The Zone Virtual Sports Bar, Hamilton.
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Zone Sports Bar, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
This week the pub has set up in Sky City Hamilton, where the Crusaders take on the Chiefs in the Super XV semi final.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Bradley Wiggins, Ernie Els, Irene van Dyk, Sonny Bill Williams and his newly capped All Black team mate Sam Cane.

I see Mitch Romney has got under the skin of Boris and the Cam man by suggesting London isn't prepared to host the Olympics...
He also forgot Red Eds name and called him "Mr Leader"!

Who cares what Romney thinks? Does having a view on the 2012 Olympics really help him to win American Votes?

Mr Leader? Isn't that the...er leader of the Movementarians? Typical Republican. Quite ironic that he was head of the Salt lake city winter games which didn't exactly run smoothly. Hope Obama kicks his arris in the election..

I saw a bit of David Cameron meeting Mitt Romney yesterday. Cameron couldn't look him in the eye. But Romney just glows with wealth, doesn't he?

Great finish, Chiefs hold on to take the final spot at 20-17, but pushed all the way by the 'Saders

I thought this was quite perceptive from Matthew Parris:
"British self-deprecation is actually quite boastful. Its primary purpose is to show how relaxed, at ease and confident you are. It's a sign of being so in command that you can undersell yourself."

The other thing you can do is be so arrogant it's clearly ridiculous and thus self-depreciating through irony. If that self-depreciation is actually boastful, does that make it a double-bluff?

It's a completely new thing isn't it Notch Sure the Irish politicians are some of the most honest in the world. Declaring 80k for travelling up to Dublin from Cork for 3 years is a totally honest thing to do.

No it isn't. He travelled by car. Our politicians are off for 3 months or so pretty much every year. It's not believable at all. Our former Taoiseach is elligible for 3 pensions from what I'm aware!

It was a joke. 80 grand was a joke we paid for him to saty in a hotel overnight ffs. That basterd robbed us blind. Plenty of other Irish politicians are probably up to it as well.

We've already had our MPs' expenses scandal over here. The defence of a lot of them was that everyone else was doing it.

Re: The Zone Virtual Sports Bar, Hamilton.
Chequered, doing some basic maths I reckon that €60,000-€65,000 is a fairly acceptable if he worked 5 days a week with no holdays but that should be the limit.
It costs no more than €70 for a return Dublin-Cork trip.
If we assume he works 5 days a week (some days more, some less). Thats 260 working days which is €18,200 a year (€54,600 over three years).
Now maybe he has a big car that takes a lot of petrol. And he has to pay parking fees in Dublin of €5 per day. That should still come in under €65,000.
However he is claiming €80,000 which seems really excessive. I haven't even taken into account holidays when he is away.

Re: The Zone Virtual Sports Bar, Hamilton.
Stag our politicans spend what 2/3 months on holidays?
Considering that Callelly's constiuency was in Dublin he probably wouldn't have been spending a heck of a lot of time in Cork anyway.

Thats what I am saying Thomond. Even if he worked the entire year he would still have only accrued at most €65,000.
They have 7 weeks holidays I believe.
Taking that into accoutn the real figure is more likely €55,000 maximum.

I think the main problem is that are politicans didn't get the sugar first. They went from law to power and in some cases women.

Or, a theory I've heard, is that you go into politics with good intentions, but then to get to the position to be bale to do anything, you have to sell out and make compromises, thinking it will all be fine because you can make amends with your policies once you are in power, and then it is too late, you have made deals you can't back out of, been corrupted etc
I prefer to think like that, makes me feel less sad about humanity

All of my politcal knowledge comes from "the thick of it" (which is EXCELLENT, if you haven't seen it, get involved). That's pretty much the picture they paint of the politicians in it. Bertie Aherne on the other hand, is a card carrying shiester.

The problem is that if you want to get elected into office, you have to do (or say you'll do) what the majority of people want. This usually means making promises you can't keep.
The main problem with democracy, though, it that's based on the majority's opinion on things. The majority are often, if not usually, wrong.

Its an excellent move bud. Proud day for you and the lads too. Tallaght is such a huge catchment area - just waiting to be developed and converted to rugby.
Be great for kids growing up, to have their own local heros to look up to, instead of watching overpaid girlie-mercenaries, playing for Man Unirra, Liverpool & Arsenal.
Imagine.
We're gonna need a bigger ground.
Oh look, there's Lansdowne, only just across the road. Plan.
