Euro 2012: Day 4 Thread
First topic message reminder :
France v England (17:00 ITV 1)
Ukraine v Sweden (19:45 BBC 1)
The 4th and final group commences tomorrow and it starts with a mouthwatering game between England and France. France are favourites for the game and some people's pick to win the whole thing, but never say never for England. The day is rounded off by co-hosts Ukraine playing the unfancied Swedes.

I think it's a good move playing Ox and I just hope he has a solid game. Without Rooney, he's the one really exciting player we have.

The goalkeeper shirt is horrible. Worse than the Everton one.

We're playing much better than I expected.
Seeing a lot more of the ball. Pressing as well.

I'm sick of people saying that Glen Johnson is England's weak link, he's been an assured defender for Liverpool and England for at least 18 months. Just as Ashley Cole was often criticised for a lack of defensive nous, Johnson has matured as a footballer.
Saying that, I could be jinxing him.

He's clearly been told to sit back in midfield rather than make bombing runs into the box.
He's made some good passes so far, opened up the defence at one point.

I've always really liked Johnson. How many modern full-backs are great defenders anyway?Crimey wrote:I'm sick of people saying that Glen Johnson is England's weak link, he's been an assured defender for Liverpool and England for at least 18 months. Re: Euro 2012: Day 4 Thread
There is a difference between soaking up pressure intelligently and then just sitting back and standing off your man! Thats what happens when you dont close down your man.
Any fricking idiot could see that coming...why would Roy not be screaming at his players to get tight on their man!!

Disgusting lazy defending let Nasri free. Hodgson couldnt manage his dinner. The England midfield doesnt really exist.. does it?

Re: Euro 2012: Day 4 Thread
Not one of our midfield is capable of keeping the ball. Can count at least 20 occasions they have needlessly given the ball away already. We are giving the French too much time on the ball...if your going to play defensive and look to break you have to put pressure on the player on the ball in the final 3rd...look to win it then get the midfielders (excluding Parker) out and supporting the strikers quickly.
Re: Euro 2012: Day 4 Thread
We just sat back after scoring the goal, hopefully we can start playing the way we were before the goal after half time.

Re: Euro 2012: Day 4 Thread
Welbeck and Young towards the end of that first half just not seeing as much of the ball. Hope the 2nd half we start to bring them back into the game. Impressed with Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Re: Euro 2012: Day 4 Thread
I think we all would have taken 1-1 at half time? A bit too standoffish at the end of that period but we've played quite well in general.

Re: Euro 2012: Day 4 Thread
Standard...thats what we always do. 1 Goal is never enough in football...can understand if we are 2 up or its 1-0 with 5 mins to play. But 1-0 up with 60 minutes still to go...the opposition can probe and attack intelligently without sacrificing to many forward thereby neulifying the threat of being hit on the counter.
England sit too deep, which is fine if you pressure when the ball gets 25 yards from goal...but not if you just sit on the edge of the box and allow the other team as much time on the ball as they want.

Gerrard and Parker guilty of standing off too much for the goal. Young and OX looking dangerous on the ball, Cole excellent as usual, Milner not good enough for this level.
