Man Utd thread
First topic message reminder :
There are a few Utd fans like myself on the board but like the LFC one set up, everyone are welcome to discuss Utd's results and news etc..
Playing Barca tomorrow night, only a pre-season game but would like to see Kagwa given a run out tomorrow night see what he's got against the best.

Yeah, Spain is fully prepared for its football to go to hell as long as Real and Barca are competitive

There are very few proper teams left and most of the elite are actually English; Liverpool, United and Arsenal all spend within their means as do Bayern and Dortmund. Outside of that it's just different levels of corruption or foreign investment going against the whole ethics of the sport.

What do United fans think will happen to Zaha? Shipped out on loan to Cardiff but has predictably, failed to make much impact.
You guys want him back next season or will loan him out again?

Re: Man Utd thread
Nobody will touch him permanently, not after a £15m fee. Loan him out again most certainly. Moyes has already shown his dislike for the lad. Ince & Zaha....pure stagnation.
As for Rooney, is that 'out for season' confirmed? If he makes the WC with limited game time behind him, it could be difficult to watch. Roy must be sweating.....

he'll do his usual trick at world cups, goes purely on reputation but isnt fit and then is awful throughout the tournament.
wouldn't be surprised if its zaha who been leaking the team sheet seeing though his ties to palace. he can rot in reserves for all i care untill he screws his head on, or he can go out on loan and learn he's not as good as he thinks he is

Never really got the zaha signing, didn't think he stood out consistently at championship level.
Obviously fergie saw something in him and moyes doesn't or doesn't think it's worth the baggage.

Never seen these superstar attributes.
Young and raw I'd agree but he had 80 odd championship starts when we signed him and had over 100 when joining.
Not like he was a 17/18 year old.
Can't see it in him.

Pace, power etc, he has the lot. Needed coaching up.

Yeah but he took a punt on Nani, Anderson, Bebe etc too - and 2 of them had played in the cl and top divisions.
Wouldn't agree he has the lot, bit of pace is about it. Poor delivery and shooting from what I've seen. Plus stinking attitude, the cardiff fans seem fed up with him already.

A very talented youngster should massively stand out in a poor cardiff team. Zaha hasnt stood out at all, hes getting out performed by the likes of mutch!

And tbh an athletic talent should tear up the championship as athleticism is what stops a lot of players at that level being PL players.
Don't mind taking a punt on him but at £15 million it seems like a waste of money - which I think we have wasted a lot of in recent years.

Hearing reports we've tabled a 33m bid for reus this week with the deal getting towards the closing stages.
Believe it when I see it but he would be an unbelievable signing! Would surely entice Kroos to join although I feel he's holding out for Bayern to raise his salary, using utd's interest as bait.

Re: Man Utd thread
Do we really need Reus?
He seems a bit too similar to Kagawa and Mata, he's not exactly the central midfielder we need unless Moyes is planning a completely different tactical strategy.

Re: Man Utd thread
We seem to be heavily linked with almost every German midfielder, Kroos, Gundogan and Reus while an impossibility would make the most ridiculous front six. I think we'll get one of them but Reus would be at the bottom of my list.

Re: Man Utd thread
Reus gives us a world class winger, would be a great signing and something i think we need as Young and Valencia (despite his good performance vs bayern) are too one dimensional and januzaj only just on the seen. I agree, cm is the priority but it seems we're close to carvahlo and kroos although i still can't see kroos doing anything other than signing a new contract. If we can't get him we should go for Rakitic as i've said before.

Re: Man Utd thread
So far expected targets would list at: Reus, Kroos, Carvalho, Koke, Shaw, Lallana, Garay. I expect Moyes will stay and will be looking to spend £100m, maybe more.
Reus has got to be around £30-40m?
Kroos £30-40m?
Carvalho £20-30m?
Koke seems a no-go but would be similar to Carvalho or more.
Shaw sounds like hes fetching £20-35m?
Lallana can only be £15-20m? Maybe £25m if desperate?
Garay around the same as Lallana or Carvalho?
I don't think you will be able to or would want to sign all seven. But with those figures being bandied about and those clearly not the list of all targets, £100m seems like its a definite spend.

