Olympics Day 10
Usain Bolt still is the World's Fastest Man. Murray has Olympic Gold. Big Ben rules the waves.

Realistic Chances for Team GB on Day 10:
Men's 400m Hurdles (Athletics)
Men's Sprint (Track Cycling)
Women's Uneven Bars (Gymnastics)
Men's Vault (Gymnastics)
Chances thin on the ground for tomorrow.

You've missed the Show Jumping (very good chance for the team, who are joint 2nd after Day 1 but are more experienced than leaders Saudi Arabia). Also, Dai Greene and Holly Bleasdale has a half chance in the Women's Pole Vault.

I saw Annalise earlier with friends and family. She looked relaxed. It will be a tough race. Against this quality of sailors any of the top four qualifiers deserves a medal of one colour and any could win.
I wished her luck on your behalf
Fingers crossed she gets a good start. Because once she's away there is no stopping her.

We should hopefully win the Men's Sprint, and Beth has a chance on the uneven bars

Re: Olympics Day 10
There aren't actually that many golds on offer tomorrow (a lot less than there have been over the weekend).
I reckon one gold and perhaps two or three other medals would be a good return.
I think Jason Kenny is going to win, he looks in awesome form.
Would love Holly Bleasdale to pull something out of the bag, love her.
Good luck to the Irish too.

Still half expecting Jess Ennis to say she's going to be a late entry in the women's high hurdles. She would be a serious medal candidate.

Re: Olympics Day 10
Off the top of my head.........
There are still plenty of medal prospects for GB at these Games. The boxers are progressing well, Chris Hoy goes in the Keirin tomorrow and Jason Kenny looks good for the men's sprint. Beth Tweddle could gold on the asymetric bars, Shanaze Reade is older and wiser after her experience in Beijing. There are still sailing medals to be decided. Hockey medals are still not out of the question
The show jumpers are handily placed for a medal, Keri-Anne Payne is a realistic medal prospect in the 10 km open water swim and there is the chance that Mo Farah might run in the 5000 metres and Jess Ennis has yet to decide if she will run in the women's high hurdles.
There may still be plenty to cheer yet at these Games.

I think that Dai Greene's battle will be for the minor medals rather than gold sadly. The best gold chances are Kenny (a nailed on one you would think), Tweddle (a good chance) and the Show Jumpers.

Yeah oz are certainly struggling billy. We've now got reports of Newstralia having four golds.
Its a bit annoying when every day much of our news is half dedicated rubbing in the fact that were ahead of ozzie, bringing out the per capita rankings etc.
Then the usual references to phar lap, crowded house etc..:-)
Frankly I can't wait till we win a medal by getting up off our a$%&rses. In 1984 we also won 8 golds ...also 'sitting down!
Horses, boats and now weve added bikes! Whoever said you'll never get to the olympics sitting on your a#$%&se all do sure was wrong. That's all we do!
Hopefully Nick Willis can emulate the great peter snell and john walker and run one in.
Valerie Adams will get at least silver but she's not there for that either.

Have you guys seen that NBC have not been showing the games live in America. Only showing highlights packages in primetime slots on there show. They didn't even show the 100m final live, and it happened during the middle of the day in the USA!!!!!! How lucky we are to have the BBC covering the Games so brilliantly

Yeah, a friend of mine went dragged himself off Miami Beach to see the 100m final live, only to find them showing the Beach Volleyball. Said it was a close second though. NBC always do that for the main sports. #nbcfail

Derval looked comfortable in here heat, a season best when it mattered against some very tough competitors. That's bottle for you.
Annalise can grab a medal today, she has been superb so far and there's no reason why she can't go on and grab one. She believes in herself and has the whole island (might be ab it over the top on that one) backing her. Katie well if she boxes like we know she can this will be routine.

Re: Olympics Day 10
This is actually where things get interesting because whilst obviously all the focus is on medalling these next few days will determine how our funding will be distributed when it comes to the Athletics...
Van Commenee is a clever man & will not allow the success so far outweigh his assessment of the overall picture.
He is expecting plenty of final's from our performers who are probably not in with a medal shout...as well as some PB's
So 3 females through to the semi-finals of the 1500m...think we can be pleased with that..we should have at least one get through to the final.
Poor performances in the 800m with Rimmer going out especially, he could be in trouble for further funding after that...Warburton also goes out so just 1 athlete through to the semi-finals...I don't think he will make the final. The 800m has been very poor for the men in recent years and a real change of guard is required here...
Men's discuss 1 of three make it through - Lawrence Okoye launching a big throw with his final attempt..that is probably on par with what was expected. The 20 yr old showing nerves of steel and if he can nail one in the final he is in with a shout...
So mixed day overall from this mornings session...
With Gemili (football) and Okoye (ex Rugby) doing so well I fully expect the UK Athletics to really start looking at those on the fringes of other sports in the future...one would hope so anyhow because it is a proven method in recent times of creating success in Athletics.

I think this is something which more sports, particularly physical sports, need to look at. You feel that there must be a large number of athletic teenagers who have never received proper athletics coaching or taken part in formal competition. This is because sadly most athletic teenagers are diverted to football, where so few are able to make a successful career.

Re: Olympics Day 10
The 1500 metre girls were all quite impressive ...good first steps. Dobby especially looked confident , albeit in a slowly run heat. Semis will be interesting.
Okoye pulled out a good big throw when he had to ! Hope he can nail one in the final now...
And I would not dismiss Osagie's chance of making the final at 800. Of course it will be incredibly hard to do so , but we knew that before the Games started , and I think he ran a decent race to qualify today - and significantly he wasn't totally happy with it anyway.Think he has more to give , and if he draws the right semi , who knows ? Rimmer has not been in good form this season so I did not expect him to advance , and I think Warburton's battle was to get here in the first place.
Porter was OK in the first round of hurdles. Seems to have recovered from whatever problem she had at Crystal Palace.

I don't think Kenny is nailed on for the Sprint to be honest, I am not convinced he is even favourite! I think Bauge will win it, beating Kenny into Silver.

Well both Kenny and Bauge have been very impressive so far , we know they both have plenty of speed...
Will come down to tactics in the final , I think it is about 50/50 , but given the way the GB squad has been going I just fancy Kenny to edge it. He will certainly feel obliged to win to justify being preferred to Sir Chris for the spot

Nah the velodrome support will give Kenny the boost to win. You might think that it shouldn't help professional athletes that much at this level but this Olympics and plenty of studies on home results in football etc show that it really does

Re: Olympics Day 10
JD / CJ
Kenny has looked far more impressive than Bauge every time they've ridden this week. Indeed, I'd go as far as to say that the only way Kenny will lose is if he gets drawn into a tactical race - he'd do better to just lead out and rely on his superior speed to hold on. It's the prime Chris Hoy tactic, in that when you are markedly faster than your opponent, you just ride your own race.
OK, track sprinting is never a gimme, but Kenny certainly should be the strong favourite. He's also got the easier semi-final, so hopefully will be fresher for the final.

Agreed Dummy...
If he sticks to his own race he wins and does so comfortably. It is a well know fact the Bauge hasn't got the legs if someone leads out from afar and I actually think the selectors have thought about that when picking Kenny. He has the stamina to go for it a fair bit further out than Hoy would and I expect that is the way Kenny will ride it..
