Olympics Day 11
Yesterday our showjumpers were golden. Also, King Kenny ruled the track. Now it's over to Sir Chris, Princess Laura and can Queen Victoria have a victorious curtain call on her cycling career?
Also, brothers Brownlee go for Triathlon glory and our Dressage team are in action, going for Gold!
If all goes right, today's the day we beat Beijing and do the 20.

Day 10 hasn't even finished yet, jumping the gun Dave!
I'm at the boxing now, good performance from Ogogo to guarantee bronze, Joshua up at 2315.

Re: Olympics Day 11
Medal chances tomorrow:
- Charlotte Dujardin in the Dressage Grand Prix Special
- Great Britain in the Dressage Grand Prix Special
- The Brownlee brothers in the Triathlon
- Sir Chris Hoy in the Kierin
- Victoria Pendleton in the Sprint
- Laura Trott in the Omnium
and a half chance for Robbie Grabarz in the High Jump.
All in all could be an excellent day. I'm off to see the Handball tomorrow and take in the Olympic Park after previously attending two events at the ExCeL.

We should get 3 golds from the cycling maybe. All are going to be close, but with the way our cycling has been going you wouldn't put it past them

Pendleton is a nailed on, Trott might be close and you never quite know with the Keirin. But we start as favourite for all three!

I would say Hoy is most nailed on of the three. Although Pendleton looks in imperious form, and Meares looks a little off. Trott has the hardest event, but she is in a very good position, especially with her least favourite event (points race) out the way

I just can't see Pendleton being beaten by Meares or anybody else on current form. But I'll bow to your superior cycling knowledge

Trott is sitting top with her best events yet to come. Pendleton imperious as ever, anything can happen in the keirin but I wouldn't bet against Hoy taking a record gold.
The best two triathletes in the world are the Brownlee brothers from GB, could be another gold in there. Sitting top in team Equestrian Dressage too.

Trott's battle with Sarah Hammer will come right down to the wire though. The pair will probably be 1-2 in the pursuit, and Trott will probably win the kilo. So its all down to the scratch race again...

That'll take us to 42 medals overall with at least four if not more to come from the boxing as we have 4 boxers through to 'guaranteed bronze' stage at the moment, and possibly a couple more to come, which isn't registered on the medal table at the moment.
Think we'll beat Beijing in both medals and golds this rate.
Hopefully one of our 1,500m girls can pick up a medal too and we have good shots at mens and womens in the 470 sailing.

Re: Olympics Day 11
A very promising day - realistic chances of at least 5 golds, with the three cyclists (be very surprised if Hoy and Vicky don't take gold, Trott may need a bit of luck in the scratch race, as everyone else will be out to get her), the Brownlees (as close to nailed on as you can get in these types of endurance events) and the dancing, prancing horses.
Other medal chances in the windsurfing and a couple of outside chances in the athletics stadium (high jump and discus).
Hopefully our track and field athletes can keep their nerves under control better than Bleasdale yesterday. Pity Dai Green couldn't go one place better, but he simply didn't have enough strength this time - couldn't fault his effort though, just beaten by guys who were better on the day.

Yeah I agree TopHat. Although both sides haven't been great, the fact Idowu has now failed shows he should have gone to the training camp. Clearly wasn't in the shape he needed to be in, or have the form

Re: Olympics Day 11
Well I think this morning will go down as Terrible Tuesday,
Hugely disappointing morning all in all and Van Commenee will be mightly unimpressed. Yourally have to question the selection policy given the inclusion of Sayers, Pozzi & Idowu....it was clear that none of them were anywhere approaching fit and whilst I understand the want to represent the country at a home games the simple fact of the matter that other people who were fit should have replaced them....im afraid their is no room for sentiment in Sport.
Idowu will rightly be criticised off the back of these games, their was a clear disregard for protocol leading into the games & regardless of whether he was a genuine..(although clearly he wasn't) medal hope, no athlete is above or should be given preferance over the team.
Obviously their are snippets of good to take from the track...we have a couple of people through to the 110m hurdle semi finals...and still a few events to go.
Whilst I am extremley pleased with the 3 golds (Ennis, Mo & Greg) that we have so far I hope that it does not gloss over what looks like being a pretty dissapointing performance once again on the track....too many athletes seem to have completely mistimed peaking...more large changes will occur again after the games in Athletics one feels!!

Re: Olympics Day 11
Goldie Sayers failed to qualify in the javelin as well. Injured elbow resulting in a trapped nerve, so she couldn't feel the release and so get a decent flight on the javelin. Pity, as her form this year would have put her in medal contention.
I suspect Idowu knew he was going to run out of time to recover from injury, but thought his best chance would be by staying in the UK with his coach and medical back-up rather than travelling to the training camp. I don't think either side really emerge with much credit from this dispute.
Lost one of our 110m hurdlers as well (pulled hamstring), but the other two are through to the next round.
Trott down to 2nd in the omnium after the pursuit, but only one point behind Sarah Hammer - it will still be decided by the scratch race performance, as you'd expect Trott to be slightly better in the 500m time trial.

Triathlon going well despite one of the Brownlee brothers being given a 15 second penalty, GB still well in contention for Medals.

19 golds!
Equalled Beijing, and we haven't even had the cycling medals of today.
We could have 22 golds by the end of the day!
We're on 42 medals as well.

And Bronze for his brother Jonny Brownlee.

Sorry Olly but that is just wrong : Idowu and Sayers could not have been replaced as there was no-one else with the qualifying standard..
You may question their judgement in competing , but that is their own affair as their inclusion hurt no-one. And gave the home fans someone to cheer , albeit not for as long as they had hoped.
And it is a little early to be claiming "disappointing on the track" ...maybe wait to the end of the programme ? Mo in the 5000 , 1500 women , sprint hurdlers already progressed from heats : and in case you didn't notice Bleasdale just set another PB qualifying , along with Jo Pavey , from the 5000 ...
This isn't cycling , you know - the whole world competes in athletics , and we can't expect to get results across the board.

We've got more competitors in sitting down events (heck, even the triathletes are on their arris's half the race), so of course team GB is picking up more medals.
Nick Dempsey's windsurfing medal is one of our few exceptions (along with Mo Farah) in that it's a competitor who is on their feet for the entire competion...

Re: Olympics Day 11
We've got realistic chances of a few more medals in the athletics - Farah is obviously the big hope for a further gold, but we could pick up some silver and bronzes from the likes of the women's middle distance runners (especially if the finals are tactical races), Okoye in the discus and Grabarz in the high jump, plus the women's 4 x 400 relay.
Men's 4 x 100 we probably haven't the pure speed, but there's always the chance of someone else (USA particularly) dropping the batten and opening up one of the medal slots (can't see anyone competing with them and Jamaica as the fastest two teams).