Re: Man Utd thread
Reus would be the costly one and I reckon £40m for him
Kroos with one year left on his contract would be cheaper but I expect Liverpool to also go in and perhaps others if it does become apparent he's wanting to leave rather than get a better contract. £25m for him.
Shaw I think will be £25m tops.
Garay I can't see being a huge price, £15m max.

Tbh, i'd be more than happy with Coentrao. He'd be cheaper, gives just as much as Shaw going forward and has champions league pedigree, whilst also being just 26 and would cost maybe just over 10m

Can't see him going, I'm just worried about another Cesc type situation where we just waste time.
I know nothing of Carvalho, but if he is as good as everyone says I would rather secure him then go for Kroos than the other way round and risk him signing elsewhere

You think they'll buy no one?
I imagine United will pay what it takes, but I imagine a lot of clubs will sniff at Kroos too. I think its 30/70. Carvalho seems a buy whether Kroos comes or not.

Re: Man Utd thread
I think they'll try like last Summer and get knocked back.
I'd be amazed if kroos leaves as he doesn't want to and Guardiola wants to keep him, just wants more money and to play every game. They'll sort it out.
Might get a left back and some unknown in midfield to play instead of fellaini but I can't see many of the other links coming through.
Perhaps garay but we've been linked to him since before he joined Madrid - can't see it.

Reus I reckon is a possibility tbh. He's got a buyout clause of £29.5m but that doesn't come into effect unto 2015. Do Dortmund want to risk Bayern doing another Gotze when Utd could offer £40m now only 6 months earlier?

Re: Man Utd thread
Shaw is going to move, it just depends on if Chelsea or City go in for him, if so they move ahead of Utd especially Chelsea as he's a fan.
Coentrao would be an easier choice certainly.
There's def going to a CB purchased and there is limited choice out there, personally I'd be going for Benetia of Roma over Garay.
Kroos is probably doing it for a better contract but as long as Utd don't do a Fabregas and throw all their eggs on a basket to chase him and keep options open for other stars then I'd certainly want them to throw the kitchen sink at him to acquire his services.

Utd are still a huge attraction despite the tumble, there's very few clubs still that can chuck £40m and wages over £200k wages at players, I can't see many clubs also going for Reus tbh, Barca were keen but can't buy currently. Chelsea and City are both covered there. Real as well. Only really the French pair that have the cash to get him.

PSG would be players if/when Cavani is offloaded, can't imagine Dortmund will be keen to let another player go after Kagawa/Gotze/Lewandowski either tbh.

I don't know if we are.
We've never really attracted top European players, mainly British ones.
Now we aren't successful and Chelsea and city can pay more than us. Arsenal based in London.
Think we will have to be then only one in for a player to get them.

No I'm sure they won't be keen but as I said there's a £30m release clause that comes into effect in January so it's either sell now or risk another guy going to their main rivals.

The loss of CL football will certainly put off some and there may well be clauses of if they don't get CL in the season after they can look elsewhere but Utd can match on price and wages. They also are still up there with the two Spanish giants as one of the top three global brands, a player can make a lot more money at Utd than they can elsewhere.

Re: Man Utd thread
Strootman was a stupid miss for me. He was there at a bargain price, a great young genuine box-to-box midfielder which is what we've lacked for years. He waited and waited for us to come in for him and eventually got bored of waiting and went to Roma, was arguably their best player for most of the season until his injury!

Re: Man Utd thread
I really think Moyes needs to be sacked, because as I have said, the manager himself can attract players because they want to play under him. Reus basically took a swipe at Moyes' style of play after beating Bayern 3-0, which says everything you need to know about his feelings of playing under Moyes. At least if we brought Van Gaal (Prefer Klopp) in his name may sway big players to come regardless of no CL football?
