There must be other transfer deals going on but it just seems like the Joe Allen deal is all we are intrested in

I also think we're going to get ripped off in that deal a bit. I imagine we'll end up spending £15m+ on him.

Liverpool step up efforts to sign Joe Allen from Swansea by triggering release clause in his contract
Looks like £15m is what you are gonna pay. Good player, but crazy money

Really frustrating.
Presumably if Rodgers leaves, he'll try and take Allen again?

I don't think Agger wants to leave Liverpool. Have a look at his new tattoo!

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
There's a lot of people who think this situation with Agger is just out in the open contract negotiations between the player, his agent and the club. I'm not so sure myself but I really hope it gets sorted and that Agger stays.

I don't think we need to given that it triggers a release clause.

The agreement to not sign any Swansea player circumvents that I think.

Wonder if this means Liverpool are selling Agger. Heard Johnson on loan in return which would be a great deal.

As far as I was aware it was one and the same clause.
Edit: Nope I'm incorrect. The clause in Allen's contract circumvents Liverpool's signed agreement though.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
I think Liverpool can only sign Swansea players if Swansea waive that clause.
Which was basically in place to stop Rodgers activating all the release clauses

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
From what i have read it would need Swansea to waive the clause or for another club to make an offer which would then allow Liverpool to bid as that said player would be in the ' market '

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
Second leg vs Gomel tonight, at home.
Hoping to see a much stronger performance this time around. I think pretty much everybody needs to improve. Hopefully fitness levels have been raised since last time.
I'd like to see starts for Reina, Agger, Carroll, maybe even Shelvey. I'd like to see Suarez, Sterling and somebody else brought from the bench.
Looking for a 2-0, 3-0 win really.
No Cole which is good news.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
Hope so but I have a feeling it will be a close horrible game, it always is when I actually get a chance to watch them live lol
Re: Liverpool FC Thread
Same.
The last game was awful, but their home support was clearly driving them on so I doubt they'll do as well at Anfield.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
We're essentially fielding the best first XI under Rodgers, with Allen replacing Shelvey if he comes in.
Good to see Agger starting.
Not sure about Suarez starting, but if he thinks he is fit enough then fair enough.

Although there has only been a couple of minutes, this is much more like it. We're starting aggressively and really going for it, lots of pressing and fitter.

BORINI!!!
There can't be many players in the world better at beating their man than Suarez in the world. A few magical moments from Suarez in this match.

Yeah, compared to the last game this is amazing.
I think the difference, other than better fitness, is Suarez. He creates so much.

Yeah, seems to be giving the benefit of doubt to Gomel every time.
You sort of don't want Suarez to play so well, don't want interest in him to come back.

Glad to see the fan's supporting Agger and also Carroll.
Sends a strong message to Rodgers that the fans don't want to see either leave.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
That was such a big improvement on last week , not going to get carried away but we did look really good in parts and Suarez what a player he is .
Like i said im not going to get carried away , but apparantley one of us is read this today you have to admire his loyalty
A optimistic Liverpool supporter has placed a whopping £44,000 bet on his side winning the Premier League title this season.
British bookmakers William Hill reported that a Liverpool fan in his mid-thirties has placed a £22,000 each-way bet on Brendan Rodgers' side to win the Premiership at odds of 25/1.
Should Liverpool win the league, the unnamed man will pocket £777,333.33, while should the Merseysiders finish second, he will win £205,333.33.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
Haha, not chance. I wouldn't even be willing to put that money on us finishing top 5!
A much better performance this week, Suarez coming back has clearly improved us ten-fold. The things he can do with a football are immense.
Not sure we had a weak link this time. Borini looked better when switching and swapping with Suarez from left to centre. Gerrard seemed fitter again.
Was disappointed not to see Carroll especially after the fans were cheering him hugely, hoping it was down to fitness.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
That was quick.
I'm gutted that I'm going to miss the first game of the season, I'll be at a festival until the 20th so probably won't even be able to find out what has happened for a few days.
I think we need to start with a win. West Brom are a beatable side.

West Brom have the worst record on opening days. I think it is like 1 win in 9 opening day games, but I can't be sure. I read it somewhere

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
I can't remember Albion ever winning the opening game to a season. Though in fairness, of the opening games in recent times they've been; Arsenal(A) Chelsea(A) Man Utd(H) and now Liverpool this year.
Certainly be an interesting game.
