Olympics Day 5
First topic message reminder :
Day 5 is just about to kick off with Spain and Australia in the men's hockey - the Aussies are called the Kookaburras.
I think today is the start of the gold rush, chances in rowing and most importantly.......
ALLEZ WIGGO! You're indestructible!

Is it ok to be seriously aroused by those ladies that won Gold in the rowing? They are sexy

Feel sorry for the poor Japanese guy, he did everything he could.
I'm also slightly worried as well. The scores, unlike previous Olympics, only get updated at the end of the round. There's not a rolling score system that you would see during the round which makes it less transparent and easier to fix.

Not a chance, Bronze medal should be the aim.
Brazil are nailed on for the Gold and we come across them if we make the semi-finals...
I would think it will be Brazil v Mexico final with a GB v Japan Bronze medal game.

I think bronze medal in either/both of the football would be good.

Duty, I feel you may be on the cusp being insanely optimistic again. GB have been alright not great, improving yes but they will not win the mens competition. Womens they have a good medal shot.

Re: Olympics Day 5
What a good day! Missed most of the golds live, as I got a late ticket for the Boxing, which was OK but quite difficult to follow for a non-Boxing fan as the scores don't get announced until the end of the round.
It must be said that Wiggins and the Rowing pair were always amongst the most nailed on British golds - it would have been a shock if they didn't win - but they need to be applauded for delivering
Also, well done to the men's eight, Chris Froome and Jamieson who all gave it there all for the lesser medals.
Additionally, we were a good parallel bars away from taking home an absolutely incredible silver in the Gymnastics. Sadly he messed up and only came 9th, but without the penalty would have been 2nd.

I'd say he has been lost for another 15 years. Cork have lost him for about 7 though.

I know, I think bronze would be an excellent achievement for the women's team and the men's team.

The Japanese are great. But it was quite an error-laden individual final for a lot of them, which gave our guys a real shout of silver or bronze if we'd not made mistakes ourselves. Our routines aren't the most difficult, so we struggle to do well if everyone else does well, but on the whole we executed superbly.

The boxing is looking dangerously close to being fixed. That Iranian chap was disqualified for bugger all against a Cuban, some Japan fighter knocked down his Azerbaijan opponent 5 times and still lost 22-17 although he has appealed. To cap it all, Azerbaijan's Teymur Mammadov also gets an iffy looking one against the Aussie fighter. It may all stem back to this:

Scrapping the whole thing would be unfair on the guys who are competing honestly like the Irish and GB guys.

It's always predominantly been the judges not the boxers that are the issue.

Re: Olympics Day 5
Im a boxing fan lads, a huge one at that....I really hope it doesn't but every single Olympics it is the sport most spoken about with regards to controversy etc.
Clearly it's no the fault of the boxers however unless the IOC find and apply a method of judging which works better....which they have always been reluctant to do then I fear they will end up with little choice but to replace it.
Tonight we have had 1 unnecessary DQ, one guy getting a walk due to the opponent failing the weigh in today as well as 1 very very poor decision & 1 pretty bad decision....thats not accounting for another 2 bad ones before today!!

Still ,you're getting way ahead of yourself Duty and I guarantee you GB won't win it. It's not like they have been blitzing teams or had an incredibly tough group. Senegal and UAE! Uruguay yes are a good site and they beat them well but you're being a bit too dramatic. Nice to see your pride in your country but think your way too optimistic.
