Been overruled by girls on beach volleyball. They'd rather watch waterpolo...

Senegal have beaten Uruguay 2-0 in men's football. Bad result for Uruguay, but a good result for Team GB who give themselves a great chance of qualifying from their group if they can beat the UAE tonight.

Ellen Gandy came last in her final for GB in the 100m Butterfly. Team GB also lost in the waterpolo I believe. On the plus side, GB women are 3-0 up against Japan in the hockey.

Re: Olympics Day 2
Rebecca Adlington takes bronze, chalk up medal number 2 for GB. It was a good swim from her, she has a good chance of Gold in the 800m. In the men's handball, we're being hammered by the French but that's no real surprise. We're still winning in the football and hockey and only just trailing in the basketball against Russia.

Re: Olympics Day 2
Adlington swam very well there . Congrats to here and team GB I think there are a few more medals for them in the pool. Ireland don't have hope in the pool, really a few are a bit too young but will learn from the experience.

Dave, do you exclusively support GB or would you be supporting Ireland too? Or would it just be NI athletes ala Barnes and Kearney (Judo yesterday I think she is from NI) that you would support for Ireland

Re: Olympics Day 2
She's kept her medals for some strange reason even though she was guilty of doping, she skipped tests after the games and was only caught a few years after so the likelihood is she was doping during the games.

Re: Olympics Day 2
Two years after the Atlanta Games, FINA banned Smith for four years for tampering with her urine sample using alcohol.[1] She appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Her case was heard by a panel of three experienced sports lawyers, including Michael Beloff QC. Uniquely for a CAS hearing, De Bruin's case was heard in public, at her own lawyer's request.[7] FINA submitted evidence from Dr Jordi Segura, head of the IOC-accredited laboratory in Barcelona, which said she took the bodybuilding drug Androstenedione, a metabolic precursor of testosterone, the night before the test. It also became known that three samples, taken between November 1997 and March 1998, had shown traces of Androstenedione.[5][8][9] The CAS upheld the ban.
Billy, tampered with her sample, she was guilty but we kept the medals. So shut your trap.
Dave are you an Ireland and GB guy or just GB? Or the NI athletes who compete for Ireland.

Re: Olympics Day 2
So shut my trap? Ok, didnt expect that from you Thom.
I am sure that she was exonerated due to her husband admitting to the tampering and the supplying of of drugs to others.
I have no problem being wrong but no need to be like that.

The handball finished 44-15 to France. Ouch. Plenty of time left in the football to get the winner, remember UAE posed Uruguay a few problems as well! Spain still 1 down to Honduras and could be going out.

to be honest, it is already an achievement for GB to put a handball team together so fair play to them...
anyway, great day for france : 4 medals including 2 golds in the swimming pool and the best ever revenge against the americans on the 4*100m men.

Re: Olympics Day 2
I've looked everywhere but can't find an answer to this question...
Does playing at the Olympics count as a cap? Surely it doesn't as the selections are limited to under 23s bar three, but does anybody know the actual answer?
