and late hitting from Southee ensures a respectable total. However, McCullum and Guptil get middlesex off to a flyer, and despite a flurry of late wickets, they get home.
Surrey-Davies plays a fantastic innings, smashing a hundred with supporting knocks from Mahela and Hussey. Afridi the best bowler. Tendulkar plays a great knock but doesn't receive support from Afridi until it is too late. Woakes the best bowler.
