First topic message reminder :

Day 2 - will we get our first medal? Adlington goes in the 400m freestyle and the hockey comps kick off today.

Does playing at the Olympics count as a cap? Surely it doesn't as the selections are limited to under 23s bar three, but does anybody know the actual answer?

No it doesnt

Caps only count for full internationals, so I'd assume if selections are limited they don't.

Bellamy again the provider. Quality chip from Sturridge.

The noise inside Wembley sounds awesome tonight. Haven't heard a roar in there like that since the towers were standing alongside it.

It's a good game all round. The UAE defence looks a little shakey and GB have expoited it.

A draw against Uruguay will be enough to see GB through. A win should see them go top of the group.

Spain are just 7 minutes away from being knocked out.

That would give GB a decent chance at a medal.

Spain just denied a blatant penalty with a minute left. How I laugh, karma for all their diving and playacting maybe?

Ironically I think team GB will do well in this now which will spark more pressure on the england team that isnt needed- Wales why dont you just join england like you do in cricket?? then maybe- just maybe!

Question, do you think Ian Thorpe adds anything? I'm finding him annoying. Warming to Gary over these Games, probably because he tells bad jokes, like myself.

Well we could solve our left sided midfield problems but somehow I don't think the Welsh will be too keen!

He always seems as if he's surprised that Gary Lineker is asking him questions, as if he shouldn't be bothered by him. A few times Gary Lineker has smartly had to remind him that most people watching won't understand the technical vocabulary of swimming.

Spain are out! And they surround the ref at the final whistle. What's the point, the ref's not gonna change his mind? Anyway, GB's medal hopes have increased in the men's football because of it. Sadly, we've been hammered in the men's basketball by the Russians.

Spain were the better team, hit the woodwork a few times, but they weren't playing like the full team usually do. There was a few recognisable names in their team, De Gea, Mata, Alba.

Yeah, agreed. It's a bit like people complaining there is too much chatter on the BBC One coverage, and there probably is, but you have to remember BBC One will get the viewers who aren't the die hard sport fans - it's for the general audience. For more indepth stuff, go to BBC Three or the streams. Great all round though I have to say.

Good efforts from Armitstead and Adlington clap A shame one of them couldn't pull through for gold though (we won golds in both events in Beijing)

I'm off to the Table Tennis tomorrow. Drinkhall is still in, but plays the 3rd Round (against a high ranked opponent) before we go so I doubt we'll be able to cheer on GB Sad

Yeah but we shouldn't be thinking "we got this medal in Beijing", things change over 4 years and we will win medals we didn't last time. Neither Addlington nor Armitsteade were expected to win their races

Oh, Absolutely. But nor did we necessarily 'expect' to win gold at Beijing - to improve on our great efforts there we need to win some we're not expected to.

Yeah, its just that I feel closer to GB than Ireland.

Granted, I'd prefer if GB were called UK.

The way I'd put is I'm an Irishman who is also British.
